Cowboy Bebop. Don't really have much of a choice else-wise, it was just so damn beautifully done.

Yup I got to say Cowboy Bebop as well. Serious I spend a few minutes thinking about the animes I had watched that one is worth only mentioning. Maybe I will re-edit this later when I can think of anymore.

For me it is Clannad(made the after story worth watching)
and Yosuga no Sora(pushed the concept "love conqures everything" beyond the limit)

P. S. ANYONE who enjoy watching hellspawn known as School Days should burn in hell!!!!!

I have to go with consensus and say Cowboy Bebop, which managed to bring together a series of episodic events, that for the most part were unrelated. Its rather impressive.

I feel the need to reconsider the whole mysery of my human condition and cry like an American Idol reject every time I think of the ending of "SaiKano: The Last Love Song of This Little Planet"... and pretty much the rest of the series, for that matter.
Also, whomever should spoil you the ending of "Chrno Crusade" deserves Death!
"Angel Beat" is a surprisingly moving one too... especially since I've been spending most of the episodes laughing like a poop-launching monkey under laughing gas!
And I've got a hundreds more from where those come from.

I remember that ending.
I also remember having a WTF expression for about 30 minutes after finishing that anime.

Cowboy Bebop had the perfect ending for me. It just fitted the mood and the theme of the entire anime...

i would have to say kurohime (cause alot of others i would think of have already been listed) it just recently ended and the story was pretty awesome and the flip flop at the end was just great (i also say it cause its one of the mangas i finished recently)

I liked the ending to Elfen Lied's manga.

Lucy dies at the end, no less then being murdered by Koata

It was pretty powerful, shame they never made a new season to the anime to finish off the manga series.

End of Evangelion has an actual ending, so check that out sometime. I agree with Darker than Black.

Puella Magi Madoka Magica stands out in recent memory. It avoided being sappy while still being bittersweet, and it answers most of the questions without spoon-feeding it to the audience.

I just finished watching Gunslinger Girl. Though the ending was a bit sad, I loved it.

Apparently there is also a second season, but I'm not sure if it's as good as the first.
The only similarities the first has to second is the setting, the characters and the general idea (little girls murdering terrorists). Otherwise, it's pretty different: new art style, different music, more a focus on the fights and new characters. I think they even switched the voice actors in the dub (which is still pretty good).

Honestly, I liked the second one a little more than the first, since they gave the terrorists faces and names and backstories. However, the ending isn't that good. It's not bad, just so overwhelmingly mediocre.

Holy fucking shit.

You mean it isn't 2 episodes of text splashes over a screen that hardly references the harrowing events from the episode just before them, and has the lamest, most pointless philosophic bullshit?

Might have to watch that.

It better be good enough to make up for that clusterfuck. Doesn't have to be perfect. But at least a lot of closure.
