There is one small aspect of PSN that ticks me off. In the days where i still had a 360 I would check every two weeks for new demos and videos. This was easy to do as xbox live is organised in such a way that the new content is easily accessible. On PSN however the new stuff can be a bit of a pain to navigate as it is all just lumped in together on one page, organised by game title rather that content type (demos, Movies, DLC etc.)
I dunno man, I've never had that gripe with PSN store. I like that there's one page that is updated every week with new stuff, it saves me having to go into lots of smaller menus. But there are seperate pages for DLC, demos, movies, trailers, games, etc.

OT: I've never really heard much on the topic of PSN hate, tho it seems like it's mostly propagated by fanboys who don't want any competition for the 360.
I used to play 360 online when I was living with my older brother and mate. I liked XBL and it's very effective, btu as soon as I bought myself my PS3 I instantly preferred PSN. It's free, it's got great support for updates and great community support. Not to mention I love the trophy system. I know it's more or less exactly the same as XBL Achievements, but something in me feels a lot more satisfied when the PS3 tells me I've gotten a 'Trophy' as opposed to just 'Achieving' something. It's a Trophy! What's not to love?

Why? I hear a lot of people saying that but isn't it just up to personal preference? I own both consoles and they seem fine.

PSN functions, but that's about it. The thing I like about xbox is that it's all in one place. Want to start a chat? Invite a friend to your game? send a message? just hit that little x and it's all there, and it's consistent for every game.

PSN on the other hand leaves every game to handle its own online services pretty much completely, so it's a real hassle trying to figure it all out for every game you play, because they all have their own wanky rules. Metal gear online requires you to make, no joke, 3 accounts on 3 different sites before you start playing. Then to add a friend you have to go through all this shit only to find that for some reason your friends connection isn't good enough to even add you. there's no private chat/party system, the interface looks like an excel chart, and as a general statement, there's a bit more of an issue with connection on psn as there is on xbox live.

Also, nobody has a mic, probably due to the ps3 bluetooth being the most uncomfortable contraption in existence which also costs 50 bucks.

If you're playing a game like uncharted or little big planet and you have your friend in a skype call with you, I suppose it works fine, but that still isn't all too convenient.

As opposed to xbox live, which has that "Open/strict/moderate" NAT shit that the psn also has and really no other flaws.

The biggest problem I've faced are 360 fanboys trying to justify paying for online by believing:
Psn = crap
Xbox Live = perfect.
met more than a few fanboys like that, especially after theyve just paid some stupid amount for a 12 month membership, and then shelling out another 60 quid for a wireless network adapter just so they could connect wirelessly
just admit youve been wallet-raped by microsoft
most of them have never even tried psn when really theres hardly much difference between them

The PS3 is $600.
Someone's still living in 2006.

On topic: While it "may" be true that Xbox live receives a better connection (which has never been confirmed to me by the by), it completely boggles my mind that many of my Xbox friends think Psn is terrible completely based on the fact that it's free. I personally think its pretty good.
Cowabungaa said:
No it's not. It hasn't been for ages now. It's been 300 since last year.
$300 then. Still more than I could ever afford. I can't even afford community college, or an apartment somewhere that isn't a dirt road surrounded by 3ft tall grass and trees. There aren't even rabbits out here. That's how isolated this damn town is.
Where abouts do you live? And what's tying you down there?

For me the connections suck, the layout is terrible, and most of the people who actually have mics seem like they were deemed too annoying for Xbox Live.
Thank god for the mute function.

Truth be told the few times I've played on Xbox live, and I'm not a fan of multiplayers (on consoles atleast) so that is quite few, those were the ONLY sounds I could hear. I hate hearing 12 year olds shouting at their mics, much less 12 year olds with egos so tightly bound to the game they're playing.

Thank god for splitscreen/LAN.

on ps3 on per say ... mw2 if there is a host migration it will end the game
What? You have to be kidding me, the whole point of a host migration is so that the game doesn't end. I think it's just your connection. I myself have had few experiences where the game has actually ended, and I'm sure this kind of thing happens on XBl too.

Or you could just get a bluetooth mic off ebay or something, way cheaper. And don't the mics for Xbox come prepackaged anyways?

I don't know. They are pretty much the same. XBL has some more content(the gap is lessening)and a little bit more polished feel, but PSN is free, while XBL has the $50 a year price tag. If you ask me, PSN is better because the edge XBL has in content just isn't worth the 50 dollars a year. If I had bought an Xbox in 07 instead of a PS3, I would have already paid $150-200 in sub fees. Really nothing Xbox Live has to offer can warrant me spending that much money on it.
Exactly how I feel. Xbox may have more content for now, and sometimes gets DLC a bit earlier. Besides, that extra $50 could go to buying a new game.

From what I've heard from a friend who plays both the PSN is actually runs better and has less lag etc than XBL. However it does lack party chat etc and other social tools.

on xbox we get dedicated servers , microsoft makes us pay for your live so we get better hosts ... on ps3 on per say ... mw2 if there is a host migration it will end the game ... on xbox we get yellow bar and then back up to green
Now that's just not true, the servers are pretty bad and have a tendency to pick horrible hosts. Lost count of the number of times host migration picks a host who one bars everyone else. I'd be less annoyed about paying for XBL if I knew there were improvements to the servers going on

I don't understand your arguement. On Psn, you just hit the ps, click on the persons name on the friends list, and it gives you the [invite to game] [create message] [start text chat] options right there. How is that not in one place?

Don't worry about him, just another XBox fanboy who hasn't really had a go on PSN

OT: I personally love PSN, I mean, no subscription fees, pretty easy to use layout.

I don't play on my PS3 THAT much and if I had to pay £30 to play online, I wouldn't pay for it, because I'm not a regular enough user!

Is this new? Did it really suck at some point in time?
When the PSN launched in the first year of the PS3s life, it sucked. It plain sucked. Now? It's awesome. :)

My only gripe with psn is in Australia we don't have Crash Bandicoot 2 or any of the spyro games. I wanna be a little purple dragon dammit!

As a PS3 owner, XBL makes awesome "doop" noises and is green, so it's aesthetically better. Otherwise, they have various little trade offs, but end up being roughly equal.
