Okay, so I browse a lot of forums, and I love to play online multiplayer games.
I know there are literally millions of screenames out there, and it's hard to come up with something fresh and new, but seriously, from what I'm seen lately, people aren't even trying.

I was playing Home last week, and walked passed a guy with the screen name of "Gamer1234", and today on QJ, a guy posted with the screename "66247".

It's not that hard to think of something not stupid. Take my name of RobotoWorks for example, created only about 6 months ago, and everywhere I've registered with that name, I found it to be available.

So sorry if this is a useless, long rant, but I thought I'd share my opinion about this.

Yah I have noticed that crap too. People need to come up with something interesting besides random letters. It takes away the whole point of being able to choose your own screenname.

It may be an inside joke that no one understands (Like mine) and there name is there own and it could mean something to them

Making a personal screen-name is something a person might regret (sort of like a digital tattoo). It's hard to regret generic tags or numbers, so why not choose something either trademark or simple to remember?

I could have selected "LedZeppelinSuperFan," but what if I end up hating Led Zeppelin later on down the line (as is likely and was indeed the case)? That's not exactly an accurate representation. I think you're reading a bit too far into things.

Speaking for myself, I don't even know what the hell my screen name means. I just liked the arrangement of letters.

Personally I have no problems unless I'm trying to access a site widely used by Serbians, since my username is my real-life first name (most people thimk it's an homage to the band Trivium which is odd since I hate their music...). My dad was born in the UK, as was I, and I've never been to Serbia, but his family was from there so I was given a Serbian name. I use it because no-one ever believes it could possibly be my real name. So really I'm not very imaginitive with a username, just plain lazy (except when I'm on Youtube, where I post my videos under the name 'Crispymongoose').

Why do names have to be original. Sure I use an original one (but I use it everywhere, so how original is that); but one of my siblings uses a variant on his/her given name (Think Johan instead of John; or Katharina instead of Cathrine).

Now, if you're going to be online a lot, it helps to be consistent: as mentioned I always use Zac Quicksilver or a variant (ZQuicksilv for those places that limit names to 10 characters). But originality is in the eye of the beholder, and as long as I can distinguish you from the crowd, I don't care.

I think trying to put a joke or a message in it is fairly stupid, as is having a number or 'decoration' on it. Take 'xXUltrajoeXx' for example.

A name should be a name. Something by which you are identified to your peers. I find it hard to take someone seriously without such a title.

Besides. My name is Pure Ultra.

Like UltraJoe said, I don't care for names that are decorated or anything. I think joke names are hilarious though =P My xbox live name is L0af0fBread and my brother's names are B0wl0fsoup and Glass0fMilk. Then a buddy of mine's name is Stack0fPancakes. We're the diet clan.

As far as forums go, Mr.Pandah is my name no matter what. I used to go by lone_wolf, but I found that to be used quite often and I like how I add the h to the end Panda. It just seems cooler.

As far as being uncreative goes, I think everyone else has already said enough.

I have a personal vendetta against tags with more than three numbers after it or is something like XXX5P4R74NXXX. I mean, how is that phoenetically possible? KsKsKsSpartanKsKsKS? I mean, really?

Well I have used this screenname in games since I first started multiplayer stuff way back with Battle.net and Starcraft so I guess you could say that I have a special connection with my screenname. I certainly couldn't imagine it being something else.

Most of the time I don't really care, but it annoys me when it's something like "nARuTo11345928428" or anything with x's around it.

Hey, aslong as I get to use "Jumplion" as my username, I 'ain't complaining.

Or if it's taken, then "Jumpliono" will do just fine.

Walrus42 or TheWalrus425 is my username for most of the things I post on, but I can be accused of having an unoriginal name because I changed it from OnlySubscribedToCommentYahtzee.

I find that the most annoying usernames are the ones that are like "PH34R M4H 4W3SOM3 1337N3SS" or "I PWN N00BS"

My username here is also my xbox live name, as well as a few other sites. When you google it the Myspace one isn't mine though. Bastard stole my name. Also myspace sucks.

I've actually had a few people on xbox live comment on this name. One of the best was "at least its original and not filled with a bunch of random Xes".

Also, I have no idea what it is supposed to mean. I made it up when I registered to some site (I've now forgotten which) and I was really high at the time. When I analyzed it when I was sober I decided that I liked it.
