Piracy is a crime. Period. No amount of excuses changes that fact.

If you pirate, you are a criminal.

If you pirate, leave this site - we don't want you.
You do realise that you are infringing someone's (A Japanese gentleman I assume) copyright with your avatar. You evil criminal pirate.

I apologise in advance if you made it yourself but tineye [http://www.tineye.com/search/0b54919a456698b91309a0d4a50149db2873c109/] leads me to believe you didn't.

For what it's worth i support the intention behind your words ^^ Of course now those who pirate are gonna get defensive about their leeching of something that is completely superfluous and unnecessary to their livelihood and make up all sorts of excuses for their lack of self control.

but what do you care, you're obviously so well off that you can afford anything you want, so I don't particularly care about you. (rich people piss me off)
I havent' replied to what you said as I really don't wanna get into a net fight with ya, but i disagree/found something wrong with just about every statement you made.
I found this one in particular very...revealing.

It's not about being rich and buying what you want, it's simple accepting you can't get everything you'd like and as these are not necessary to your life, these are called luxuries.
You don't NEED the products you pirate, you're just being self indulgent.

No. I didn't pirate that picture. Thank you.
I just assumed, without caring the slightest about manga or anime, it was from Spice and Wolf (Okami to koshinryo) but I didn't realise I was in the presence of Takeo Takahashi or whoever own the rights to the show and character.
Guess I'm not quite the internet detective I thought I was. I apologise again.

You should probably look up the word. Less you wish to continue to portray yourself as this much of an idiot.
What word? Please tell me why I'm portraying myself as an idiot? My bullshit detector went off on your post. I looked up your avatar and saw it was named something-horo-something on other sites, typed in "horo" in a google image search and got a lot of picture with a lady not quite unlike a fox(like your avatar) and went to a few of the sites and saw the name Spice and Wolf. Got the directors name from imdb. It's an easy mistake to make.

Look up the word 'piracy' (don't use Wikipedia. God knows you probably do) and the words 'fair use'. Then, realize that my avatar was taken from an artwork released by the owner of the rights as a wallpaper.

Here's hoping you can't vote.
First off all wikipedia is a lot better than most other sites but for your sake I used Encyclopaedia Britannica for this.

Piracy (maritime law) "any robbery or other violent action, for private ends and without authorization by public authority, committed on the seas or in the air outside the normal jurisdiction of any state. Because piracy has been regarded as an offense against the law of nations, the public vessels of any state have been permitted to seize a pirate ship, to bring it into port, to try the crew (regardless of their nationality or domicile), and, if they are found guilty, to punish them and to confiscate the ship."

Piracy (Crime) pretty much says "see copyright", but here is what it says. "act of illegally reproducing or disseminating copyrighted material, such as computer programs, books, music, and films. Although any form of copyright infringement can and has been referred to as piracy, this article focuses on using computers to make digital copies of works for distribution over the Internet.".

Fair use doctrine in copyright law does allow "... the moderate use of copyrighted materials for purposes such as education, news reporting, criticism, parody, and even (in some contexts) home consumption...". I would argue that since you aren't writing an article on the character or show, satirising the same or anything relevant to your profession as a journalist/teacher you are indeed guilty of copyright infringement. Leave it as your background and come up with your own stuff if you want to act superior.

I doubt wikipedia would have said anything different, the article would just have been longer and more informative.

And yes I'm obviously able to vote. Not in Australia though so don't worry. And stop being condescending to the people you debate with, it won't impress anyone and only make you look like a tit.

Oh, I'm sorry, I suppose one doesn't need to be happy to live. Hi, I'm suicidal, I have really big bouts of depression, and every pill I've ever been on has only made it worse. I'm 19, have no job, live in the middle of nowhere, can not drive, and have just recently begun to learn how to play guitar on an old hand-me-down acoustic using a book I *gasp* "stole" from the internet. See, these few things that I do have, pirated or purchased from a store, are minor reprieves from the horrible sadness that is my life. By saying I should be arrested for "taking/stealing" these things you are essentially saying I should give in to the thoughts that plague me every few weeks and just kill myself. Now how will you respond?
Soz for late reply, am answering between sc2 games (bought btw)

Lmao that's cute. I'd share my own sob story but doubt you would be interested in it.
Again, don't wanna get embroiled in a net argument when it's so obvious your mind is set but i'l humor you: none of what you say are reasons, just justifications and at best, emotive arguments (my life is hard so i deserve something for free!).
Srsly, crapiness of my life>crapiness of yours but i don't use it as a reason to justify anything other then my own fail.

Last time i'll respond, there is no possible discussion between us. I just wanted to state that just about all you said is flawed. Ideally i'd find the time to analyze and deconstruct everything that's wrong about what you said, sentence by sentence, but it isn't worth effort, i hope others will do so in my place.
