Skyrim and The Walking Dead, for me. Got Skyrim for Christmas this year, but everyone had stopped talking about it by then, so I couldn't really talk about it with most people. I have only just started playing The Walking Dead this month, and everyone seems to have moved on from that one too.

This happens to me most of the time, actually. I very rarely get games when they are released. I often end up getting them about a year or more later, when everyone has stopped talking about them. :p

I'm so far behind in this regard... the two most recent games I've acquired and finished are Bioshock and the Witcher... the first one.

My motto with games is generally "more than 30 dollars? Not buying" though I do occassionally break it. So actually I have just about never been in time to talk about a game. I am still playing through Mass Effect 3, which I got like a month ago since I saw it was cheap, and wow I wish I was on time with this. It seems really really excellent so far. Haven't got to the dreaded ending yet, but if it is like the rest of the game so far I look forward to it.

No way. I just played link to the past for the first time a month ago. Good game, wasn't it?

OT: The last game I played was the original crash bandicoot. I've had it since I was quite young but this was the first time I'd beaten it. In fact the majority of the games I play are at least a few years old.

As a cheap-ass, it is incredibly rare that I purchase a game first-day. Even when I do purchase a game first-day (see Mass Effect 3), I have a job and other responsibilities so it takes me a long time to actually play through. However, I am now in the situation where I REALLY want to find someone to talk to about a game experience but no one's interested because it's old news :(

My example:
I just played through The Darkness II. Holy amaz-balls, what an excellent game. For those of you who continually ***** about the FPS genre having nothing more than shallow MMS games, be quiet and go play the Darkness and The Darkness II. The voice acting is some of the best I've ever seen in a game and the story gives you the type of gut-punch seen in the more recent examples of "Spec-Ops The Line" and "The Walking Dead". The games are dirt cheap so you have little to lose but some time. Plus, how many other games allow you to Quad-wield weapons!?

So anyway, cheap-ass gamers unite (or maybe just ignorant gamers who let things slip through the cracks for a long time)! What games are you just recently playing that you want to just GUSH about but it's so old that the conversation has moved far past you...
Ah yes I remember being in that boat before I got work, now I buy my games on day one and still don't play it till months later due to lack of time -_-

I use to have all the time in the world and no money, now I got all the money I could want bit no time. Evil life.

My old game that I love that no one talks about (or even really knows existed) is Turok Evolution. That game is just a trip. It's so satisfying to play with the level of over the top gore and awesome weapons.
Is that the one with the Cerebal Bore? That was the game that got me into FPS's....That & the old n64 Soulth Park game, the one where you can piss on the snowballs for the alt fire.

You. I like you. You say stuff that I won't normally say about myself.

I'm a cheap-ass gamer too, and I often wonder which is worse: The type of person that will hack their machine and play nothing but "backups" or someone like me who will wait over six months to get a game for 80% off list price.

I had to listen/read comments about the cake and how much of a lie it was for well over a year until I got Portal for free somehow. I think it was on Steam. Hell, I still haven't played Bulletstorm, and I recently got that for like $15 (PS3). I also just got Binary Domain, even though I have yet to finish Dishonored (got that for peanuts as well).

Next on my list are Far Cry 3 and Spec Ops: The Line. I'm sure the PS4/720 will be out by the time I pick them up.
Make it three, I am also this type too...
That why also I created a "Pay-what-you-want sites" list in one of my Threads:

To search quickly all the sites that have really good offers.
Just for the heck of it, here is the recent list, maybe I will update it later

I haven't quite finished the Darkness 2 just yet, but the main reason I put it down was cuz one of the missions was so touching that I was just like "...wow. that was great" lol

I picked up Sleeping Dogs a few months after its release and have been in love with that game since :D I tell about it to everyone I know in a gaming discussion (or other) but they're just like ok :c

Far Cry 3 is on my to-play list, tho mainly due to time restraints rather than cheapness (okay cheapness too since I just quit my part-time job lol)

I just recently played GTA IV. Its....okay.

Sure, there's thousands of small details that are neat in of themselves, but it doesn't feel like a great game overall. It feels more like a ton of disconnected systems in a giant, open-world box. No care was put into making the overarching feel of the game work, everything handles like a semi-truck made out of butter. Much has been said about the increased emphasis on realism in GTA IV and how it made for a lesser game, I can honestly say that is true. While realism in games is not inherently bad, its one of those things that you either need to go all the way with or drop it entirely. GTA IV occupies that sort of awkward middle ground that leaves it with none of the pros but all of the cons when it comes to realism. A lot of fun can be had with realistic games, but that also requires a firm commitment to it, something that Rockstar didn't have due to their reluctance to stray too far away from the GTA-formula.

