In my mind, it really is Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon, no doubt about it.
That's as close to perfectly executed as an album can get, for me. No it doesn't even have "that one" song that just doesn't fit.
No other album in their discography, or anyone else's, can really touch the mastery of execution, the chance alignment of the cosmic awesome, the alchemy of intellect that all combined at the exact, perfect moment in time to craft this one-off gem of pure amazing sonic bliss.

It's almost a freak accident that something this amazing got crafted, IMO. The odds are like lightning striking a polar bear mauling a snow leopard not once, but twice, in the Southern Sahara during a blizzard.

That's all I can really say on that.

this... it even has perfect cover art...

Plus, it was the first album I ever bought.
Sad. Everything went downhill from there.

No it didn't. Kid A was arguably the best album of the 00s. Personally, I prefer it to OK Computer.
In Rainbows was great album as well. Although not as good as OK Computer or Kid A, Amnesiac and Hail to the Theif are very good albums as well.

I do love every Radiohead album, but I still prefer OK Computer to Kid A. Just a little.

and be JUST the right length
be VALUE for money
and make you want to dance like a bastard

I can only think of two. The first is 'Wait for me' by Moby.......the seconds is this....

I still own my copy from 20 years ago. It was the first CD I ever bought and is looking a little thrashed!

There's some good albums on here, some absolutely horrible albums on here, but not a single mention of Genesis' The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway? Quite possibly the single greatest achievement in Prog Rock history?

Damn you all to hell!
King Crimson,King Crimson,King Crimson.... no one but me mentions King Crimson, no one but me mentioned Opeth or Cynic.

I need to listen to Genesis though. XD
Hey man I like in The Court of the Crimson King as much as the next guy, hell I listened to it in the car every day for a full week, but it just doesn't measure up to Lamb.

IMO Amnesiac > Kid A > In Rainbows > Hail to the Thief, OK Computer & The Bends. I listened to Radiohead's stuff in chronological order (it just happened like that) excluding Pablo Honey, and I didn't really become a fan until I heard Kid A and Amnesiac.

I find both Carnival of Rust and Twilight Theater, by Poets of the Fall, to be equally amazing.

I love Progressive Rock/Metal, and these ones are particularly influenced by Jazz. :p
All hail the Crimson King!

Do you really like that Cynic album more than Focus?

A lot of great albums have been mentioned so far - here are a few more which I feel deserve a spot here. Both hallmarks of alternative rock in their respective decades.

I love this album to death, but do you really like every single song on it? I can never sit through that terrible jazz number.

Between the Buried and Me - Colors
Scale the Summit - Carving Desert Canyons
Green Day - American Idiot
Mastodon - Crack the Skye

None of those are "perfect", but they're the ones that I can often listen to straight through with no problem.
