A very sad start to the new year. I recall seeing him in many different films, not all of them good films, but regardless of the quality Pete Postlethwaite's characters were always the ones I could never hate. RIP.

Point of favourite though, have to be him as the hunter Roland Tembo in The Lost World: Jurassic Park.

Agreed, it's a very sad start to the new year. Hopefully we won't see as many celebrity deaths as 2010.

Damn. The man was a fantastic character actor. His performance as Kobayashi from The Usual Suspects was spectacular. He will be missed.

Wait, what? Was this expected or unexpected? I haven't heard of him being sick. I read the BBC report but couldn't find anything of it.

A great loss it is. Bad way to start a new year.

... I thought this thread would be an appreciation thread for an underrated actor who instilled class and professionalism into supporting characters for so long, full of fun and giggles

I did not expect to have to read news of his death :(

I just saw Inception a few weeks ago and thought "Man, he really isn't in enough movies".

I just read about this on Facebook... really sad... Like the OP, I thought his character was always very likable in the films he was in, even if the film wasn't all that good.
And my dad liked him a lot too, which is strange because my dad barely ever watches TV or movies...

Oh my. Oh thats so sad. I was only just watching one of his films. Not a good way to start the year. What a pity.

Yeah, just read the news on my mail site.

Cancer claims another one... a damn shame. Seeing how Dragonheart is one of my favorite movies of all time, I'll always remember Mr Postlethwaite as Brother Gilbert, that bumbling, poetic priest with a knack for archery.
Actually, I think I'll watch that movie tonight.

Rest in peace, Pete.

He and Charles S. Dutton made Alien 3 worth watching and are the only reasons I refuse to call it a bad movie.

This article has a bit more on his illness. Also has an awesome pic of the man himself (at the bottom).

I read about his death on CNN only moments ago. I thought it was just another actor who had fallen into obscurity until I realized that he had played the dying father in Inception. Sad.

Noooooo. Also, holy crap a 22 year battle with ball cancer. Harsh. I will miss his presence in films and on TV :(
