Well it once again nicely outlined gaming markets 3 biggest flaws:
- publishers have no shame (they will pay for any statement that sells)
- gaming "journalists" have even less shame then publishers
- the majority of this community does not understand the supplier/consumer relationship, as a consumer if you want good value for money it is your job to demand it, because the supplier will look to pinch out on every side to make the biggest buck

On the whole this industry is still just very young and more importantly childish, while we try to convince others to take it seriously we do need to clean up the pigsty first.

I'll buy the game when I've completed the first two in the series. I just never had enough time to play Mass Effect, I was always playing something else.

I have yet to play ME3 (SO NO SPOILERS THANKYOUVERYMUCH), but I will next month. It's most likely worth it, regardless of what people say, and... Well, seems to be only 3 endings, but it's still a choice. Shepard makes the right one, Bioware be damned. I'll play it, like it, maybe whine with a friend over how it could have been better, but in the end be happier from the experience. Things don't always turn out the way you want them to, but that doesn't make it a bad experience.

haven't played it yet so i'll cross that bridge when i come to it, in regard to the day one DLC it doesn't bother me as it has nothing to do with the main storyline

I'm sort of surprised by this whole thing. Not the nerd rage, birds fly, fish swim, nerds rage, that's just how it is. Instead I am surprised by the fact that Bioware who are always two steps above most in the realm of video game writing would mess this up so bad. Now I still haven't played ME3 yet but the ending cannot be worse then the end of Final Fantasy 13-2.

I've been doing my damnedest to avoid hearing anything about the ending details, as I haven't had a chance to play my copy of the game yet. I am getting kind of worried about it though.

When there is this much outcry about something, it makes me worried about how I'll feel about it. And, like the OP, I feel like I might end up disappointed somehow, either in the ending itself, or by how ridiculous the outrage was (if it turns out the ending really isn't that bad).

I guess we'll have to wait and see what all the hub-bub is about.

Could never get into mass effect, I have the first game and ive never been able to play further than 4 or 5 hours, ive heard mass effect 2 was far better but i figured i wouldnt know what was going on without playing mass effect 1, anyway on topic- It doesn't really bother me, seeing the 10 threads a day about it doesn't annoy me and I dont understand why people do get annoyed by them, its easy just to skip past them when you see 'mass effect' or 'ME3' in the title, I do think people should probably just chill a bit though, at the end of the day they paid for the game and they enjoyed the game which is the main thing, and (I know its been said a thousand bloody times but..) this is EA we're talking about..you know..'EA its in the game!' ..(and if its not we'll charge you $10 for DLC later) .

Well, some people are upset about something they care about. All sorts of shenanigans always follow such an event.

Eh, I'm not surprised. There's bound to be rage one way or another. Bioware had to make 3 games, two of which was supposed to set up for the third one, they also proclaimed that "all your choices matter" in the past two games which considering the amount of dialogue in a Bioware game, the choices you had to make would be plenty, and would be difficult to implement in the final game.

Though what I'm surprised is that people actually think Bioware writes good stories. Granted, I never knew the company until KOTOR and the writing there is pretty cliche, I mean, I saw the twist from a mile away, also I've always been spoilt by Obsidian's games and writing so that may also have affected me one way or another.

Also, complaining about a product that dissatisfied you to its creators is GOOD. You paid for that product and it's in your right to voice out any dissatisfaction you had.

I find that I hate both sides. The hater side for their utter depravity and depths that they are stooping to to get what they want. The fanboy side for their utter dismissal of any and all criticism under the pretense that the haters just want a "happy rainbow" ending.

Now, this vitriol only extends to the extremists on both sides. People who like the ending and leave it at that, I'm fine with. People who hate the ending and point out it's valid flaws without attacking others or doing stupid stunts are fine as well.
So aboslutely this. I was soured on the franchise by the time I finished ME2 and on board with some of the legitimate complaints of ME3 before and around release. Shit has gotten out of hand, though.

What's more, having read the endings on the ME wiki, which is my substitute for actually playing a game when the gameplay bores me, I find I'm not particularly bothered by the endings. Not great, but not "Oh, my God, burn everything!" bad either. Then you read the threads about people trying to sue them and I can't help but think:"Guys, chill the fuck out."

It's like, I really enjoy squid, you know? And if a restaurant made sub-standard squid, I wouldn't throw a fit or burn the whole place down. I'd just stop going there, man. Metaphors, yo.

EDIT: I've only read the endings and not actually watched video footage of them. I don't know if the execution/presentation is any good.
It would be closer to a restaurant serving squid that had been soaked in hot (not even boiling) water and then claiming it was cooked. No chef in their right mind would agree to that, just like no writer in their right mind should be okay with the ME3 ending.

If I were to get squid like that, essentially raw just a little warm, I would damn well make a fuss about it and demand they take it back. That's what most people want. They don't want Bioware to collapse and burn to the ground. They want Bioware to fix their mistake.

The rage was amusing at first but then it got very boring and silly especially when people started talking legal action or were begging to pay for a better ending.

TBH id be lieing if i didnt say i hope something similiar happens with Half life 2 ep 3(if it ever gets made) as far as story just to see if the uproar is as bad as this.
