It looks promising, and if it isn't needed to play games online then the Playstation fanboys still get to brag. But from the sounds of it, you only get one PSonline game, two minis, and the classic at a time, not compounding so you get a new one every month (so it sort of acts like a game rental in the way I'm imagining it to be). That's not really worth $50 a month when I don't buy games anyways, and the DLC is a big meh because I don't own either of the games and there's no guarantee that I'll have any of the other games later offered.
No you get to keep the games if you downloaded them and you get 4 new ones every month. It is not needed to play online and no its no $50 a month its £39.99 a YEAR. Is it worth it? If you download atleast 1 game/dlc a month then your getting your money worth.
It's 40 pounds equals out to about $50 according to the google currency converter. But you'll still have to buy the majority of DLC anyways. The package only includes one specific DLC each month (with KillZone 2's DLC for the first month). As for the games, it might be you get to download new ones and get to keep the old ones, but I think the wording was a little unclear for that. The fact still remains that if you ever cancel the service, you don't get to play those games anymore unless you buy them. So to answer your question, it's still not worth it in my opinion. There isn't much I buy on PSN. The only things I can think of are Ratchet And Clank Future: Tools Of Destruction, FF7 and 8, and RE2 and 3. Most of those I could play on emulators anyways if I had wanted too.
The devil's in the details. The two questions are:
Do I keep the games?
and
Can I choose the games?
The ideal choice is yes to both, but I doubt that's how it'll work. Worst case it no to both removing just about all desire for the program. Of the two, I'd reather keep the game and wait for what I want than pick what I want only to have it a month.
Still, I don't have much interest. I was hoping for something more unique. There was talk of a cloud saving feature that would let us upload saves to an external server linked to our account. Sadly that never materialized.
I knew this sort of thing was going to happen it was inevitable but I am glad they are taking a less dickish way than xbox live where you can't play against each other unless you pay
Honestly if I knew this stuff was coming out 3 years ago I would have bought a ps3 but unfortunatly...
I hope that sony learn this lesson for their next console
it sounds like a good idea, but the fact that if you let ur subscription lapse for a month means u don't have access to those free games u downloaded is what is wrong with this. to me it just seems better that u download ur game from psn buy regularly paying for them. me being a broke college student with out a job and all.
Do want. Sounds much better than XBL and you don't have to pay for it to use internet if you don't want. Take that you filthy Microsoftian pigs! I wonder if Microsoft will try to top this?
over all this doesnt seem like a bad way of doing the extra content subscription thing, not taking anything away from users, just giving a lil extra to ppl
Thorpe confirms that access to these free titles requires an active subscription, but adds that the games will reactivate when a lapsed subscription is renewed.
This service is definitely a good deal, I'll most likely get it as soon as it's available. The 4 free games and free DLC, whether I get to choose them or not, is a hella good deal for the $50/$60 a year price tag, which is as much as LIVE costs with 100x the content (OOOOO, burn! ;P)
EDIT: You guys need to learn to check your sources, this article doesn't do the PS+ feature justice;
"Each month there will be a selection of 1x PSN game, 2x minis and 1x PS One classics. A list of the games available in month 1 and 2 can be found below. You will be able to download these games during the month they are available, until the new selection replaces these."
Meaning: There will be a select number of games available every month for free.
"Once downloaded, these games are yours to keep and play as long as you are a member of PlayStation Plus"
Meaning: Every game you download while on the subscription stays, you can continue playing the game until your subscription for a year is gone (or 3 months depending on the subscription) Ideally, you will play 12 PSN games, 24 Minis, and 12 PSOne games in a year for 50 or so dollars.
"Additionally, if you delete one of these titles from your PS3 but decide you want to get it back then you can re-download from the Plus section of the Store if the games is still there, or, if the game has expired from the Plus section of the Store, then you can simply search for it on the Store and download it again at no extra cost."
Meaning: If you delete a game, but want it back, all you have to do is download it again.
"Each month there will be 2 dynamic themes, 2 premium avatars and premium game elements/add-ons for you to download and many of these will be exclusive to members only. These are yours to keep forever once you have downloaded them."
Meaning: Themes, avatars, and add-ons for games stay with you forever.
"Plus members will also be given exclusive PlayStation Store discounts each month that are above and beyond the current Store discounts available to everyone. These discounts will range from 20% ? 50% and anything you buy with these is yours to keep and enjoy forever."
Meaning: You get discounts, anything you buy with them are yours forever.
"members are included in some selected demos and beta trials early, before they go live to everyone"
Meaning: Early beta+demo access
"As I mentioned, just the games themes and avatars are worth over £200* a year and with unrestricted access to 48+ games each year and all the other features, we think this service is great value for money."
Meaning: It's a fucking great deal overall

[HEADING=2]All of this is on:
http://blog.eu.playstation.com/2010/06/23/playstation-plus-explained/#more-19810
Seriously, RTFSources guys[/HEADING]
ALSO ALSO, if you sign up for PS+ for 1 year in the first week it's available, you get LBP for free forever (in Europe at least, I do not know if some of this applies for US also, but I imagine it would.)
I'm seriously considering it, but i'd prefer for it to have whatever DLC you like as long as its under a certain price or to be able to choose from a list, im not interested in those 2 DLCs and the PS1 games i'd like are probably MGS and FF but it will probably be horrible titles that flopped
Well, how so? How could they "sweeten the deal" some more? I mean, that's a bit ambiguous for a post, no?
Check my above post and the Playstation Gamers group [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/groups/view/Escapist-PlayStation-Gamers] for more details on PS+ as this article does not really show everything it offers.