However, the game possessed potential for something greater, especially when it came to the writing. Although I felt that the script indulged to much in shallow parody, there were moments where the writing really shone through (one such moment was when the U.L papers guy tells Nico hes been making idiot moves, to which Nico replies: "I'm an idiot. I move"). Parody, again, is one of those things that you need to go all the way with if you're basing the entirety of the script off of, just parodying pop-culture and stereo-types doesn't cut it when that's all you're gonna do. There needs to be a deeper commentary or affection at play for it to work. Also, one thing that bothered me was how Nico Bellic could (for example) take out an entire ambush by the Russian mafia (some 30 guys) and completely save the day while everyone around him fucked off and died, yet still be treated as if he doing a simple task. I mean, why doesn't anyone bat an eye at his near Terminator-levels of badassery or at least treat him accordingly. If you got a guy that is ultra-competent and a convincing stand-in for John McClane, why send him off to do typical mook-stuff?

I've recently been playing through Destroy All Humans! again, although only partially since my Xbox (first one, not a 360) is over a decade old, and the game is partially scratched. But I can tell you when that game first came out, and even somewhat now, that game is freaking amazing.
Yes it is, I bought it a few years ago for PS2 and took it to play at my brother's house because had the PS2. Didn't finish it until eventually I got my own PS2 a year or so ago. While it wasn't exactly what I was expecting of it it was still an excellent game. The second one is pretty much more of the same only on a global scale and the third one was shit because it's only on the Wii and PSP which is sad because I'd have liked to see how the game handled being set in the 80's.

For me the game that I finished well after people were done talking about it was Half-Life 2, I'd been pretty apathetic about the Half-Life series because the first one just didn't do it for me but I really did enjoy the second when I bought it during the 2011-2012 Steam sale so during the last one I bought episodes 1 & 2 that I'll get to eventually.

I only just finished Mass Effect II - there is no way I can gush about the game without someone accidentally spoilering the next one for me. The worst part is my 360 finally packed up and died and I don't plan on getting another console - I might never finish the series D=

The Darkness series is one of my favoritest series around - and like you, I don't usually enjoy FPS'.

I picked up Dark Souls recently, and I'm enjoying it even if I can only bring myself to play in short bursts at this point. It's so atmospheric and I just love how desolate and hopeless you feel. It's certainly different to other games I've played (Yes, I've played Demons' Souls)

On another note, I've recently picked up Battlezone II with the Forgotten Enemies 'expansion' (may as well be) and it's been an absolute blast mixed in with a nostalgia trip =3

Oh I do this all the time. I almost NEVER play a game on launch. In fact, I picked up Borderlands 2 and Torchlight II on launch, played them a bit and... then I just stopped. I'll get back to them later. Damned if I know why.

Right now, I'm actually playing Final Fantasy XII. No, not XIII, XII, as in 12. That's explicable enough at least; I have a backlog of console JRPGs a MILE long to get through and was sick of waiting to play it (I finally cleared Shin Megami Tensei: Digital Devil Saga 2 off my list). It's pretty damn good. I can see why some people have considered it the finest game in the entire series, although I'm still reserving my final judgement. It's been a while since I've sunk my teeth into a nice massive JRPG so this is a fun experience for me.

Can I go for a game I played on release day that still no one talks about? Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time is getting overshadowed by Crap Space 3[footnote]Mock title is because I genuinely do not like Dead Space, not so I can mock its popularity.[/footnote] just a bit heavily...

No? I guess I'll probably go with Fallout: New Vegas. I got to play it shortly before the holidays and by then no one was talking about it anymore. I'll see it occasionally come up, but nothing major.

Looks like my kind of crew.

I also tend to wait for games on Steam that are at -75% or beyond, but even then I'm rather cautious, since you never know when a Humble Bundle comes around letting you decide your own price - sometimes even throwing some bonuses into the mix. As for console games, I recently picked up Binary Domain for ? 15, Homefront, Metroid M and Metroid Trilogy Collector's Edition (!) for ? 10 each and Ivy The Kiwi for a fiver. All of them brand spanking new.

I actually have both Darkness games and have only played the first one for about 10 minutes. The second one was a Christmas present. I've been meaning to get around to these games for a while and I think I'll start soon.
Hopefully I have someone to talk to by the time I end up finishing them.

So many games! Right now I'm elbows deep in Borderlands 2, just finished Deus Ex: HR, and hop on my newly purchased copy of CIV 5 when I have huge swaths of time to get rid of. Loving/loved all three games but can't really make a thread about how much I am enjoying them without it getting buried in a ton of "late to the party" posts.

Sonic Generations. God damn it this game is gooooood!! to me they finally got both versions of sonic right and the whole package is just something of beauty, from visuals, to the level designs to the amazing music.
But of course no one is talking about this anymore and saying exactly what I am saying now. No they all did that back in 2011 back when I was dismissing this game due to just playing the demo and being pretty set against Sonic games since 06.
I have now realised they knocked it out of the park and I have no one to gush too!!

Oh and Mass Effect 3.
I am really loving this game. Which I hate because all through this game I have to keep reminding myself to not fall head over heels for it because there is a god awful fandom shattering decision ignoring ending awaiting me. At least that?s what I have gathered from very vague spoiler free conversations about the ending.
But then again I have Leviathan and EC and I heard that cushions the blow of this terrible ending.(though I did hear about a pretty BIG part of the ending and I got to say I am really okay with it. It was how I was hoping the third Metroid game would end.
