This issue hits a bit close for me seeing as how HP has officially forgotten my video card ever existed and has taken all of the drivers for it off of their website.
that's why you don't buy name brands like that with pc's and laptops suffer the same fate

but as for the game demanding more horse power, that's par for the course really

there will always be games that demand more horsepower, the original unreal and doom 3 were 2 games that fell into that category

Well, Crysis main selling point was just that, top-notch graphics. Some people actualy think it is important.

So your are telling me that graphics arn't important? Ok, lets see how much fun you have playing my to-be-made 8bit GTA IV and Halo 3 and stuff.

Graphics are pretty much the main selling point of shooters nowadays. They are all the same, it just matters which on is the smoothest and has the best display of the violence.
My fav game at the moment is Close Combat 3; 2D top down RTT game with little pixel solders fighting in WWII. The graphics sure as hell dont make this game, funny enough the gameplay does =)

I still have fun playing the original GTA!

A game that cannot be played on more than 5% of all gamers's systems cannot be sold to more than 5% of all gamers.
Great. More room in the market for all the other games then that focus more on gameplay. The earth keeps spinning and the world did'nt end.

Crysis can work on 3 year old computers if you turn down post processing on low and the rest on medium. Post processing is the only thing that demands that much.

OK That part about Crysis was an impulse post - but what is it that makes Windows Vista so "demanding"? It isn't exactly made for "uber computers".

Well, mgs4 was so big that it could only go on the PS3, and even for it they had to downgrade the game so it would fit on a 50 gb Blue-ray double-sided disks (i think)

i think game programers need t start imaging uper computers unless they decide to make their own.

Now correct me if I'm wrong but isn't there an uber PC out there at the moment that is > PS3? Or is the the PS3 the pinacle of gaming muscle at the moment?

The reason that games for PC are getting more and more complicated is so people will think "Oh wow, I need a better computer so I can play this, this, and that" and go spend more money on a new computer. It's like how Xbox gets you with the wireless network adapter. *shakes fist* It's all just to get people to spend more and more money, which regrettably, is needed... especially in Ohio, our economy sucks balls.

EDIT: Same goes for Vista. Microsoft's money-making scam. Better computers are needed to run it, so they get to jack prices on their new computers up. And if you buy Vista with a shitty computer, you'll alas, need to buy better parts, or just upgrade (yes it's STILL an upgrade) back to XP, thereby still having spent money on Vista anyhow. Microsoft's great at this.

Same, I'm pissed at paying through the nose for the privilidge of playing my games. So my PC will soon also be locked in antiquity, which isn't such a bad thing if you consider that a great deal of the older games (sudden strike, starcraft, tiberian sun, red alert 2, fallout, Homeworld) are as much fun or more fun than a great many games.

Mainly I only upgrade every five years so I can play all the older games.

And to all of you who bought crysis- hah!

What "their new computers"? When did Microsoft start selling computers?

Vista is'nt made to require more power on purpose. They just add the features they like and then try to minimize requirements as much as they can because the more computers that can run it. The more Vista software they get to sell to people with older computers.

yeah it was their sheer incompetence that made it run slower than xp on faster computers

microsoft really needs to work on memory optimization, they just can't do it.

take linux for example, it has window managers that have run circles around both windows and mac for years, they've had transparencies on the desktop for over 10 years now. their window mangers have moved beyond eye candy and could aptly be called eye sex or eye orgasm because of all the cool stuff it can do

the ONLY one out of them that was really slow was enlightenment but it's cause it was well ahead of the curve. as they window managers improve, the speed does too or at least stays on par, ie faster machine means better performance.

and now ppl have had enough of the craptastic operating systems that m$ produces and are only buying vista when it's forced on them, xp after sp2 was actually a really good operating system. if they made vista an improved xp, better security, and added a bit of eye candy, they would have a good os but they didn't and ppl don't want it

20 years with nothing but sheer incompetence and Microsoft is still one of the richest most powerful companies in the world. They must be doing something right.

Didn't like unreal tournament do that back when? It seems to help push sales and advancement of technology. If no one built games pushing the limits advancements would be slower. I'm all for doing something different.

yeah it's called doing illegal things, hence why they were tried and found guilty of the abuses they were. they forced ALL hardware makers to pay them a license fee for motherboards and hard drives that may possibly have a m$ product installed and good luck getting that "tax" back if you don't use m$ products, getting hitler to read from the torrah might be easier

i just wish that bush hadn't got into power when he did, they would probly be split into a few companies if he didn't, he ordered their harsh penalty to be a slap on the wrist with an apology if it was too hard of a slap once he got in

You know if you have to turn down the settings in order to get the game to run, you are simply not experiencing the game the way it was intended. To try and exscuse developers like Crytek because you can change the game settings to get their program to run (Does not mean it will run well.) is silly.

I don't really care much for graphics, I'll use a console for that, because I don't need to consistently upgrade it. For computers, all I need is a good game (No matter how old, I still play text-based adventure) and I'm fine. Screw the new games: I'll just play them on someone else's computer.
