I'm not a huge fan of the horror genre but i found Bioshock to be just on the right side of creepy. The only bit the really freaked me out was when you go into a dental surgery and the room fills with smoke, when it clears a dead body is sitting in the chair that was previously empty. Then it happens again and it appears behind you

I didn't find the game scary per se, but it is quite atmospheric.

When you're done with it, go play F.E.A.R.

If your playing on hard the best tip I can give is telekinesis you get it free it uses up little eve, bodies can be used as bullet shields and most splicers will go down instantly when hit with a dead body.

As well Dig daddy rosie grenades can be picked out of the air and used against them, Other then that get good at hacking Cameras as the best to hack, Oh and the security bullseye and eve saver you don't have to hack the cameras infact its quite easy to just bullseye a big daddy and let the security bots kill it, all so one awesome trick is to leave something to hack in a level preferably close to where a big daddy roams, fail the hack on later areas and lead the liquid to an alarm panel then bulls eye a big daddy continue this and the big daddy is dead in a short amount of time little eye use and no dmg to you, This is actually a better method because big daddy rosie stray nades can blow up cams but alarm panels and breaking security glass need no camera.

I just got to the medical pavillion, I had to sit in a corner for 10 minutes just to make sure everything was safe.

Found it scary just like you with all the sights and sounds but it kept me interested to continue and almost everything in the game is amazing. Too bad I lost interest in FPS's and that stops from really getting immersed into the game but it's a great game.

Bioshock?

Scary?

Bwha?

That game was an absolute walk in the park. Atmospheric yes, but hardly scary.

Off the top of my head, for true horror, play one of the following: F.E.A.R. (the original, not the absolutely childish F.E.A.R. 2 installment), System Shock 2, or Doom 3 (not as horror as the others, but it has its moments).

BioShock 1 still stands for me as the best game of this current generation of consoles. I can't remember the last time I was so immersed in a game as I was with BioShock.

The sequel is pretty damned good too, though I haven't found the story to be as engaging so far and the gameplay is pretty much more of the same.

Yeah, Bioshock 1 was a fucking masterpiece. The atmosphere was amazing - creepy and yet somehow... I dunno.. enchanting, almost. It really drew you into the city. And the characters... I still say Sander Cohen is the best supporting character in gaming history - hell, probably the best supporting character EVAAH!!
The sequel... Well, it doesn't stack up to BS1 with the story, characters or the athmosphere - but could you really expect it to? After the near perfection of the first game? No, not really. BS2 handles the storytelling very competently, don't get me wrong - it's not bad by any means - just don't expect it to blow your mind as Bioshock did.

Where the sequel surpasses it's predessessor, is the action. The action has been improved beyond.. something.. very awesome. But I suppose that's not really on topic....

It's scary during the firefights, but once I upgraded the shotgun, everything was fine.

I didn't have a problem with the horror aspect because my TV is horrible so I have to turn the brightness all the way up.

Although accidentally angering a Big Daddy for the first time and then getting completely demolished is very scary.

And I heard they took hacking out of Bioshock 2, which makes me sad, 'cause I was really good at that.
'twas hard NOT to be good at that. the hacking is now real time, so no breathers during a fight.

I never really found Bioshock scary, the splicers were too comical.

The dentist made me jump though.

You want proper scary, play Condemned...

I've only been truly scared twice by games - Bioshock was the first.

In the area before dealing with your first Lil' Sis, in the mortuary. Holy shit, I litrally fell backwards off my recliner!

WAAAAAAAAH!!

I cannot legitimately walk into a clothes shop without getting a panic attack now, thanks to the Mannequin part of Condemned.

Yeah, I didn't particularly find Bioshock scary. However, System Shock 2 still is very scary, too scary for some people to play, so they must have had to tone it down.
Would love to give that a go sometime. If it's on Steam I'll take a look!

The Mannequins were terrifying indeed... and almost as bad in the sequel.

But nothing made me shit a brick like the locker room...

I was bored out of my mind. All I could think about was how much longer will this drag on.

Alright, but I found them fun... EVERY TIME.
