...when I figured out I just spent 200$ on a new video card that lasted for 6 months.
uhh, i had an ati x800 for 4 years, and it played all my games fine. If you care that much about graphics in a game, then i guess its your loss.
I dont mind playing UT3 on high and getting 20fps lol

I have a dream! That PCs and Consoles shall realize that they are equal.
Not gonna happen as long as consoles are targeted at "simple" people mainly and aren't upgradeable nor customizable... they can keep up with a PC for maybe the first year of their lifespan, after that it's only downhill from there.

If it were not for Consoles, PC gaming would never have survived and give way for random flash games.
It could've and it would've... probably the other way around even, PC gaming being stronger than ever, because it is the only platform that supports it.
Computers started gaming 1947/1951 and became an arcade thing till the late 70s, where home computers and consoles alike got cheap enough for people to buy and invest in.
Hey, i can dream can't I? You people are supposed to be supportive and help me realize this goal, not shun it and be little gremlins.

And if home consoles weren't invented, then gaming would probably seize to exist and the PC would be used for business only (of course that's my opinion)

Really, this has gone on long enough. What's happened to all of you guys? Before everyone was happy, going on, playing their games with satisfaction and now all of you PC/Console-tards (mainly PC-tards, just sayin') are raving about, going crazy, and being complete ignorant bastards.

PC gaming isn't dieing, it will never die unless home consoles die and games die completely, and until Bill Gates rules the world and makes us play (in Yahtzee's words) "Captain Bland's: Monotonous adventure"

What's going on guys?

It's obvious from the start that those who gravitate toward consoles are part the crowd who like to pop in games and just have them work, nice and simple. This is what all the PS3 users are practically shouting whenever a game requires an installation. On the other hand there are the PC users who prefer to have complete knowledge and control over their system and it's contents, and will sacrifice some convenience for much greater functionality. This has already been stated in a few of the jumbled posts on this thread.

This is not an issue that will be solved on an internet message board and will likely continue until games are phased out completely or selection is whittled down to one choice (which is no choice at all). For now lets just be happy that we have got so many ways to play and just go our own ways.

Also, am I the only person here suspicious that a brand new user's first post ever is used to start a topic which is obviously flame-bait?

PC game devs tend to approach this from the wrong side.

Why bother making your game unplayable by most people to squeeze out a few more polygons? Go for the 5 year old PC market.

A high-end PC is more expensive than a console? A low-end PC isn't, because everyone already has one anyway.
A gaming PC requires a lot of computer skill to build? If you focus on low-end PCs, everyone can run your game.
A high-end PC is only marginally better graphically than a console? Try atmosphere and style and shader 2.0 instead of polygons, 10M people playing WoW proves that most people actually don't care much about graphical detail.

Blizzard is the only company that is doing this. It seems everyone else is aiming for the $2K-PC-crowd and suffering because of it (Crysis, Age of Conan).

And your audience will be everyone with a halfway useful PC, which includes FAR more people than those with a recent console (and the right console too).

Why not?!?
(Answer: it's harder to develop games for PC, the PC crowd is more discerning, we can't sell DLC so easily and we're lazy, lulz. PC gaming isn't dying because it is lacking something, but because the game industry is trying to kill it)

I have a dream! That PCs and Consoles shall realize that they are equal.
I have a dream! That PCs and Consoles shall be one and crush the real enemy; The Media!

Please, learn from your mistakes and act as one!

Now where's the mod to lock this damned thread?
True, I bow down to your logic.

But it's never going to happen. It's not the PC/Console War, it's the PC/Console FANBOY war.

Fanboys always start these sorts of flame wars, and while there is still a game/console that can be praised to extinction, they will not go away.

Nice thinking though.

It's kind of funny, considering that speech came from a console exclusive player :p I was about the buy Bioshock for the PC but when i heard about the PS3 coding i decided to wait a bit, forgot all about it, and look at what waiting's done :D

...You know, we shouldn't even be comparing consoles and PC. They're fundamentally different in several ways that just prevent it. PCs have a more versatile control scheme due to the zillions of button combinations on your keyboard; remember the shock and horror at the thought that Starcraft was rumored to be traveling to, what was it, the N64? That never could have worked. Mice are faster than console joysticks; keyboards have hotkeys. This, I think, is one of the main differences that separate the games:

Consoles have Japanese and a few Western RPGs(though this is also due to most console makers being Japanese and JRPGs being many times movies with some interspersed gameplay), many racing games, platformers (you don't need PC power for platformers, and most of the super-popular are Japanese in origin), your less-complex-than-Oblivion adventures like Zelda, and fighting games (which are far easier and more fun when you can just plunk four people on a couch rather than use the internet to link everyone far from each other).

The PC market seems to be mainly in huge/complex and/or interactive adventure games (Oblivion for the former, your stack of MMO's for the latter), Western RPGs (one factor being because they're more control-scheme complicated than JRPGs and require more versatility in the hardware), strategy games (because you just can't do that well with a controller, and FF Tactics/Disgaea don't count), simulation games, and the ilk of all the above.

Anywho, that's my $.02. I'm sure I left out some genres, but I don't know about all of them -- I'm mainly an RPG or action/adventure player. But the point is, if you go for the PC-style games, you go invest in a good computer and have at. If you're one of the old Zelda/Mario platformer types, you go get a Wii, or you sink in for a PS2/PS3 for all your JRPG needs, and there you have it. These days, the lines are actually pretty well-defined, and when they aren't, usually the game has been released for more than one system (even cross PC/console).
very true, that's the core of the argument for me. What games/genres are actually playable for the system. I don't care about PC's customizability or console's ease-of-use. I just want to play the games I like! (something pc-fanboys always forget. So what the pc is a better system if I can't play the games I want on it?)

yep lots of the fanboys on here, they argue as if pc gaming is dead when the topic is pc gaming is dying... You can't argue that there are games coming lol - you need to argue that the games that have been released to this date have been better than before or else the verdict will obviously be in favour of the topic title.

On a more angry note I wish console users would stop commenting on pc related subjects. Like before when the playstation 2 kept them all busy without having internet access or knowing how to operate a pc for that matter. It makes it so much worse having lots of kids spamming the internet because they have the ability sitting in their tv room on their consoles.

Obviously they dont have any things to play or else they wouldn't have bothered spending hours and hours online bitching about which is better. I remember playing games back when on PC using a 56K modem, when I was so addicted that I couldn't give a flying fuck who said what about anything..

I couldn't even tear myself away for a simple hour even to go and eat my food. hehehe some games were just too addictive you had to write them off from your life. Good thing its still being played so that its not totally lost amoungst the gaming community, and a select few still enjoy it today.

Smack your head against a brick wall enough times and you will make yourself believe anything. Having smacked my head repeatedly against a wall rendering my frontal lobes inoperable I can declare that Halo is the bestest game ever in the whole wide world ever and PC Gaming is dying. Xbox live lobotomies for all!

I've had nothing to do this afternoon (well, it's this or English work...), so I read the 6 pages of this thread...

Yeh, mods, lock this already... there's nothing new here.

Simple answer: No

PC gaming will never die when you have mods for games such as HL2, the various Battlefield games, etc. I don't know this for sure, but I am quite sure there are almost no (maybe none?) mods for consoles. PC gaming will not die, ever.

Case closed.
