Bioshock oddly doesn't scare me. All I really need to do is pick up my wrench and there is nothing that scares me, not even a big daddy, of course I used the machine gun and revolver on the big daddy's though. The wrench is like my own version of gordin freeman's crowbar. so basically, its abit difficult to be scared when you have less then a hord coming after you, and you have a weapon that can kill most of them in three hits. Still a favorite though.

Interestingly, I found FEAR to be very creepy and unsettling, but I was so in "rapture" (HAR!) with Rapture itself, that the gleeful exploration for me overwhelmed any sense of fear or dread I had in Bioshock 1.

It's scary during the firefights, but once I upgraded the shotgun, everything was fine.

I didn't have a problem with the horror aspect because my TV is horrible so I have to turn the brightness all the way up.

Although accidentally angering a Big Daddy for the first time and then getting completely demolished is very scary.

And I heard they took hacking out of Bioshock 2, which makes me sad, 'cause I was really good at that.
'twas hard NOT to be good at that. the hacking is now real time, so no breathers during a fight.
Alright, but I found them fun... EVERY TIME.
true. they were fun.

I'm going to be playing it again starting Saturday, already started it, got bored, figure I'll finish it for the fact that my friends love it and I'm told it gets better later (which as Yahtzee says, isn't an excuse that should be used). But when I play, between the obnoxiousness of having to pan the screen for your health and attacking the enemy at the same time, I do find that wandering around with noises around you quite frighting. In fact, I think I'm having the most fun with the LACK of enemies, because it gives a sense of fear and dread and unsure of what's around the next corner. Just hearing a Big Daddy's footsteps thundering closer and closer is scary enough, Bioshock 3 (since beating Bioshock 1 will have me having to have to play the sequel) should have less enemies, more noises, and a darker feel than either 1 or 2 has. Plus, since I've seen Little Sister vision, add more trippy stuff like that, or the teleporting stuff, trip me out crazy hard, it adds to the horror

And there's another thing: I honestly find the story of Rapture genuinely tragic, and more involving than most. It's hard for a game to draw you in, and "tragic" stories are a dime-a-dozen these days, but Bioshock's works.

That, and I find the Big Daddy/Little Sister interaction truly endearing.
