not scared, but saddened that my cousin, who I haven't seen in like 4 years, phoned. I piked it up and said:

Hello
>who is this?
Who's calling?
>who is this?
Oh, hi $%^&*.
>who are you?
Erm, It's me, Joe.
>Who? I want to speak to aunty &"%^$&*@# now!
okay then...
You family has really rude names >.>

OT: Never had any, really.
I hope you really know why I've done that, but its because my mum gets scared of strangers accessing her details and my cousin is in Yr 3, in America.
Yeah. I knew, but it was too good to pass up. Plus it gets a lot funnier if one adds in swear words there. Though I admit, the first time I read the hidden name I thought you were just swearing at him randomly. Then I figured it out.
I have relatives like that as well. It's really paranoid of them I think >.>

At least once a week in High School: "Brian, this is Dad. Come home right now."

Was always scared I got caught drinking or something. And it was always something stupid like dinner or I forgot to close the door. My dad just made it sound so foreboding.

"We've traced the call, it's coming from inside the house! GET OUT!" But it was too late...

Me and my friends once had a night of calling up karaoke bars and singing the Pokemon theme tune. I bet it was scary once we started yelling at eachother for getting the lines wrong or bursting out into laughter, after showing such a desire for our group to show them what we've got over the the phone.

I once had a one-night stand with a girl. The guy she cheated on got a hold of my (unlisted) number, called it, and said "Dude, man-to-man, you know she's got a bunch of STDs, right? Seriously, get yourself tested, because she gave that shit to me too."

Now, I had a feeling the guy was bluffing (jilted lover and all), but that was a SCARY day at the clinic, followed by a profound sense of relief when all the tests came back negative. And even worse was getting an HIV test six months later and thinking "this disease takes a while to show up on tests, right? What if that girl from...nah..." and having the same mortal terror followed by sweet relief when that test came back negative.
You didn't use a johnny? o_O

I wouldn't say I was scared, maybe a little creeped out, but I never give out my cell phone number. One day I got a phone call from a number I didn't know and it was some woman speaking Chinese. Couldn't understand her at all so hung up, how did she even get my phone number?

Yeah (might be a Brits-only phrase).

not so much scary as just incredibly bizarre and infuriating...

at work, we've been getting these really strange telemarketing calls for about the past 8 months or so. guys will call up and give a name and maybe even a business name (though it's never a business name that gives ANY clue what their business actually does) and they'll ask for the boss. there's only 3 of us here, including the boss, and he doesn't take phone calls unless he knows the person; and we're a small enough company and we've all been here long enough that we know who he knows. so, we get to play gatekeeper. when we ask what the call is concerning, all they'll say is "It's concerning me needing to talk to <my boss's name>." when we continue to pry, trying to get a REAL answer, they get insulting and even start cussing at us.

the thing that i find so strange is, how do these guys think cussing and insulting us is going to help their position? all we're gonna do is tell them to f*** off and then hang up, maybe try to *69 them and report them to their bosses if we can. baffling. seriously, baffling. kinda like an elf warrior with robot boots.

I'm not good with phones at all. I'm scared to dial. Always thinking I will fuck up. I never do and I'm getting better. Anyway over happy tele marketer. He sounded too happy, even when I wasn't intrested. It was short and unsatisfying felt weird for the rest of the day.

When I was with my ex, some guy in his 40s -I think- rang me and told me if I didn't break up with him he "was going to pay me a visit" and get me put into care and get him arrested. I said, "Who the fuck are you, threatening a 15 year old girl?" and hung up. He rang back, I gave the phone to my mum and she told him to fuck off and she was calling the police. I was jumpy and twitchy all day, I kept anything that could be used as a weapon near me for a while.

Another time, some bullies at school got hold of my number and rang me up to abuse me. I recorded it and got them suspended from school.

Oh, and another time I got 3 voice mails from some woman who was saying things like, "I'm gonna find me a real man, you're not a real man, you're useless."
I gave her a ring and said, "Uhm... You do know I'm a 10 year old girl, right? Don't ring this number again."
Creepy.

Actually a month or so ago, a friend of mine called my phone. Except I didn't know it was her (Hadn't added her number at the time), so it was weird hearing somebody who I've only spoken to seldom irl call and talk to me about all these personal things. And I didn't want to ask who it was at first.
So yeah, that was creepy until I found out. xD

I don't get it. Why is that scary?
People are scared by different things and by different instances, it was just really strange the tone of voice the lady was using, like she personally knew me.
So she was trying to sell you something.
You should be scared because tomorrow they're going to break into your house while you're sleeping to try to sell you the same thing!

[HEADING=1]MUWAHAHAHAHA!!![/HEADING]
But I don't have any money... Am I going to have to work in a coal mine now?!?!?!?
Yes. And not the fun Minecraft version either...

Somebody once left a message on my home phone (which was picked up by my mother, increasing the horrible) saying they were going to have sex with my children in a public bathroom. I don't have children. I was thirteen at the time. But the guys clearly knew me and my family, referencing a housekeeper we had at the time, and then turned around and said they were a guy I knew (he was a friend of mine but he was convinced I was in love with him and wouldn't leave me the hell alone) and said all kinds of... stuff. Sexual stuff. Worst phone call I ever got, actually. In my life. And I never figured out who it was or how they got my number.

yes coz a johnny is 100% effective in preventing such things...
Pretty much man yes as long as it remains intact it is nigh on 100% as most transmit through bodily fluids and the condom stops them.
Deal with it.
And my rushed explanation.

Got a call from my brother, and the call suddenly cut out and what sounded like him swearing- I knew he was driving so I was practically convinced he had crashed or something else had horribly happened. Eventually called me back,

"sorry, phone died- so anyway... etc"
Extreme Fear and then Extreme Relief

I answered one that was intended for my brother. They kept mentioning him and shouting that they would come round to attack him. I was alone in the house so I decided to see what I could use as a weapon in such an event. The first thing I did was boil the kettle. 'Cause if they want to play wth fire, they're going to get burned.
Nothing ever happened and I was strangely dissapointed, as I was sure I would have the homefield advantage.
