Also, seeing as PSN is free, I don't think people can sue at all.
actually word bro thats a good point.

but yea me and my friend (xbox fanboys) were just joking around and were wondering what would happen if people started getting pissed and like blaming sony for their cod not working.
I'm sorry, but when "CoD" is uncapitalized and put in that context, I get awesome mental images...

lolol sorry man haha :3

I'm having the same problem, I can't sign in. Another weird thing that has happened is the time has frozen, it stays at one o.clock am and doesn't move. Even when I set the right time, it just resets itself everytime I turn the console on.

Although I'm going to agree with the others and say that PS3 is not being hacked and it's probably just a technical problem, which will hopefully resolve itself.

I think that you're over exaggerating a simple maintenance check/failure which would most likely be solved by tomorrow morning.

Incidentally, even if this were to last a week, online isn't everything so I don't think it would be the last of the PS3.

Much less Sony, which incidentally does more than make PS3s.

Also, seeing as PSN is free, I don't think people can sue at all.
The problem isn't that we're not getting to play online, I would be fine witht that for a little while, but even our single player games are having issues.

I think the only way that this latest failure of the PSN system is going to piss people off is that it lost some user's trophies. I, personally, may have lost my Uncharted 2 trophies, which I'm not too pleased with (yeah, I know trophies don't really count for anything, but I worked really damn hard to find those treasures)--but I'm sure Sony will do their best to fix this.

So no, I don't think this is 'the last of sony', I think that we'll have forgotten all about this in a week or two.
I'm pretty sure trophies aren't gonna be effected unless you need to upload a games trophies, when you first play the game. All mine are up, they are in the HD i think.
Nope, trophies were affected: some of mine are gone, and this address talks about the issue--including the loss of trophies.

The problem is, that teh games aren't free, and some of them fail to work when you're not online, even the single player mode.

And when i go rob old ladies and kill people, i can always blame sony for having shitty servers, that made me unable to vent my anger on pixel foes.

i'd like to see how Jack Thompson would handle the news of a dude on a killing spree due to the lack of violent gaming

I think, it isn't someone hacking the Ps3, though Im a 360 person, I doubt anyone would go through that much trouble just to DDOS PSN.

Glitch or update, maybe, but I doubt anyone would waste an entire Sunday just to disrupt your gaming needs
DDoSing PSN would do nothing, the amount of traffic they are prepared for you couldn't just have a few people spamming it for this amount of downtime. There are much more effective ways of taking networks down than a few script kiddies with DDoS programs.

I'm fairly certain its just a minor network problem. That or your Firmware is horribly out of date.

ITT fanboys arguing. Also, PSN is rarely down, Live can be temperamental and to balance the PC fanboy tone, Steam sometimes goes down and I ca't get onto my games.

Actually it's not a good point.

Free or not, this is touted as one of the features of the product you bought. Part of the price. If it doesn't work, then that is a problem.

I'd have to check, there is probably something in the EULA covering this kind of eventuality to protect them, however at least in the US there are things you can't 'sign away' so EULAs tend to be relatively powerless in many cases. What is printed on a box also comes into play because if you didn't know all of the stuff in a EULA until you opened the box and had already paid that can invalidate a lot of the forced agreement.

It gets complicated, and wasn't my area of law (not that I was a serious law student).

The bottom line is that if it persists you could make a reasonable law suit out of it. The chances of winning against Sony are minimal since they can afford better lawyers than a gamer, but it would go to court. One of those cases where technically the guy making the complaint should win, but money would influance the case.

Of course this hasn't gone on long enough for me to agree it's an issue.

Besides we can always hope Sony is unusually generous and gives people a couple bucks in their Playstation Wallet to buy a new game or something as an apology. Doubtful but you know... it could happen if they care about their fans. That would make me a little less POed (not that I'm considering sueing or anything, even being disabled I have better things to do with my time)

yeah... if they can get away with charging 20,000$ for a tv, some recalls of a classically overcompensating game console is not going to phase them in the slightest..
