Well as long as the tissue isn't degraded, and subjects don't suffer the loss of higher cognitive functions and become rabidly violent, I think it's safe to say THIS isn't going to cause the Zombie Apocalypse.

My money is still on a Flu mutation. :)

You know, in order to be a zombie, doesn't it technically have to be brain-dead or something?
Oh well, I don't really care as long as no one starts craving human flesh because of this stuff.

Problem.

After oxygen cut-off to the brain for extended periods, you turn vegetable.

I hope they veto this disgusting "suspended animation" solution.
My understanding is that the heart-rate is slowed, not stopped. So oxygen could still be making to the brain. Besides, do you really think they'd move forward if they didn't think it would work? What use is a brain-dead soldier to anyone?

Wow, this is actually pretty cool, it makes sense too, it's just a matter of putting it in to play. Who knows how long it will be before we actually see this being used.

Dear god, we're screwed.

Realistically though, that's useful. But freakin' terrifying if you think about it.

Now, if this happens to give humans side effects such as an incredible fever that causes violence and madness and is transmitted via bodily fluids we'd have something to worry about.

Don't forget, hospitals are bringing people back to life within minutes of "death" on a regular basis now. I foresee many of the same people who oppose stem cell research crying "it's not natural!" however.
I don't see the parallel between the destruction of potential life and a serum which can be used to save lives.

Unless you were just lashing out at fundamentalists in general. In which case, may I congratulate you on choosing a website where everyone will agree with your opinion.
Yes, fundamentalists. Like the ones who oppose stem cell research. Stem cell research is that parallel that you do not see. Stem cells will very likely cure some of the nastier varieties of cancer in the coming decades, though some would argue at the cost of this "destruction of potential life." Of course, if I'm smart and I wear a rubber, the same argument could be made for my actions (I'm contributing more to art than science here, though).
The difference is that Stem Cell research involves making a sacrifice (whether you perceive it as a human sacrifice or not) in the name of saving existing humans. This zombie serum doesn't seem to involve anything like that. At least, not any more than any other medicine which is tested on animals.

It's really not a perfect comparison, which again leads me to believe this is more ranting than anything else. Especially since the implication that all fundamentalists are vehemently opposed to stem cell research in and of itself is somewhat fallacious. People can't be pigeonholed quite so easily.

I just hope we don't end up with a real example of the Battle of Yonkers in a few years time....

Main course of death in battle? I'd still say bullet wounds, shrapnel and your general flying pieces of metal... cuz you know... blood loss just doesn't happen on it's own
