People need to stop getting annoyed that others will pay $60 for Black Ops.

The only thing I'm pissed off about is that people online can be such meanies... seriously, I've never played it before. Stop being such dicks if I die a few times >>
LOL you'd be treated worse if you were on XBL XD

People are hardcore like that, they expect people to have played a COD when they get online.

Plenty of people would criticize me for a lot of my purchases. I think getting so excited over black ops is silly, but a lot of my friends probably thought the same when I was so excited about getting ME2. Or would have been, if I told them. But yeah... People are different, what can ya do...

Well with the obesity rates skyrocketing in this country as of late, Congress actually amended the Constitution to up the level to 60 burgers, seeing as people's stomachs have that much more room nowadays.

Jesus christ dude, chill.

I was just saying most people in the world realize it's a horrible addiction... if you disagree you're probably one of them.
Well, of course. If I disagree, I must be oblivious.

I don't play WoW, however, I take offense when you generalize a group based on your own twisted perception of what it's based around.

Let me start by quoting the rest of my post, which you failed to read somehow...

---"I don't think I'm superior. I'm not buying Black Ops for basically the same reason I didn't get L4D2. Sure, I honestly do think if NO ONE bought it, it would do wonders for the franchise, but I also just don't think it's gonna have much lasting value."---

Seriously though, I really don't care what some loser on the internet thinks is "cool".

What you fail to understand is that, as the mass consumer base, we shape this medium in the long run. If you're happy playing a new, slightly different, CoD game every year, then buy it. Honestly, I don't want the industry to cater to my needs; I just want it to flourish.

However, I seriously dislike many new "problems" that have developed over the years (DLC, DRM, same game/unmodified engine, etc...) and we have to realize that our choices of what we purchase, what we pirate, and what we don't give a second thought to, are the underlying reason behind said problems.
Yeah. You might also want to remember these two:

Hey, could it be that you are just a passive aggressive dick who has to bash people who actually care about the industry which they work/play in?

However, by paying 60 dollars for Black Ops, you're helping ensure that CoD falls down a similar path of releasing not-so-different content for full price.

Yeah. So, in other words, "I don't think I'm better than you, despite the fact that you don't follow my wonderful example."

Also, if you don't care about some "loser" on the Internet, what the bloody hell are you doing here?

It's a discussion forum. People are expected to be reasonable here. You're not being reasonable.

In b4 someone states themselves as superior to the "mindless sheep" that buys COD every year. Seriously, the elitism is just astounding, I'm starting to think this site is comparable to 4chan's /v/.

I completely agree OP, some people can't just accept the fact other people enjoy playing those games and have to think themselves as superior to those people.
I don't think I'm superior. I'm not buying Black Ops for basically the same reason I didn't get L4D2. Sure, I honestly do think if NO ONE bought it, it would do wonders for the franchise, but I also just don't think it's gonna have much lasting value.

That's why I almost didn't get Reach, and I'm starting to regret that now.

Maybe you haven't been on the receiving end of it yet, but the amount of people on here (and even on GameFAQs) viewing themselves as edgy and anti-conformist for not buying a video game is simply astounding. A game which most people on earth will never buy, or possibly even hear of.

And everyone is just as much of a sheep as the next, just sometimes you have a smaller herd.
Hey, could it be that you are just a passive aggressive dick who has to bash people who actually care about the industry which they work/play in?

Or are we all just edgy *non-conformists*?
I didn't say you were one just for not buying the game, but there are a lot of people that are. Maybe I didn't make this clear, I type kind of slow and end up forgetting to put things in.

Anyway, people don't buy the game. Maybe they don't like it, maybe they don't have the money, whatever. Maybe they just hate Kotick. That's fine, they can express why.

What I was trying to say was that the people that bothered me were the ones bragging about it. I don't have the exact thread anymore, as it was a few days ago, but on the 360 RDR board on GameFAQs, there was a thread where the OP claimed that everyone who bought black ops was a mindless moron, and that everyone who bought RDR was a brilliant prodigy saving gaming. This isn't hyperbole, that's pretty much what he said.

