Interesting. It would seem Zombie serum will be used to SAVE brains.

DARPA sounds vaguely Umbrella-like, though.

Don't forget, hospitals are bringing people back to life within minutes of "death" on a regular basis now. I foresee many of the same people who oppose stem cell research crying "it's not natural!" however.
I don't see the parallel between the destruction of potential life and a serum which can be used to save lives.

Unless you were just lashing out at fundamentalists in general. In which case, may I congratulate you on choosing a website where everyone will agree with your opinion.

Wait, exactly how are they going to initiate blood loss in these pigs? I have the feeling that those fucktards at PETA will have a field day over this.

As for DARPA... when are you finally going to make a Metal Gear?

Enough with the zombifying of everything, it's just keeping people alive, not turning them into undead murdering monsters!

Grr...

Fucking. Called it.

Okay, not exactly a zombie potion, but this sounds like it could lead to something freakier in the future. Here's hoping for an accidental spill of the next step!

Anyway, on a serious note, this is pretty cool - it'll save a lot of our soldiers for sure. Damn IEDs have been taking too many of them out for the last seven years.

The U.S. Government is just now figuring out how to do this? Witch Doctors have been 'zombifying' people for centuries now! That's government inefficiency for you!

Yes, fundamentalists. Like the ones who oppose stem cell research. Stem cell research is that parallel that you do not see. Stem cells will very likely cure some of the nastier varieties of cancer in the coming decades, though some would argue at the cost of this "destruction of potential life." Of course, if I'm smart and I wear a rubber, the same argument could be made for my actions (I'm contributing more to art than science here, though).

I watched a docmentry on something simialr a while back, they think about doing it with heart transplants. Stop the patient bleeding by putting them in a artifial hibination and remove vital organs without blood loss. I think its a great advancment!

More serious brain related question...

What effect would stopping blood flow have on the brain? I thought that if you starve the brain of oxygen you have 2minutes at the very most before you end up in permanent serious brain damage territory.

It'll be no good keeping someone alive for ten hours if you're going to wake them up into a state where they either die very quickly anyway or wish they had in the first place.

Eh, they've probably thought of that already, no doubt the solution's ingenius.
You're all forgetting sleep. Heart rate slows down when you sleep, deep sleep even more. Comatose more than that. Dropping someone down to that state from a heightened adrenaline rush can't hurt. In theory.

Problem.

After oxygen cut-off to the brain for extended periods, you turn vegetable.

I hope they veto this disgusting "suspended animation" solution.

This is the first step towards The Rather Large Green One, ladies and gentlemen. Start stocking up on handbooks, food, water, weaponry, and badass quotes.

I never factored undead pigs into my zombie apocalypse survival plan, time to go back to the drawing board.
I did! Boar-spears ftw

This whole thing sounds a bit questionable. The lack of oxygen may do some serious damage to the brain (and other parts). Also worried about other uses the drug may have.....

Unfortunately, this stuff will most likely land in only the hands of Special Forces for the next few years and then possibly make it's way to the common medic's bag.

Who knows when the civilian applications will reach us? And even then, the possibly staggering cost will keep it from saving anyone who can't afford insurance.
