Yea, its 42.003093778495535598245542034447.

You can't make pi a whole number in base ten.
You can if you use fractions. :p It's also possible to divide and then multiply it and produce an integer (IIRC)

Yeah that is pretty sweet, but I have another one for you.

1/3 is equal to .3 repeating.
2/3 is equal to .6 repeating.
3/3 is equal to 1 right? Not quite.
The difference between 1/3 and 2/3, and 2/3 and 3/3 is 1/3.

By this ^ logic it makes sense that 3/3 would be 1. However:

The difference between .3 repeating and .6 repeating is .3 repeating, or 1/3 -> the same as above.
The difference between .6 repeating and 1 is .4 repeating, not 1/3 -> not the same as above. If it were to follow the same rule, as it should, 3/3 would be .9 repeating, which is not 1. It is infinitely close to 1 but not 1.

EDIT: Fuckin' ninja'd, twice. I quit at life.
0.(6) +0.(4) does NOT equal 1
66 + 44 =110
0.66+ 0.44= 1.1
and examples go on
[and as stated apove 0.66666.... = 0.(6) ]

0.(4) + 0.(6) =/= 1
44+66 =110
0.444+ 0.666 = 1.11
and so on.
and when a number isn't EXACT you can't do math with it.
1/3 is an exact number but 0.(3) [or .3 repeating or 0.333333.... } isn't and you just use it as a rezult or for aproximate answers.
and as i said before. it is common knowledge in math that 0.(9) = 1
1= 1/3 + 2/3 = 0.(3) + 0.(6) = 0.(9)
stupid accidental double post....

haha, yes, I love that line. It inspires me everyday.
Ah, now I wasn't sure just how many people would get that but as it turns out a fair amount did.

Think about this. (nerd science incoming)

All materials condense when they get colder, becoming more dense and sinking. This is especially true when they change state, say from liquid to solid.

EXCEPT WATER! Ice is the ONLY thing that actually expands and floats when it freezes.

The really freaky part? If this wasn't true then life as we know it would not exist! (water frozen in winter would sink and not be thawed by the summer sun, eventually causing all water to freeze)

So just remember: you wouldn't be alive except for one tiny little middle finger to thermal dynamics.
Have you read 'A Short History of Nearly Everything'? Or did you just so happen to phrase it very similarly?

Infinity divided by 2 is 0 because theoretically there are infinite positive and negative numbers so the the very center is 0.
Infinity divided by 2 is infinity - infinity is immune to simple manipulations. Infinity is more powerful than 2 can possibly imagine.

I find your lack of math disturbing.
Successful nerdbait is successful.

Yep, that's where I found this out.

Later I went out and found why and that other things display this tendency as well, but this really seemed like the best way to phrase it.

holy fucking christ that is awesome.

I learned this in advanced physics the other day:

As long as an object has a mass, it has a gravitational force. There's always a force pulling other nearby objects towards it. So if you sit beside someone else, you two are gravitating towards each other, technically. These forces exist for every object ever but are damn near impossible to notice unless it's two HUGE masses, such as planets.

In my class, we worked out the gravitational attraction between ourselves and the people we were working with. It was strange. :)

Think about this:

Hydrogen - highly flammable
Oxygen - Highly flammable

Mix them = Water.

Water - Cannot be set alight.

It's weird!!!!

the last time this thread came up, i said "you cant multiply a number with infinite decimal places, and get a whole number"

the reply i got was "if you divided 1 by pi, that number would have infinite decimal places, but if you multiplied that number by pi, it would be whole again"

which is prfectly true, so the logic works in theory, but in practice, you cant multiply an already-existant number with infinate decimal places to create a whole number, because the decimal places go on forever, just as 3.33333... can never truely make 10 when multiplied by 3.

*nerd session terminated*

guys you're complicating the situation :p
1= 1/3 + 2/3 = 0.(3) + 0.(6) = 0.(9) = 9/9 =1
0.(3)=0.33333333333...
simple algebra :)
oh and btw: you can't do math without the entire number (like you used 0.999...)
That is why I used an acceptable math notation. I indicated a trend of repetition and the trailing elipses tells the reader that it carries on in this way forever. I even pointed that out in the very post you quoted for those where not familiar with this notational convention.

Okay.

Pick a 3 digit number.

Write it out twice, so if you picked 471, you write 471,471.

Divide that number by 7, then divide the answer by 11, then divide that by 13.

Alternatively, multiply your three digit number by 7, then the answer by 11, then 13, 101 and 9901.
Thus you made about 90% of people use 471 making this whole thing insignificant ;P.
Nice trick though ;).
nope, i picked 512 and it worked
I know. It's just that a lot of people will choose 471 and go "oh I guess it only works for that number meh" xp.
It's hard to tell what I was trying to tell just in emotionless text :p

Hmm. Interesting way to break down 1,001 and 1,001,001,001---numbers which have properties that mesh very well with three-digit numbers. Multiply it by 1,001,001,001,001,001,001...and you can get the sequence to repeat as often as you'd like.

In other news, my mind was blown today when a girl I've met on campus exactly twice recognized me and smiled at me when I chanced across her again today. If I see her one more time I'm asking her out for coffee.