Of the ten (at the time I read it) response, one person disagreed with him. They didn't even like Black Ops, they were just disagreeing with all the generalizations. So that's what I'm mad at.

Also, how was I being passive aggressive? I'm horrible at conveying tone through text and I'd hate to have sounded like that when I didn't mean to.

Yeah but my point is...why does it bother you? Who cares what idiots think or say? You don't need to defend the game... their words won't cause it to end or further content to be dispensed with. At worst they are trolling you and this thread is massive bait for every anti Black Ops troll to come rushing in and tell OP why he/she is wrong.
It's more blowing off steam. Can't really directly engage the trolls, it encourages them. So I fire off a quick rant, and then I don't get angry at them anymore. I've expressed my feelings towards intelligent people at that point, so I'm not even tempted to engage the trolls.

The stupidity meter just went through the roof with some of these posts. It's all about perspective and priorities. Simple as this: Do you think game X is worth $Y? Will you have fun with it? If yes? Buy it. If no? Don't buy it.

This is turning into a "who's holier than who" argument, and I'll just end it with, I guess I'm a dick for thinking I'm awesome for not buying CoD, and you're a dick for thinking people who don't buy CoD for ulterior motives are dicks.

Ever been to Five Guys Burgers and Fries? Best damn burgers ever.

Don't get large fries though. Even the small ones are worth three heart attacks and diabetes.

I'm going to ask this question.

Is there anything that Black Ops multiplayer has that you could not have added to MW2 via DLC?
The engine is the same, most of the weapons are the same, a lot of the perks are copy pasted, everything is just a polished version of the previous game plus a few "crazy" weapons like the crossbow and ballistic knives.

The success of Call of Duty is entirely by fate. Any shooter today could fill in the void if COD decided to just drop off the planet because there is so little difference. The only thing Treyarch had to do to sell BLOPS was to say "its not as shit as MW2!" and people would buy it. And indeed they have.

I dunno man.

There's good arguments on both sides, I just don't like how some people seem to think buying Black Ops will NOT shape the industry what-so-ever. This is the first CoD game in a potential series of "one CoD game every year". If it sells well, there will be another one next year. If they start doing well, other games may follow the example.

That's where other people start getting worried. Sure, a lot of people just want to preach from their soapbox about how they hate Kotick, but he's just capitalizing on us... it's really not his fault.

You can't buy a bottle of coke for a cent anymore.
A cent back then meant more than a cent right now.
Also, WoW can be an addiction for some people, but that's just the minority that's plastered all over the internet, stereotyping the rest of the playerbase.
I tried it for 3 months (a friend had given me a 3 month subscription for my birthday, I thought why the hell not), though it was OK but MMORPGs usually aren't my thing, a little too much grinding sans the fun combat of western RPGs like Fallout 3/New Vegas.

I watched him play a few times just to get a feel for it and by the 15 minute mark, I was confused by all the WoW lingo. Just like when he watches me play Starcraft 2 :p

Here in Australia it costs around a hundred for Black-Ops, and I don't play MMORPG's anymore thanks to the fact that they ate through money like nobody's business.

So how in the hell can Americans rage because they're paying $60 US for a game when over here we have to pay upwards of $100 AUS, and we don't even get the earlier release dates or slick ads on telley or even the billboards (My father had to go to a developer's conference a year or so ago near, well, Silicone Valley and on the way there the GIGANTIC billboard for Fallout 3 looming over the streets of LA was mesmerising).

/Aussie-fuelled rant. Ultimately what I'm trying to say is, don't go on about a game being too pricey (ESPECIALLY if you're from the states). These developers have mouths to feed and if you're really that bothered about it don't get the game.

Well I always buy COD used, but that's beside the point.

I think the point of the COD franchise is not to really set trends, but to perfect them. I mean, most other COD knock-offs have failed, right? MOH under-performed, and a few others lost money. The COD model is successful for COD, but COD fans mostly just buy COD, and play it till the next one. There's not really a market for "Like COD but will be dead in three months and none of your friends play".
