I've been playing a lot of DOTA 2 recently, and I've been having a lot more fun supporting my team than trying to carry them.

I don't have to worry about getting last hits (for gold) and I can concentrate on helping my carries reach their full potential while denying gold to enemy heroes.

Playing a medic in TF2 is also great for a change of pace.

What about you guys?

I'm alright with playing support. Something different, fun, useful part of the team... and, you can always cap a few enemies if you feel the need. Or have the need.

depends on the game but i am perfectly happy being "support", in tf2 i have no problem being the pyrochecker for a group or laying down shit tons of cover fire as a heavy to allow my guys to sneak in the back/underside/etc...

in halo I was usually always the one to get put in the driver seat on the warthog, which i didn't have a problem with, racked up shit tons of those wheelman badges :D

I tried DOTA 2 for a teensie weensie bit after watching a friend play for an hour, and i've decided it is not the game for me in the slightest, so i'll leave it to the pros on that game.

I love to play Support roles in games.

Generally, I'm the back-up. I'll put down suppressing fire if a friend wants to plant the bomb in Call of Duty. I will be the one who had Medic class on in World at War (still kind of depressed they got rid of that). I will be the one who passes the ball in a two-on-one in the online FIFA mode. I will be the one to equip the missile launcher to take down choppers/UAV's in Black Ops II, even though I have Cold-Blooded and Blind Eye on. I am also the guy with Engineering on who will change your care package from that piece of shit Counter-UAV to that bitching awesome ARG even though it gets me killed fairly often...

For some reason, support is something that I've always kind of liked to do...

I like playing a straight up support character. I buy a bunch of wards and run around trying to deny, and warding, and using my support abilities like a good little bag carrier.

And then by like...the 10 minute mark...if we're not winning, and I'm like...0-1 or something and have lousy items because I haven't been last hitting, someone will identify me as the weakest link and harp on me all game.

I find it's safer to just have everyone pick a carry, and then when you're getting demolished and someone is screaming "WHAT WENT WRONG!?!" you just shrug and blame Medusa.

Because it's always Medusa's fault.

I always feel like there's less pressure on me when I'm supporting :D

I mean, the other day, I got 9 kills and 1 death, with like 30 assists. I use Lich, so for some reason, people don't consider me an immediate threat.

Well, until they get a face full of Chain Frost, but then it's too late :D

I went something like 2-9 once as Naga Siren. I play Single Draft, and it was my first time using her, and I just could not get the hang of her. Our whole team was down something like 10-50, so I was in good company. Still...I was playing just awful. After I mis-used my ultimate for like, the third time, someone shouted "FUCK YOU MEDUSA".

Lich is a boss. I don't really think of him as a support, though. He feels like more of a nuker to me.

I've warmed up to playing more support in LoL just because I find Nami so fun now. I mean Leona is good and all but as we all know, a truly good Leona is determined by how many deaths she has. :/

Pro as Heck Guide to Leona: Jump into their team, press W, stun the carry and try to land your ult on their entire team. Then hope to GOD your team happened to follow you in. Then watch your team hopefully win the fight through a grey screen. It's annoying how untanky she is without items. Eclipse is too much of a crutch she has to rely on for my tastes.

Nami is one of those people who can escape anything I think. Considering I outran a fucking Singed across half the map the one time proves that she is one slippery fish. Her passive is deceptively good for ze move speedz. Though her stun hitbox is slightly off. It's slightly shorter than the ring says it is which is annoying since it's a more difficult one to hit anyway.

Then there's the "fuck it, i'm out" ult which instantly shuts down a chasing enemy team. I LOVE super flashy moves like that. It's why Pony is my favourite jungler.

"Suffering... Is MAGIC!"

Oh and when I was playing DOTA 2 I play nothing but Crystal Maiden and god she must be the most anti-scrub character ever. slow, stun and hyper damagey ult? YEAH DIVE ME! DIVE ME SON!

I play support almost exclusively in Dota 2, wow and other mmos but cant stand it in league. I enjoy propping other people up to do well or back up a others in a team as much as possible it just fits my personality I spose.

I actually main supports in League, and playing multiplayer games i tend to lean towards support roles. I think it's because i tend to easily recognize a teammates disposition to a certain playstyle easily and can modify my behaviour to suit that, the only aspect i find annoying is that people often don't realize how big an impact a support can make (either in league or even other games) and it can be a rather thankless job.

I just got into dota 2 and am enjoying support heroes, but I play mostly single draft so it's hard to get them all the time. I really can't wait until I get Keeper of the Light, he looks fun.

I usually play classes like Spy in TF2 or Infiltrator in tribes, but since there's so much pressure on the carry/ganker in Dota I'm leaning towards support. I had a bad game as viper recently (I wasn't aware that was possible), and my team was not happy. Not happy at all D:

Support roles can actually be pretty fun and your team will appreciate you for filling them... when they notice.

I prefer to drive the Warthog in Halo instead of taking the popular spot of mounted gunner. You go ahead and take the XP that comes with that role, and 'I can show you the worrrrrrrld!' while we gun down our enemies as an unstoppable force of co-operation!
...
I also played as a Medic in TF2.

I played Sona occasionally in LoL, but generally speaking I find support roles really boring. I don't need to be doing all the deeps, but I like being in the thick of things dishing out crushing blows, giant fire balls and the like. I generally prefer to play mages in MOBA games for their combos and crowd control, but back in my WoW days I loved the role of main tank. In fact, in the few WRPGs out there that support MMO party structures I prefer to play the tank in the party. Sword and board warrior in DAO is a blast imo.

I didn't consider shooters. I actually vastly prefer driving vehicles than being the gunner in games like Halo. In fact, I believe the warthog is the single best thing in the entire Halo franchise, bar none.

I'm with you on that one.

There's something wonderful about driving a vehicle that recovers from jumps like it's made of Silly Putty and helium. :D

I'm usually a damage dealing role. I solo a lot more than I party. You know how much of a pain in the ass it is to be a support by yourself? That shit's hard.

Really depends on a game.
I'm a horrible support in Dota, since I love to last-hit, and I hate spending money on wards.
In The Old Republic or TF2 however I really enjoyed my time being a medic.

Speaking of DOTA, I like nuking the other people using Zeus in DOTA 2. Moreso if I can build Veil of Discord, Aghaim's Scepter, and the Refresher Orb. So much fun ganking people... Moreso if I spam Chain Lightning on them thanks to the Arcane Boots and the Mana regen from the Refresher Orb. :)
