Ah games how far we have come. From Pong to Pitfall to Sonic to Metal Gear Solid. Out of your collection of games, what would you consider your piece of gaming history? If you dont have anything from the past, what would you consider a game from your current line up that will be part of gaming history sometime down the line? For me its Mortal Komabt II for the PC. I have it on the floppy disks that it came with since the day it came out.

I own Beatmania for the ps2. I think it will go down in history for being a precurser to rock band. Its also a really tough game. But I love it.

Sadly I sold all of my Amiga and Speccy games when I sold the hardware, so no really old history there, but I still have loads of old PS1 games (they have 0 value on a trade in so I kept them). These include MicroMachines, the very original Worms and Skull Monkeys. Classic.

Thanks for rekindling fond memories of micro machines. When I was fourteen I sold my entire car collection to a neighbor and I'll always regret it. All I saved was my james bond micro machines becuase I collect all things 007.

I have two NES cartridges which are half the size of an ordinary NES game. They plug into another half-cartridge to make them playable but on these devices are twenty NES games. I didn't think much of it when I was a kid but the shoddy production quality and inexplicable art leads me to believe it was an early version of video game copying.

Another prized artifact is a copy of Myst for Windows 3.1, one of the first PC games I played and one that introduced me to the idea of great art and imagery as part of a video game.

I just remembered something REALLY old that I have. It's so old that I didn't want to put it as an edit as it warrants it own post. I think this is one of the very first western instances of Mario from back in the old LCD days. I'll look for a link....

Ha!

For me it is probably E.T. on the Atari, the history being Worst Game Ever!

:O Wow, a game&watch! I had one of those, but I sadly don't know where it is now.

I think the one piece of history in my collection that's left would be Tetris on the original Gameboy.

TimeSplitters 2, Starcraft, Half Life 2 and Metal Gear Solid are all games I own that have redefined or at least revamped their genre. I have others, but I'm a lazy guy.

I lost my old Game & Watch long ago... it's too bad, I bet I can't buy one for less than a hundred dollars these days... those things are practically antiques. Even though it was actually just a rerelease, it was still great.

Halo 1 certainly had an impact on gaming at large, but mostly the FPS genre.

I got the Myst series for PC, pretty big games of the 90s and 00s. Pokemon Red and my Dreamcast also are quite good (still working :D) pieces of history.
