When I'm online (forums and stuff) I've recently been making it a point to use decent grammar, however in texts and things like that, I'm a but more careless... I'm not that bad though.. I usually just keep it to "k" and "ur"

The only word i intentinaly spell wrong is cool, i spell it kewl from time to time, just because i can.

But if the word has less letters then its real spelling counterpart that might be the reason because of the 160 character text limit, it all depends.

And just becaus people are immature.

What really puzzles me is that me and my friends pretty much all use correct spelling when texting, but my parents insist on using text speak.

I don't feel like I have anything to add to this thread really. Like so many have said before, they think it's funny/cute/"sexy" and such... Since I'm not a native english user I try to keep my grammar as correct as possible, and...

Its becuase people think being immature is funny. End of discussion. Sure its stupid, but so are some people.

I don't often see coming spelled as cumming, I do see plenty other misspelled words such as anyone as ne 1, and someone as sum1. I know it takes a little less time to type words in a shorthanded format, and yes majority of people can still understand the misspellings, but it makes the people who use the shortened words seem like their I.Q. may be lower than others. I for the most part want to and try to use proper grammar as much as I can.

I think it's because we are literally cumming,, want to imagine tht we are cumming instead of just coming to your stupid whatever we're going, think we're witty or just because we want to use a different key in teh word(m and o are on the same key, so moving to the u would give variety)

that last reason is just random funzies.

Lets all gather round while i "break it down" as the kids say:

People are clever, and witty. Can you not comprehend the genious of saying cumming instead of coming? Do not belittle these future Richard Pryors and George Carlins.

but I do shorten down words over the internet when not on the escapist :p

I learnt to write properly on the escapist when I got 50 quotes per post telling me im an idiot :)

I didn't realise people misspell intentionally. I thought what you were talking about were those few years when texting on phones got popular so people were writing like:

ok c u soon, luv _____

It was considered a shorthand, but there were a few mistakes people made even when using this, such as:

i rly h8t doing da dishes

the number "8" should eliminate the need for a "t" at the end.

It's not that it's "uncool", it's more that it becomes as a fad, you know, a trend. People are stupid creatures, usually. Especially young people. Now as offensive as that sounds it's true. Most people don't realize these mistakes and that's why they make them. I mean, I know some of my classmates at school who actually write the way they type in skype ir IM or whatever... They're actually that dumb.
I agree with this.Text and IM speak is so commonplace that I reckon many people don't even realise the spelling is wrong and think that's how words actually are spelled

The whole texting language thing is getting out of hand.

I guess for many teenagers its "uncool" to spell like they know the alphabet.

God knows what their childrens' messages will look like......

Well 'Cum' has less letters than 'come'.

I think its simply down to that.
But 'cumming' has more letters than 'coming'.
But Cuming has the same, and thats the way ive seen most people spell it to be honest.

I know its wrong, but thats pretty much the point.

Going against normal society rules is rebellion. Humans, especially children, have an urge to rebel against any authority. So they think its being cool
