Nothing to see here people, Move along now.
I also agree with this statement but the topic intrigued me none the less.

So while I'm here, to some degree I do feel quite tired of taking a risk every time I buy a PC game. There's always the chance you get that title that quote "JUST DOESN'T FUCKING WORK." (GTA IV and Saints Row 2 Come to mind.)

But I digress. PC gaming is the heart of gaming as a whole. As fucked up as it can be, it's the medium that keeps the industry moving forward and our technology getting better. If we depended souly on consoles for our entertainment, we'd probably be playing playstation 2 quality titles on somthing as collosal as an Xbox 360.

So don't ***** if the market turns for the worst because PC games don't sell like hotcakes. What keeps PC gaming alive is its community, and as long as were around, PC gaming isn't going anywhere.

PC gaming has been successfully dying since 1987. Nothing new to see here, folks - now please, stop feeding the trolls.

You know those people you see on the streets, metros, parks preaching about causes that no one really cares about because the person preaching is nuts. BINGO.

I declare this a FAILPOST in every way. Fix the grammar, give space for discussion, and write about something true. Then we'll talk.

The fact that it takes so much money to constantly upgrade your PC just turns people off. I would LOVE to play so many of the amazing games on PC, but it's just too much money. console gaming is way more cost effective for most people.
The fact is you do not have to constantly upgrade your PC that is just a lie most people just think that you have upgrade your computer every 3 months you do not. On a PC you can just the lower settings. Computers will last 3+ years and still play new games.
My last computer lasted 5 years and only need a a new graphics card when the old one broke and it was very simple to replace (Uninstall the old graphics card drivers and replace the old graphics card with the new one and install the new graphics card drivers and $90 and half an hour late the computer was back up and running) one upgrade in 5 years and only because the graphics card died.

And you people saying PC gaming is dying NO NORTH AMERICAN RETAIL sale of PC games is dying what about 2008 all the games came out on the consoles and not PC and then 6-12 months later they got ports like magic and now almost all of the new games coming out have a PC port i think they did not get as much money as they thought they would get for a console only release.

what a giant nerdgasm. Shut up about pc gaming it had better graphics, controls, and flexibility. Consoles are awesome for a simple yet fun pick up and play experience.

The last time I heard someone actually mention to me in real life that PC gaming was dying and I should get a console, World of Warcraft came out. Lemme tell ya, I've been sitting happily in a rollie chair my whole life playing video games, I doubt it's going to change any time soon.

developers sure are abandoning it in droves. The increasing complexity of graphics cards and processers is making PC game development a living hell that very few developers are willing to deal with. Ask any PC developer and they'll tell you: making PC games these days is about as fun as drinking gasoline.
The increasing complexity of graphics cards and processors are the reason consoles like XBox and Playstation exist in the first place o_O
It'd be easier for developers to go with the flow instead of staying on their lazy ass for 5-7 years till the new console generation comes around and having to relearn coding with new tools and features from the ground up.

You just wait till major Hardware companies selling graphics cards and CPUs get their heads out of their asses realizing that their profit will further decline and it'll come out with a bang again, Intel making a start in 2010/2011 with "Project Offset".
Major hardware companies selling graphics cards and CPU's are not seeing a "decline in profit" hahahahaha where did you get that? If anything the fact that they are rolling around in giant piles of money while PC game sales are uniformly lackluster is just another sign of widespread PC piracy. Also I love the "you cant prove exact numbers so PC game piracy isn't really a problem" argument.(not that you brought it up but I've seen it in this thread a few times.) Really I'll say it again and then be done with the thread: I'm a console gamer because there are just too many incredible games to pass on that PC gamers will never get to play(unless you count emulated games from the playstation era going backwards and then I'm sorry but I've already played all those games 10 - 20 years ago, glad you could join us in the land of awesome.) Sure there are a lot of great MMO's and RTS games I'm missing out on but that's ok because I hate those games anyway. I love fighting games, I love platform hack and slash games like god of war, I love my mario's, my zeldas, I freaking LOVE my Jrpgs. I love my metal gears and my quirky, downloadable PSN games like fat princess, calling all cars, noby noby boy, etc. There's just no way I could ever reconcile my taste in games with the limited offerings of the PC market. Honestly I feel that the golden age of PC gaming is long past. I'll keep my laptop around for those odd days when I want to boot up Planescape or Dwarf fortress, but in every other respect I feel there's just to much to miss out on by not owning a console.

