So I have a friend. He is the kind of guy who quotes Zero Puntuation in convosation and makes way to many game refrences. Recently, after a few days of fallout 3, he has started to call coke 'nuka-cola' and laughs at other people because he has more bottle caps then us.

Now I don't think he is the kind of guy who would hurt someone (mainly because is isnt physically strong enough...) but is it these kinds of people who decide to attack someone with a drill because they saw it on a game? Or is his constant - ever so annoying refence to games just a harmless frustration?

So do you know anyone like this? Do you do it? Do you think people really CAN be effected by games to the point they will hurt someone?

What? You're not meant to use a chainsaw for that?

Effect you? Absolutely, the same way TV shows effect you. Nothing huge just small things you say or jokes you make. There's no way video games could cause a normal person to go on a killing spree. No sane person will just start shooting people because they did it in Fallout. Maybe they could cause some one to slightly hurt you, I would of never tried smothering my friend with a pillow if I didn't see it on TV first, but generally people who go on killing spree's don't need Master Chief to show them how to do it first.

He seems to be easily influenced the only way to see if he will hurt someone is if he develops an interest in bludgeoning weapons and enjoys hurting people mainly himself.

People who obsess over things, much like your friend, have a much greater chance of being next up in the "GTA made me do it" line of murders, but that's not factoring in his mental health and personality and all those fun things that go towards the actual murder part of it.

I do this, and so do a lot of people. Though I don't think it's a problem you have to worry about, unless it's really annoying. If so, perhaps try to help you friend realize that there is a limit to how much hysterical laughter is really appropriate over a pile of bottle caps. He's not going to physically hurt anyone unless you give him sufficient reason too, which usually does not involve video games.

He has no personality and originality so uses refrences from games as a substitute. Tell him to join you and your friends in the real world. oh and the whole " my son played gta then punched his brother in the face so ban the game" kind of thing is just people who are unable to except responsibility for thier actions.

I prefer to think of it as the "drop the excuses and hit your kid" initiative.

I've been playing an Fallout 3 quite a bit, and I called coke "Nuka-Cola". Once. As a joke. In front of my gamer friends.
Does your friend really call coke Nuka-Cola all the time? Or as a joke in front of you?

I.E.: At, say, McDonalds, would he say : "Can I have a burger and some Nuka-Cola?"

As for your question, if he is joking, then it is (mostly) harmless frustration. My friend used to get riled up because another friend and I talked about games a lot, and made references. But not as bad as your friend.

I don't think it's necessarily the same as someone who'd build a real-life Fatman and fire it into the school building. There are also people who quote authors or movies a lot, although people who quote Wordsworth are considered intelligent, he's just considered insane. Different people like different things and if they wish to act these out they should.

However if your friend decides to act like this he'd better be prepared to be looked at in a funny way.

Again I don't think he'll wind up attacking someone with a drill.

..unless you've seen him stealing lunchboxes from everyone so he can make bottlecap mines.

It sounds like your friend just like jumping on bandwagons, more than imitating games. ZP is popular, so he quotes it, and Fallout 3 is popular so he quotes that.

Also, I do collect coke bottle caps, but that's for the My Coke Rewards program...

It won't be long till he starts yelling "n00b" in public. Nip it in the bud; punch him in the face and yell "BOOM, HEADSHOT".

Jokes aside, if he's doing it after a week he's probably not going to stop for a while.

I know someone that ONLY talks about games. Unfortunately that means he cut off from 99% of societal activities. And yes it is harmful, but what can you do about it? It's their life. If talking doesn't work not sure what else you can do without getting in trouble.

your friend just lives a very dull life and is awfully unimaginative. I knew people like that when I was younger...they grew up or I abandoned them for there own safety.

Hahaha I absolutely have to try that XD
I've always thought things like that were funny as hell but most people don't see things the same way as I do so I've given up for the most part unless I'm trying to annoy the hell out of somebody (repurposing stuff works too ^^)

A couple of people I know make game jokes, but we play games so it makes sense. The same way that I know a bunch of guys who like to do Monty Python jokes, it's just some harmless fun. You lot all need to stop being so terrified and analytical and maybe think about pulling those planks out of your arses.

I quote games when I'm with friends, and ZP as well when I'm with people who also watch it frequently. Also I wanted a pair of shoes similar to Faith's after having played Mirror's Edge. I don't think I should be ashamed that I got tabi for christmas right...?

Also I know someone who constantly quotes movies and tv shows like we should have all seen them, then if I don't know what he's talking about he starts to explain the whole movie/show until I very inconspicuously change the topic.
