Of course from my knowledge of school shootings, which is almost none, aren't handguns usually used? The most infamous school shooting, columbine, was done by hand guns (I think).

I dont agree with them personally, im just playing devils advocate. I dont see how anything beyond a handgun or a knife for self defence is helpful. Anyway, surely body armour is the best thing you could get for self defence.
I mean dont get me wrong, i would love to own a bazooka but I acknowledge that a world where compulsive manic depressive types like me are allowed to own bazookas is not going to be a very pretty one.
However, a scoped semi automatic rifle is probably going to be the best thing for hunting deer and suchlike.
Its just going to be about achieving a compromise between personal freedoms and the general safety of the populace
