well yeah, there's the thing with the skull, also in Gen 1 (and remakes) Team Rocket is said to have killed a Marowak, you battle her ghost. also, Charmander and evos are said to die when their flames go out. and yes, pokemon do leave corpses, they're buried at pokemon tower, remember? although i'd imagine ghost types and pokemon like Koffing do just poof away

man when you think about it pokemon heroes has some messed up shit in it because its shown that latios and latias are brother and sister and he in the end dies protecting the city from a giant machine thing and then during the happy end bit they show latias flying by with baby latias and latios in tow... so eather she did it with her own brother or someone in that town likes bestiality

ewwww...
nooo! legendaries don't breed (least of all within families) most likely latios' residual energy just congregated and manifested itself into several younger latios. simple when you think about it :D also, it's likely that Latios and Latias are just very close friends who have a brother-sister relationship (hence the no breeding thing)

There's a perfectly reasonable explanation for this after the jump: http://awkwardzombie.com/index.php?page=0&comic=101110

actually interspark there have been plenty of instances of baby legandarys in the anime and games now

its believed the no breeding thing is just put in the games to prevent a flood of legandarys from breaking the games and the GTS really

Yeah, like everyone says, there's a pokemon graveyard in Lavender Town, but you never actually get to see a pokemon die.

Also, am I the only one who was never bothered by Lavender Town when I was younger?

"In the original Pokémon Red/Blue, when you encounter your rival in Lavender Town he asks whether or not you know what it?s like to have one of your Pokémon die. At this point in the game, he no longer has his Raticate that he used in previous battles. Your rival battle before this took place aboard the S.S. Anne. Your rival?s Raticate sustained serious injuries from the battle? but, because crowding and confusion on the luxury liner, he was unable to make it to a Pokémon Center in time and the Raticate passed away. The real reason your rival is in Lavender Town to begin with is to lay his deceased friend to rest.

Despite all of this, your rival never outwardly tells you that you?re responsible for the death of his Pokémon. He hides his grief and instead channels that energy into the motivation he needed to continue his quest to become Indigo League Champion. The death of his Raticate effectively destroys your rival?s impish, childhood innocence. Although he tells himself that he doesn?t hold you responsible, he subconsciously holds a great deal of resentment towards you which further fuels his ambitions. Tearfully swearing upon his Raticate?s grave to not fail in what he set out to do, he trains hard in hopes of becoming better than you? defeating you? and to eventually make it to the Pokémon League.

Mere moments after he became Indigo League champion, he was defeated? by you. Although he fulfilled his promise to his fallen Pokémon, it was only for a painfully brief instant. In the end, your rival is scolded by his grandfather while you receive the professor?s praise. During the course of the game, you steal your rival?s innocence, crush his dreams, and ultimately snatch away the love of his own grandfather. Oh, and by the way, your rival doesn?t have any parents. He?s an orphan."

Also, when you fight your rival, on the SS Anne, I believe, he has a Raticate that he uses in battle, obviously you kick his ass to progress the story. Later he tells you about how he couldn't get his Raticate to the Pokemon Center in time, he doesn't say that it died, but you can guess as much.
Alright, this really needs to end because it seems some people are actually believing it and spreading misinformation. Raticate doesn't die, Gary puts in in his box (or releases it, or trades it) in favor of arcanine. This is likely because raticate is weak in the late game and we all know that at this point, all blue cares about is a pokemon's power.

In some of the versions of the story it is mentioned that Blue says to red that he couldn't get raticate to the pokemon center in time. This conversation never happens. Here is a rough transcript of your time with blue when you meet him in lavander town's pokemon tower:

Blue before the fight: Hey, red! What brings you here, your pokemon don?t look dead. I can at least make them faint! Let?s go pal!

Blue after the fight: What? You stinker. I took it easy on you too. How?s your pokedex coming pal? I just caught a cubone I can?t find the grown up marrowak yet, I doubt that there are any left. Well, I better get going, I?ve got a lot to accomplish pal! Smell ya later!
He never even mentions his raticate again.

There is one more bit of logic to throw into the story. It is said that the reason raticate died is because Gary couldn't get to a pokemon center fast enough. If this is true, why didn't his entire team die? In the game, pokemon in a party are all healed at once. If raticate didn't make it in time, his other party members didn't.

There are plenty of things to insist that pokemon die. The story of cubones skull, Ghost type pokemon, fossils, the marrowak ghost you find in the pokemon tower, but this story isn't one of them.

Mostly because I'm bored

Yes they do die. How do you think ghost pokemon come to be?

Plus there's the graveyard in Lavender Town.

Pokemon are animals, magical wierd little creatures, but animals nonetheless. They die from old age and sustaining serious injuries. In the original games (before the series got toned down) Team Rocket mistreated and killed Pokemon, it's suggested at least.

In the anime Pokemon also die, though it's subtle. Ash releases his Butterfree to the wild so it can breed, and it is implied that Butterfree will die afterwards. Fly across the ocean so it can lay eggs or something (been a long time since I saw the particualar episode, but I remember almost crying as I child when it flew off into the sunset...never to be seen again)

Actually I remember a comic series that starred Red actually had Pokemon killing each other in fights. It was crazy. Charmeleon sliced off Arbok's head.

Otherwise in the regular canon, no. They faint, and then don't wake up until you take them to a hospital.

In the TV show they just needed to be in a pokeball and they would heal.

Well they can, the biggest hint I ever saw was as a Kid I remember watching the early episodes of the original series and I remember them saying in the Pokedex that a Charmander will die if it's tail is extinguished. Also, I think that Pokemon is due for a genocide (OMG CONTROVERSY). But my reasoning is this...there will always be...only 151 TRUE Pokemon(Mew included). Now there are so many Pokemon that I can't even recognize or name any of them. I used to be able to name all 151, now I can't even name half of them. After the...umm...Jhoto? league I stopped even trying. I only recognize like 20% of the 'Pokemon Ruby, Saphire, and Emerald' games. (I haven't even SEEN a single one from the new 'Black and White' games yet.

Edit: I can only PRAY that they will stop one day, they've already created a Pokemon for literally EVERY SINGLE SUBJECT...except for War, Famine, Pestilence, and Death (Prolly have or will). Geez, they've even done Time and Space, and I think God at one point XD

Geez, I removed the text because there was a lot of it and instead of writing boring "snip" I wrote something else.
This isn't supposed to be some super serious pokemon thread searching for the deeper meaning of the games or something. Relax, don't be so obnoxious. -.-

OT: I assume they die, yes, as there is a cemetery in Lavender Town, isn't there?
More of a tower than a traditional cemetary, but if we're not splitting hairs, you are correct.
