Was just listening to a bit of Christmas music and one of the lines in a song was ;'they said there'd be peace on Earth' and I though 'pfft, good luck with that' because I don't think peace on Earth is possible.

SO, what do you think would be necessary to make peace on Earth? Ban weapons? Illegalise religion? Or would the only way to make peace on Earth be to get rid of mankind entirely?

Destroy the EARTH!!!
It's the only true way.

Seriously have you ever seen a wild animal, they be all manner of crazy.
Let alone humans.
I wouldn't want peace on Earth anyway, it'd make life to boring.

Homogenisation to the point where one individual is entirely indistinguishable from another, even to ourselves.

In other words, turn ourselves into The Borg.

That'd about do it.

Basically what Code Geass or Watchmen did.
There must be a common enemy for there to be friendship between enemies, someone has to become a tyrant that everyone hates, that everyone despises. This way there's no room in their minds for people to hate each other, just hate for that one individual.

It'll be one hell of a sacrifice for peace, and it won't even last forever, just until that person dies. I doubt anyone will do it though, imagine eternal segregation, bullying and hate from everyone on the planet.

Yeah... pretty much... that's the more 'immediate' solution... turning mankind into a hivemind. Conflict usually comes about due to an overinflated sense of value on individuality (whether that in and of itself is a beneficial thing, I can't say... the latter bit that is, not the conflict). Remove the individuality from humanity and world peace may be possible.

However, the alternative is: declare war on powerful alien race. Nothing unites people who hate each other like a common enemy. Well, good luck finding one... -_-

Maybe if we weren't so dang cynical and misanthropic, we'd be taking a step in the right direction. Even asking the question "Should we just off everyone?" is one of the reasons we cannot have nice things.

Obligatory hugging sessions presided over by men with sticks, hug out the anger.... or get hit by a stick. Maybe not my best suggestion in hindsight

Maybe the discovery of some way of faster-than-light travel. Humanity will be able to explore new worlds, which may give us a reason to stop fighting each other and unite. Or maybe just let people put a billion lightyears between them and those guys they don't like, which is also a pretty good way to stop people from fighting each other. There just won't be any reasons for war, with all the unoccupied space, resources and new possibilities.

How to make peace on Earth...colonize another planet and live there and say "I'll come back once Earth decides to be mature."

So you were listening to Greg Lake's I Believe in Father Christmas

A song that describes a childs christmas as sold to him by grown up's, grown up's who are responsible for all the lies and destruction in the world.

A child can look upon the world with innocent eyes and see the hope of peace on earth, but when that child grows up they only see what they can get from that earth.

As Mr Lake say's at 2:29, "The Christmas We Get We Deserve"
As a collective, so far man has not achieve "Peace on Earth" for we do not deserve it. When we have truly learned what peace means we will achieve it.

(Enough of the serious Putowtin, I wish Light, Love and Peace to you all!)

All must embrace the ponies!

Really though, I doubt the species of man will ever be able to get along in true everlasting piece. It's just engrained in us to hate or dislike those that are different (I say this in a general term for large groups).

Maybe generations of fighting aliens would do it. That'd be about it. (Now thats not exactly peace on earth, should the earth be in the fighting itself, but we humans would all be getting along really well).

The last century has been amazing for reducing violence and increasing individual freedom across the globe, as was the century before that. The last few decades have done even greater things. When you look at the world in the short time that you have been alive it is easy to see the negative but we are awesomely better off than we used to be as a race. I only see things getting better as the world becomes more and more educated and more and more self aware. Truth, logic and reason always win out, even if it take centuries to do so.

While it'd probably be impossible for world peace to actually happen... at least people are trying...

Well, first check how many people live on Earth. Then, execute people one by one, until the number of people living on Earth is "one".

There, peace on Earth.

Then we are in agreement. Meet me at the U.N HQ in an hour. I'll brig the sticks, you bring the hugs. Give me an hour and we'll see if we can't make North and South Korea 'sort our their differences' (laughs evilly)

Simple.

Old ideas must die, enlightenment must spread and people must be tolerated. And if you disagree you must be hanged.

Actually any of these three contains the other two within so one would be enough.

It is a bit of a pipe dream to want peace on Earth. The idea that everyone will suddenly drop all their weapons and hold hands is pretty stupid.

However, there is a very good way to ensure peace between countries - money. If it's more profitable to be friends with another nation than to be at war with them, then both parties have a perfectly good reason to remain neutral against each other.

England and France for example are legendary enemies, historically speaking. However, once trade routes opened between us suddenly we felt less inclined to risk cutting off that reliable flow of currency. In short, trade routes and mutual prosperity is pretty much the best way to reach that almost impossible goal.