I think it's dying because it's the most complicated. People don't want to have to figure out the system specs or whatever BUT IT'S SO FUCKING WORTH IT.
Complicated? maybe you are just dumb, ever thought of that? Also i dont see Valve having any problems with that.Another typical consoletard lol
What the fuck? I'm not "dumb". From the viewpoint of a typical video game consumer, having to buy a computer with the right graphics card and all that is far more complicated than buying an xbox 360, and a couple controllers. I've had massive problems with all computers, and that's fine since you can't expect everyone to be so tech savy.
With PC, different games require different settings and computers to run.
With a console, you just buy the console, controllers, and maybe an internet cable.

Consoles are cheaper for more processing power, graphics whatever because they are specialized.
You are a massive retard, the only time making a computer is expensive is when you literally get a new one instead of upgrading. If you don't, all that ever really needs changing is the graphics card, RAM and processor, maybe the PSU if neccesary but that's cheap, especially since it'll last you through to the next age of consoles unless you yourself break it. A PC is not specialised but it does these things far far better than the things that do.
PC's will always have more junk available. PC's might be losing use, because they need to be exterminated.
Oyer, destroy an industry that is actually larger than the consoles are, smart you are. PC's aren't losing use at all.

PC games might die out,
Not for at least 10 more generations of consoles.
but they will get replaced when cloud computing becomes common, in fact cloud computing will probably kill all consoles. Hmmmm...Topic idea!
What?
^Hey I heard about something magical, if you do not know what something is a magical online website can find everything about it for you, and all you have to do is copy and paste the words in it!

Either I am severely misinformed or you are. I know a top grade computer costs thousands of dollars, so unless you have a special electronics black market then you are wrong. A Xbox 360 costs 250 dollars, a very low price compared to completely updating your computer. Every Xbox 360 can play every Xbox 360 game with high graphic levels(BY COST RATIO). Of course high end mega computers can kill every gaming console but they cost too much for everyday people.

If you consider the fact that almost everyone owns a basic PC, the cost of upgrading that PC to be able to play modern games is probably about the same cost as buying a console, so your "cheaper" argument is pretty much false (especially if you factor in the game costs).

The trend is moving towards having one machine that does everything... (see Phones).

So if anything becomes "obsolete" it will be consoles.... Why have one machine that does just gaming?

Cloud computing will kill PC gaming? Um.... ok...... ? I'm not even sure how to respond to that... because I'm not entirely sure that you aren't just throwing around buzzwords... Edit: Ah, here I think CheeseSandwichCake worded it nicely:

Now if you'll excuse me, I think I will go play some Torchlight. Hey, that happens to be PC exclusive.... Must mean consoles are dying. /sarcasm
Phones are becoming advanced because they are extremely mobile and people want more stuff on them. People are not making them better just to have the one magic go-to for everything electronic. And again, I am apparently the only one cut off from this magical incredibly cheap computer upgrades store?

There is already a rise in popularity of the HTPC, how soon before living room computers are also gaming machines?

Do you live in the United States/Canada? Have you visited Newegg?

$300 can make the difference between a slow workstation and a gaming rig.

PC gaming is slowly but efficiently dying. EVERY game sold on the PS3, Xbox 360, and the PC the PC always sells the least amount of copies. And lets be serious the only reason people have PCs are for info, news, World of Warcraft (Which I despise), The Escapist, buying stuff, and itunes. Besides those few things PC gaming is dying. The only people that enjoy are the crazed fanboys that every once in a while try to hump the disc drive. I admit I'll go back and play Half-life 2 every once in a while because I'm trying to pass the time til the next great console game comes out. Pcs were good for games then that went away, then they were good at customization in games and that went away, and now they're good only for porn.
*ahem*
