Have any of you guys played Freelancer before?

I really liked the game, and I really wish a similar game would pop up eventually, one day.

Loved it. That and Freespace 2 are my favorite space-sim games.

Speaking of Freespace 2, its on GoG.com for $5.99!

http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/freespace_2

Comes with soundtrack, optimized to run on current operating systems, and no DRM. They also link you to mods which update the look of the game(so it can display well at modern resolutions).

Buy now, beat the rush!

Both those games look really nice, but if I was going to play a game similar to Freelancer, I want it to be more recently made. Thats just a nitpick of mine, I don't really play older games.

Thanks for sharing though :D

I've been the resident fanboy for awhile now if my profile is to be believed.

Short answer... Yes

Long answer... I am not really into space sims, but I spent untold hours playing freelancer. Hell I even picked back up a year ago and installed all the mods I could find (that looked fun) and played through it again. The end of the game still pisses me off though, it really makes me wish for an evil option.

Heh, I never actually got the full game. I just kept playing the demo. Forever. And ever.

Fond memories though.

Hell yeah, that game was amazing, I spent way too much time flying around in it, even though I normally can't stand flying or driving games.

Edit: Oops! Disregard, I thought you were talking about Privateer, which I played the hell out of.

YES OMG YES

I wish I knew of a more modern space sim, with a more 3D layout and possibly actual moving planets and such

That would blow my mind and would force me to sink many hours of my life into it :D

Hopefully something like this pops up one day.

And more of a planetary environment to explore, like, it becomes an RPG when you're on a planet. Also, dialogue trees.

Played it for few hours at my friend, really liked it. It had a sense of freedom.

Nowadays, I play EVE, but maybe I should go look my local gamestore if they have any copies of Freelancer left...

You are really missing out. The full game is fantastic. Although I was once like you, playing the demo over and over XD

Dynamic economy would be nice too. That would make trade missions more difficult and more satisfying when you survived.

I haven't played the first one in...hell, IDK how long.

FL2 is better and I guess that's why.
Fun game.

I tried out EVE once, liked it, hated the subscriptions, and lack of free flight. I enjoyed flying a cruiser though.

I would buy a dozen copies of such a game! Ain't nothin' better than space...

So yes, played Freelancer for >100 hours total, and loved every second of it! Ah, how beautiful the omicron systems were...
To any designer reading this: there most certainly is a market for space sims. NOW GO AND MAKE ONE, OR I'LL LIGHT YOUR CAR ON FIRE!*clears throat* please?
