Thankfully we're past that dangerous part of summer down in Victoria.
Sorry to hear about that. Good to know that you're aware about it though.

Most of the deaths that happened on Black Saturday happened because no-one knew there was a bushfire.
This attitude annoys me, we all knew something bad was coming, we just didn't take it seriously, so when the worst did happen, the good folks at the CFA, (of which I am a member) were crucified for not warning people who refused to listen.

We have learned from black saturday, yes, but we have learned to take warnings seriously, nothing more.

Let 'em burn I say; fire cleanses the land so that life may come anew. Seems we forgot that here in the U.S. and have just been letting all the underbrush build up over the last half a century... then the retards get surprised when their houses burn down even after they built them right in the middle of fucking matchstick forests.

That entire place seems like the battlesite for an Avatar: The Last Airbender. Half of it is flooded, the other half in flames... plus cyclones.

I second the virgin sacrifice. Heck, I'll send one over if you need it. At least Australians are tough and not many lives have been lost.

Now I have to check on some friends living there...

Tell me about it, being an SES -and- CFA (vic) volunteer I haven't had a break for about 3 months, QLD, Kerang, Swan Hill, Melbourne, Wodonga, Mildura, been to each of them and I don't even get paid (in money or respect) for doing it

Really? People disrespect volunteer emergency workers? That's a particularly idiotic new low.

People tend to ignore their warnings and recommendations, but then plead for help and throw blame at them when the shit hits the fan.

We call them "women" here. Be respectful.

The volunteer fire fighters can't leave their stuff unattended, or else people in the neighbourhoods they are trying to save tend to nick it. Admittedly, though, it might only be one or two people in a town of umpteen thousand, but still...

...

Also, it helps that Australia has a continent to itself. Plenty of room for simulaneous floods, droughts and fires. Distance between flood zones and fires is roughly the same as between Italy and Scotland.

Bushfires are ravaging my suburb of Roleystone, and the neighbouring suburb of Kelmscott, in Perth, Western Australia. They were sparked early yesterday, have burned right throughout the night, and are still going strong. As of this time, more than 40 houses have been razed to the ground, almost 20 more are badly damaged, and the fires are still out of control.

I was staying at my Dad's last night, but have since moved back home to be with the rest of my family... we've been officially alerted and told to prepare to evacuate if necessary though, as the winds are still unpredictable as hell, and the fire is moving North on the Roleystone front. Many people south of us were told that it was actually too late to leave their homes, and that they had no choice but to remain where they were and defend their property. Hundreds of others have been evacuated already, and SES crews and firefighters have been brought in from around the state. The area has been declared a natural disaster zone. Other fires are burning elsewhere in the state, but I don't know too much about them.

Floods, cyclones, bushfires... God's gotta be taking the piss.

I want you to know that we all care about you and indeed Australia.
You took it all like real people, no whinging and asking for help.
Proper Proper people.

However i am saddened about the constant battering of your beautiful country.
I mean it shouldn't go on this long and be this frequent, needs to be spread out a little.
Keep your chin up, we all support you Australia.

I liev in Perth, in the northern suburbs. We haven't been affected by the fires, but you can smell the smoke in the air.
Also, I wonder if these fires have anything to do with Chinese new years, hmm...

EVERY STATE IS GETTING SHIT APPARENTLY

I'm currently on exchange in France, but my heart goes out, or whatever. I'm a Sydneysider, so all my family has to fear is a heatwave. Not really that great a deal, but seriously our weather right now.

REMEMBER THAT GLOBAL WARMING THING GUYS

It seems that the planet is the first five minutes into The Day After Tomorrow.

Well, I only really wanted to put out the word, though I doubt most non-Australians have ever even heard of Perth.

But feel free to tell your own stories.
Been to Perth...In January...suffice to say, I nearly died of heat stroke! Damn your seasons for being strange?!

Seriously, our country is so screwed. Hope everything works out ok :(

Also, it annoys me how there's been so much media coverage of the floods and cyclone but next to nothing about these fires. Typical, if it doesn't happen on the east coast it's no big deal.

I know right? Part of us was in drought (or 99% of us anyway), part of us is on fire at on time or another, another part is flooded and now a cyclone has torn through us and destroyed the Bananas. Again.

Not to mention the bloody heat wave Sydney just got through.

Southern hemisphere champ.

OT: Mate, I went through the crazy 2003 Canberra bushfires, so I know what you're going through. Fires were literally 150 metres from our house, with only dry bush between us. Worst option.

Luckily, the fires have been contained for the most part, and don't look likely to cause much more property damage.

It was a near-miss for me... plenty of my mates weren't so lucky.

IT'S FUNNY BECAUSE THAT'S ACTUALLY HOW EUCALYPTS (stop trying to correct me, computer, I spelt that right) REPRODUCE

Other than that, was that a symbolic statement, or are you literally just commentating on how people should clean away underbrush?

BECAUSE IT SOUNDS REALLY INSENSITIVE FROM OVER HERE

LOL I TROL U

OT: Yeah, it is a bit typical that us Eastern kiddies get more attention, but mind that the floods and cyclone (fndmlangdlkanklgad plural singular SO UNCOMFORTABLE) aren't getting much international attention either...

Must... resist... starting... flamewar...

so punny

I'm a troll? Also, right now they aren't getting international attention but when the floods were at their worst a lot of other coutries were hearing about it.
