The question is in the title, what aspects of video gaming really annoy you?
By this I mean things in gaming that are a result of the games design rather than a glitch.

So I will get the ball rolling, one of my pet peeves in gaming is unlocking for the sake of unlocking, as seen in modern warfare 2 where you have to unlock all the weapons and unlock the clip ons seperately for every single gun and don't forget tekken 5 where you have to spend money so you can have the exact same clothes but in black.

What annoys you in the world of gaming?

Well, recycled threads for one.

People who console-war

And games being difficult because of bad design as opposed to actual challenge

I hate how getting a pre-order or limited edition gives you overpowed shit. It's fine if it's single player or a skin but extra shields, alt fire, extra weapons....btw I'm looking at you Bad Company 2. Seriously go to Gamestop.com and look up the limited edition..rediculous.

Those portions in the game where, despite the amount of good guys you have with you, they decide to send you in alone to take care of something. Best example - Half Life 2:

"Hey Gordon, you're wearing that HEV suit - why don't you go ahead and take care of that cluster-fuck of enemies while we sit here. Don't worry, we'll lock the door behind you".

Whenever you are forced to do something that is completley pointless.

For example, in Geist you have to rescue your friend James. Only about an hour after rescuing him, he gets killed in a helicopter crash. Since he does nothing to aid you, and in fact only hinders you as you have to solve a few puzzles to help him get past some guards, rescuing him was just a massive waste of time. I was actually stunned when I learned that James really was dead. Why have me rescue him from evil scientists and man-eating snails if you're just going to kill him before he can contribute anything useful? Though he was hardly a likable character, so seeing him go down in a burning helicopter was somewhat humorous.

Less amusing is Colette constantly being kidnapped in Tales of Symphonia. This happens so often that rescuing her feels pointless.

Throughout the entire game your trying to prevent the big bad from using her body as a vessel for his dead sister, but near the end of the game he succeeds in doing so. So essentially all of your effort to stop this from happening was pointless.

When people around me talk during cutscenes.

When a game is too visually dark

When the subtitles are too small (Fuck you AC2!)

I hate it when you're forced to play as the character you never leveled up... like:

the fucking Barret vs Dyne fight in Final Fantasy VII, I had no materia and I hadn't bothered to give him his latest gear. I just didn't used him.

Other than that, when there's a really big build up to a character who turns out to have a really sucky 'boss fight' (here's looking at you, Arkham Asylum)

You can unlock them at a later stage with the normal game and i doubt that the extra guns will be overpowered, the coaxail machine gun might be though.

OT: DLC, dev's who release the game and intentionally leave out content (which in some cases is already on the disk) to charge for at a later date. I can almost guarantee that the COD6 DLC will be maps from the campaign (like the oil rig etc.).

But they're just so funny!

For me:
-Pop-up notifications that stop the game to tell you how to do things. Bonus points if they can only be closed with the start button or cannot be disabled.
-In-engine cutscenes that cannot be skipped and occur after vital saves.

Games being too dark visually
When games don't quick save
Fanboy's
People who are like: "I don't like [insert popular game here] because everyone else does WAH WAH WAH".
No health-bars
Shoddy net-coding
Unbalanced game design
No slit-screen multiplayer
Escort missions
When a good idea gets wasted

There's definitely more

Glitches that occur at really important parts of the game, especially when you forget to save.

When a game gets to a point where the strategy to beat it doesn't require thought and work, but rather when it simply becomes a matter of move from here to here and press button x with precise timing to advance. Too many arcade games are like this in my view.

quick time sequences. I mean, you might as well have an actual cutscene showing the action. Having to repeat a section just because you pushed X instead of Y breaks any sense of immersion.

Also, unskippable cutscenes, and games without subtitles.
