The difference is that Stem Cell research involves making a sacrifice (whether you perceive it as a human sacrifice or not) in the name of saving existing humans. This zombie serum doesn't seem to involve anything like that. At least, not any more than any other medicine which is tested on animals.
It's really not a perfect comparison, which again leads me to believe this is more ranting than anything else. Especially since the implication that all fundamentalists are vehemently opposed to stem cell research in and of itself is somewhat fallacious. People can't be pigeonholed quite so easily.
First, I'm aware of the difference. The point I was initially making, the one you responded to, was that any advancement in science that will stave off death beyond our previous ability to do so will be met by a large number of fundamentalist outrage/protest. I never claimed the comparison to be an example of perfection, which is itself an unattainable ideal and stands as a perfect example of the limitations of language.
Second, I would disagree with your statement that a "sacrifice" is being made. These are, after all, cells. While technically life is being created and then destroyed, your own skin is constantly creating, using and then shedding cells. Every time a woman menstruates she is destroying potential life. As George Carlin would put it, if you're right then every woman is a mass murderer.
Third, I would request that you do not put words into my mouth. I never stated that every variety of fundamentalist is against a particular phenomenon. I will state now, however, that by virtue of being a fundamentalist one is pigeonholing himself.
