For every good user name there's gonna be about 5 bad ones, roughly.

Gotta have someone make your name look even better, eh? Isn't that right, fuchs1337?

My screen name = My name. So sue me! It's always available and I wasn't feeling particularly creative that day!

ahhh yes...the story behind Dkozza...well thats a long story so sit yourselves down children and get a glass of warm milk.

Dkozza is a mix of my first and last name. First Name being Daniel and Last name being so overly complicated its Kostrzyński (its polish)and Dkozza its kind of a shortened version that sounds cool (in my eyes). First used on RuneScape, and now on everything I use. Another one I use is DTMFI which is a personal joke with a friend meaning Dan The Man From Ireland (I'm Polish so i dunno where Ireland comes in). Luckily Dkozza is never taken as it is too original and good :p.

P.S.: Dkozza is pronounced Dee-cause-ah.

Another trend in names I've noticed is ones where they bash other games. For example, I remember seeing a name along the lines of "Hal0 bl0Z!" or something along those lines. I personally can't stand those as a name especially when they start playing those games just to piss off the players playing the game. (Although sometimes the names can be very funny)

Why does a screen-name matter anyway; its just a way of identifying you....?

Yes D_987, but the thing is, no one will be able to identify someone with a name that is completely unoriginal.

I love my screenname. It's pronouncable and original, and it's also a bad pun! score.

I don't really mind numbers and xX's at the beginning of every gamertag, it's the overkill of words like sniper, dark, kill, omega, or the ridiculously common practice of throwing two words together that don't have anything to do with eachother. Like, EloquentDonkey or something. Oh wow, you're hilarious.

I've been using this nick on the internet since I was... 12 I believe. It's a small anagram of my name and for has served me rather well all that time.

P.S. In MMOs it was hard to come up with different variations of the same name for several characters...

I'm Wordsmith, TheWordsmith or The_Wordsmith, depending on what's taken. I have to admit though, to all the people who hate the "bordered" names, my Steam name is "{{~The_Wordsmith~}}" because I thought it looked cool. The whole xxmyaccountname89283xxx thing annoys me too though... damn hypocrits...

I dont mind generic names, but prefixes/suffixes like the following need to be tossed into the Sun:

666
xXx (or variants thereof)
Devil
Angel
Devilangel
Azn

And many others can be added to this "annoying addons" list.

Normally I make it Titillandus, but most automated whachamacallems only see the "tit" part, so I end up having to intentionally misspell it.
On a side note, I have no idea why I decided to go for Monkfish acc. on the Escapist. I guess I felt like being original.

Yah I have noticed that crap too. People need to come up with something interesting besides random letters. It takes away the whole point of being able to choose your own screenname.
It may be an inside joke that no one understands (Like mine) and there name is there own and it could mean something to them
Well, if you take out the M, its Btard.
And your avatar is Deadpool, the hero of /b/, so....

Someone called you a Btarmd one day and you made it your name

Nope it has nothing to do with Deadpool.....The AM means Aqua-Man and the rest is a secret!
I do know what people mean by the uncreativity of Gamer1234 though

rosac was just a random name for me. however, fate and irony bit back at me. It turns out its a medicine that drys skin out so it can regrow, and I suffer from dry skin/exma.

goddamn fate.

I don't mind if your name your character "John392" or something, but what I really don't like is when characters try to give them selves names that are arrogant. "Headshot(+)" or "Root of All Evil" unless you happen to be a sniper rifle or the devil don't give yourself names like that. I havn't ever seen anyone with my name btw. But if some of you out there are so unoriginal take a little of my creativity with names I came up with out of the blue "Heart-Attackitious, Undead Grenades, Spain's Backup Plan" things like that have always worked great for me. Inspecially if you leave some weird question (ie: Spain's Backup Plan) where you can fill in the blanks. (I'm sure someone will take that Undead Grenades one)

Well, at least this thread dragged me out of lurkerism, where I've seen since 07 and Yahtzee's Bioshock review.

I've been using this username since late 2004/2005 when, after a bit of replaying RTCW online (56k at the time, 6 player servers only) I found myself naming myself Class-Dave, so Medical Dave, Soldier Dave, Engineer Dave... In the end I gave up and just used Useful Dave because I kept doing the objectives. I've been using it since then, and I've had so many 'You're unuseful dave!' etc things, although I did get someone on a forum once with the name Useless Mike...

I use mine on just about everything. Someone mid spelt my surname and it stuck. Simple enough. It's actually not a dirty reference at all. =)

Most screennames are OK with me, but I do have less respect for people who use numbers and non-alphabetic symbols in their names.
That, my friend, is profiling, and profiling is wrong.
