So what it's been four years since 'Life 2' was released. It was six years between 'Half Life 1' and 'Half Life 2'. I can't be the only one who remembers that.

You're on which planet?
Half-Life 2 was just over seven years ago.

Episode 2 may have been four years, yes... but the whole idea of episodic development is smaller games being released more frequently - whereas, to paraphrase Yahtzee, Valve's idea of episodic seems to be "smaller games being released"... and in all honesty not even the last half of that is true. Certainly to have heard nothing definitive even about its existence after a cliffhanger of that magnitude...

Unless Valve do turn round and say something it's safe to say that this has been a massive failure. HL2 topped out at a world beating 13,200 players on line, not even enough to make it in the Top 5 and not a patch on the 6.5million that bought the actual game or the 4million Steam users that were on line at the time. If this was meant to get Valve's attention then it is safe to say that playing the game won't have done it.

Considering it's a 7 year old game 13,000 users shows that people made the effort at least. Valve know how many people bought Half Life 2. There doesn't need to be that many.

Also it's still early in the US, there might be a lot more people planning to play it tonight ;)

Feel like helping out, or just playing some HL2 on Saturday? Head over the Call for Communication (Half-Life) [http://steamcommunity.com/groups/messagetovalve] group on Steam, put your name on the page and get ready to kill for the truth!
As a follow up:

http://steamgraph.net/index.php?action=graph&appid=220

13,216 concurrent players.

None too shabby

I think it wasn't a half bad turn out, i was playing. Only for a hour but still. Got me through nova Prospect and a bit further. and 13,000 is not bad for a first try. I'm pretty sure there will be other things going on. I admit i don't know what but still.

Convenient: I was just playing the Half Life series again and just finished Opposing Force.

Was actually a pretty good turn out, in all honesty. I expected less.

However, I'm frustrated. Not at Valve, or the event, but at myself. I took the event as a reason to attempt getting the last few achievements I had missed in Episode 2. I managed to save every building during the big, final battle.

However, I missed two other achievements.

First, I once again somehow missed two of the three hundred thirty three grubs. I always miss those two.

And secondly, I failed to launch the gnome into space. Don't misunderstand, though. I carried that thing from start to finish. All through the antlion caverns, through the car sections, the chopper chases....all the way to the end. Placed him in the rocket, and went on my way. Happy in the thought, "Ha! Got it. Finally."

Little did I realize that, to actually GET the achievement, you not only have to place him in the rocket....you also have to close the door.

So, because I didn't do that one arbitrary thing, I missed out. Now, this wouldn't have been a big deal, if it weren't for the fact that I had accidentally used the save file closest to that point in the game to save my progress, at several points, during the strider battle. The only other save I had for that playthrough was for a point about mid-way through the antlion caves.

So....yeah. :(

You Half Life fans are the most willing and enthusiastic group of self-trolls out there. It's really incredible how far you're willing to go to jerk yourselves around and I commend you for it. Just try not to start fifty thousand threads on here about how much Valve sucks when this has no effect whatsoever.
