if you get a PC I hope you know someone who seems like he knows how they work. there are plenty of easily preventable, painful problems on the PC

Use your console... you already have it.
Not all games are good representatives of "games as an art", don't fool yourself.

If you can, get a decent gaming rig. You seem to not know what games you exactly like, and the PC has the widest library, with the exception of commercial fighting games.(But Mugen,a fighter where you can make any character you want and the whole game is moddable, is arguably the best fighter you can get)

Judging from what you have said, try out some RPGs, like Fallout 3, Oblivion, Balder's Gate and so forth. Try some strategy games like Company of Heroes and some Turnbased games like Civ 4 to see if you like those genres, since you have most likely never played any games like that if you just have played on an Xbox.

But I haven't played through Halo 3 or Call of Duty 4 single player, so I can't say anything about them.

Consoles are for your simple plug in and play kind of gaming.

If you want to experience that little bit more PC gaming is the way to go. Much much larger mod communities, larger homebrew communities, and free online which offers more options than that of a console's online service.

It really depends what sort of games you like best. IMO FPS is better on PC, racing sims better on console, RTS on PC etc. You can do more on a PC, with a console you know your game will run well whereas you need a decent PC to run new games, PC has better graphics if your specs are good enough

Personally i like my PC better cos of the more personal feel it has from building it myself and having it set up just the way i like it. Kinda like its unique to me. Not to mention the great feeling being able to make sure every single part i bought was better than any my mates have. The feeling I get from telling my friend that I was thinking of getting the same speaker system as him but decided on one model above just cos it would be better than his is indescribable

Yeah it is and theres Halo Wars and Red Alert for the Strategy people. Just because its on the machine and played with a controller doesnt mean its any good or works. FFXI on 360 i hear is quite terrible

Depends what type of games your interested in. PC ports of games are getting worse and worse imo and my video cards pretty much dead at the moment. I dont think ill upgrade.

Mods, only fallout3 and WoW come to mind with mods that you need.

Basically the 360 has all the stuff PC has apart from strategy and MMORPGs. Better controls depends on a game. Racing games are terrible on a keyboard.

Since you dont know much about computers/gaming stick with the 360 you wont have any issues. PC games ive found are gettign very fiddly since developers dont really care about them.
Is funny coz almost all ps3 games and 360 are also in PC, so if games are getting fiddly, console and PC will be affected.

For racing games u can buy a 360 controller and put it in ur PC, or a ps3 controller or my frined has even its wii remote on his pc with the sensor things.

Graphic cards are cheaper now, the best around $200, and ram only $100 for 4GB. console will quickly get old and buying a new console is gonna take money and time, plus online play for 360 requires u to pay

What I mean by fiddly is changing settings just to get them playable, GTA4 and Saints Row a heap of people struggle to get a few FPS if they dont have specific requirements. DRM on some games is a bit troublesome for a few people. I tried to install oblivion a few weeks back and it was telling me my copy of the game isnt legit. I could go on and on about how poor PC ports are becoming.

Im assuming your working in US dollars isnt a 360 elite and PS3 slim $300 US? (correct me if im wrong) compared to a whole PC thats not bad considering it will be current for another 5-10 years. Dont argue that PCs are cheap you can never win that argument.

Im not saying the PC experience isnt the best, but its not what it used to be I can say that.

Both, why pick one? Now I won't buy a dedicated gaming PC again, but since I work on a comp, and upgrade every few years anyway there is no reason not to bump my processor, memory, and video card for a couple of hundred bucks over the vanilla model.

Unfortunately programmers are getting lazier as the hardware gets better, so you are less likely to see new games that run well on older PCs.

But at the same time a game like Fallout 3 wouldn't be nearly as good on a console because mods are what make the game. Even something simple like the Atomic Postal Service greatly increases immersion.

However playing something like Mario Galaxy wouldn't be nearly as much fun with a keyboard and mouse.

I think both have a place and you shouldn't think in terms of either/or but instead on what each platform offers you.

I'm trying to really get into the game universe, try new games, and really try to see games as a "art". So I was wondering, what should I do? It looks like the PC is the best platform for games, but I already have a 360. Should I sell my 360 and buy a computer, or should I keep the xbox? And please, no flame wars.
Don't sell your console, trust me, I sold my all of my consoles at one point, bad mistake. Try to own as many gaming platforms as you can. I believe PC is the best myself, but the other platforms have some good games on them as well.
