Okay, I'm good with the quotation, but let's not misattribute it. The correct quotation is "It's easier to ask forgiveness than it is to get permission" and it's usually attributed to Grace HopperSyc1 said:

My interpretation of the butterfly effect- Whatever you manage to accomplish intentionally in your lifetime will always be dwarfed by what you do by accident.
About the optimism/pessimism, has anyone else seen Pan's Labrynth? Aside from being an awesome movie, it really reveals something about your character. There is an ending that can be taken two ways, depending on your nature. The magical, happy ending, or the brutal, more logical ending.
