I use one of 2 screen names wherever I go: Bored Tomatoe, or Wombat Cannon....I personally like the latter.

For me the biggest crime (coming from a WOW background) is people who pick something like 'sephiroth', realise it's taken, so just crowbar foreign letters into the name.

Note I have no problem with people using accented characters in their proper place, just when they're used to get a name that's already taken...483 times.Sephîröth, I mean, just begs for a slap. I've seen names that look like they're infested with fleas, there's so many accented characters crammed into it.

On a roleplay server, this is an issue: it hurts immersion for other players, and a vigilent GM staff will ban you from those servers.

However, in most other cases, I find it a thoroughly irrational expectation that the players will be creative. They're not there to amuse you, and they know it.

I much prefer screen names that make sense and avoid decoration or numbers. Playing TF2 or any other multiplayer game, it's really hard to voice chat with someone called -LNauL8944-. And then of course there are people who come up with something ludicrously infantile. A name is something that people will attach to a specific person, and if said person wants to be known as Pewp (I have run into this before) everywhere on the internet, it doesn't do much for their credibility.

I came up with The Yokai as my screen name for everything from my WoW account to the Windows Help Forum. Now I'm kind of regretting doing so. As was mentioned above, one should pick a screen name that doesn't apply to their interests. I'm not as much of a Japan nut as I was when I came up with this particular name, but of course it's impossible to change now. Now I try to go with Davie, a shortened version of my middle name, but I find that's rarely available.

I'm mostly indifferent to this. It's just that if I need to write the name down or ever need to type it, then I don't want it to be impossible. As far as I care, I only need to like my name because that's what I will be identified as for the rest of my time as a member of whatever thing I joined.

What about mine, eh?

vdgmprgrmr? It's cool, no? I mean, I'm one of those people who hates having numbers in the name, and got fed up with names being taken, so I went for "vdgmprgrmr" from my selected hobby.

I've actually thought about changing it to "VeeDee" (which is the preferred shortening of "vdgmprgrmr"), because it sounds cooler and doesn't reference anything. But there's always the chance that it's used (look at the number of characters in it). But I'm known as vdgmprgrmr everywhere. Here, the Game Master Foundation, TIGSource...

But in FPS games I'm Jackal, because Jackal sounds a lot more deadly than "VeeDee" or "vudgumpurgurmur"... (Strangely, a lot of people don't understand my username...)

Actually, I really like "VeeDee." It sounds really cool. No one take it, please! I call dibs!

El Sketchkov is fairly original I like to think. I haven't seen it anywhere else. Also, I hate numbers. I truly hate numbers in screen names.

And mine? Mine is something people see daily, and fairly unimaginative at that. But there is a story behind it.

In my high school, I was on the soccer team. In one game, a buddy had a throw-in and it was headed towards me. The son of a ***** behind me headbutted me, and got a concussion for his trouble. My friends made the "if you joined football you wouldn't need a helmet!" jokes and Helmet stuck.

Yah I have noticed that crap too. People need to come up with something interesting besides random letters. It takes away the whole point of being able to choose your own screenname.
It may be an inside joke that no one understands (Like mine) and there name is there own and it could mean something to them
Well, if you take out the M, its Btard.
And your avatar is Deadpool, the hero of /b/, so....

Someone called you a Btarmd one day and you made it your name

this is off-topic but I find it odd that in a sea of pictures of skulls that are on the internet you have the same avatar as my friends gamerpic.

More to the point I used to have a different name but on top of the first word being inadvertently misspelled it was based on Rurouni Kenshin which I hadn't watched in forever, so I decided to freshen it up. I've never had someone else have this username, it might have something to do with me purposefully misspelling "Lincoln" though.

Hahahha i notice some people try to make their name look "gangstar" e.g.

XxIxluvxW33dxX

That one is real which makes it all the more sad.

By the way, my name is a combination of my favorite game and story I'm writing, both completely unrelated of each other.

I have had this screenname for as long as I have been able to have one. I forgot why I have the 1, even if Jayish isn't taken, but I still put it there.

I couldn't think of anything really interesting for my name, so I settled for this. It's served me well, but when I first saw silver here I decided that would have been awesome. I love that name.

I quote Arby'n the Chief...

"What's his screen name?"
"xXxSmokeW33d4Lyphe420xXx."

I came up with Klagermeister a number of years ago.
When I registered for Runescape. My friend asked me...
"What do you want your username to be?"
After only 2 seconds of thinking, I said "Klagermeister!'
I've used it ever since as my screen name on EVERYTHING.

I use this name for anything over the Internets (message boards, commenting, and such) but I use Hystaene for my gamertag and will use it as my WoW account name. Maybe. Unless I think of something better.
