Let's see...

Never watched Doctor Who, and it's gotten to the point where I basically know everything that's happened since the people I know who are fans must let everyone know what happened.

Stopped watching Walking Dead partway into Season 2 as I felt it was getting too soap opera, and everything I've seen since then gives me an odd feeling of disdain.

I've only ever owned one CoD game and I've only played 10 minutes of the zombies mode.

I'm a huge fan of Final Fantasy, having played and finished most games. However, for the life of me I cannot finish 9.

Never finished a Legend of Zelda game.

Never finished a Mario game (unless Mario Kart counts).

Last one is a little obscure:

I'm a massive Type-Moon fan, read the VNs, watched the animes (and while the VNs are far FAR superior, at least UBW is alright in it's own way) played Melty Blood and Moon Battle Wars and yet I cannot bring myself to read through Heaven's Feel because I'm not a fan of Sakura.

There are a number of times:
- I actually enjoyed the star wars prequels the first few times I watched them. I was still very young back then, as in 8-9(?).
- When people talk about classic games, I often have to google them because I have no idea what they're talking about.
- I never played any of the Final Fantasy games, even though I have thought about it a lot. (I just haven't find any time for it)

For over 20 years I thought that one of Red Dwarf's vending machines was supplying Cat with "Trout ala Greque".

A month ago I was informed, with proof, that it was "Trout ala Creme".

How the jumping monkey-fuck can I have watched that episode a gabillion times and not ONCE did I twig?
What the smeg man!
All kidding aside, I like Red Dwarf as well.

Not necessarily in the realm of fiction, but there have been times where I've been wrong about facts or facts that I don't know anything about. When bra-ket notation was introduced I understood it to a degree. I got that < | supposed to mean? It was only a year later, in fact LAST year, did I find out that it's supposed to represent a place in a matrix. For example a 3x1 multiplied by a 1x3 matrix would produce a 3x3 matrix.

Another good one was that I had a misinterpretation of what an elastic collision was. I knew that an inelastic collision was one in where the two objects stick together and momentum is conserved but KE isn't. But I thought that an elastic collision was a collision where two objects hit and fly apart, momentum is conserved, but you can't assume anything about the KE. It was only until later did I find out from a practice problem for the qualifying exam that the definition of an elastic collision is one in where KE is indeed conserved. The good news is, I haven't forgotten since then and I passed both the Classical and Modern portion of the qualifying exam with flying stars. So I guess I could say I "got my card back, thank you!" XD

My geekdom lies mostly in video games and record collecting. Most of it is '70s UK punk, new wave, prog rock, a whole lot of '60s, and also '90s britpop (in which I kind of include Saint Etienne, though they may be more dance).

If Britcom counts, then put me in that camp too. ;) Monty Python, Blackadder, The Young Ones, Father Ted, Are You Being Served, Fawlty Towers, Keeping Up Appearances, etc.
This really isnt that geeky as far as your music taste goes (which I must say is good) there are loads of really popular bands. The clash, the sex pistols, the damned, joy division, the cure, the smiths, the jam, pink floyd, jethro tull, oasis, blur, pulp, the verve (and many many more).

Just wondering if you are into the ska post punk sub-genre

Also black adder, python and father ted are really popular (at least in the UK, perhaps its different in the US)

Mine is Pokemon. Most would say any decent Pokemon geek, could at least tell you what generation every Pokemon comes from. I've failed at this. I've gone the past nine years, assuming that Marill and Azumarill were first gen Pokemon. It didn't help that my first experience with first gen was FireRed, in which Oak tells you about Pokemon with a Marill. Yesterday while browsing through bulbapedia, I see Marill in second gen. My jaw nearly hit the floor. I felt ashamed at my faulty Pokemon knowledge.
Just a week or so ago I learned Rock is not weak to Ice, Ground is. I've been with Pokemon since the NA Red/Blue release, and all this time I was being mislead by the abundance of Rock/Ground hybrids. I felt like my whole life had been a lie.

In addition, I've never played a table-top RPG. I would LOVE to play, and I even own D&D books, but I don't have, you know, friends.

I have never watched Doctor Who or Predator?. While I plan to watch the latter, I'm not sure about the former. I don't know where to start or how to understand the whole series.
If you're new to the series I would suggest starting with the 2005 reboot and going on from there.

Well...
*I HATE Star Wars. Don't care which one you're talking about, HATE it, except for the Gungan Parade at the end of Episode 1, I can't find any enjoyment in the movies.
*I don't get overly verbose about games, especially if the person I'm talking to isn't talking back about them. They're a pass time for me at best.
*I liked Mass Effect 3's ending. Until I read up on why everyone hated it, it felt natural to me.
*I still have trouble identifying the actors in Monty Python beyond John Cleese and Eric Idle
*I routinely cheat when playing video games. Because they're about fun, not about the spectacle. Then again, I only ever play single player games, so...

It's safe to say most of us here are of a geeky nature. Most geeky things tend to have deep backstories and complex ideas, that can sometimes make us forget the basics. This thread is to admit to you making a silly mistake about something nerdy.

So, when have you guys felt like you needed to turn in your geek cards?
To answer the thread, probably never.

To respond to Marill -
Many of the 2nd Generation Pokemon were designed along with the original 151 - Ho-oh, Ampharos and Marill, for example. Technically they just didn't have enough space on the original Red/Blue/Green cartridges to program them in and had to save them for Gold/Silver.

Marill, Ampharos and many other 2nd Generation Pokemon became well known by incorrect names (Pikablu, Denryu) long before Gold and Silver actually came out.
2nd Gen Pokemon like Togepi, Donphan, and Marill also showed up in the anime and movies before Gold and Silver came out. Hell, Ho-oh shows up in THE FIRST EPISODE of the anime.

So, the degree to which you are wrong in assuming Marill to be a 1st Gen Pokemon is debatable, though technically, yes, he's 2nd Gen.

I've never owned a GameBoy.
I once referred to MGS2 as MGS2: Sons of Patriots.
I don't have problems with MGS2!Raiden.
I once referred to Ralph Macchio as Ralph di Maggio.

I've never 100%ed a game. The closest I ever came was with Oblivion, but then I realized I'd killed one of the precious few killable quest-givers, so I ended up doing every quest but one. I honestly can't be bothered to 100% stuff. Why spend so much time on one game when there's so many fantastic games coming out every week?

I'm a huge The Elder Scrolls fan, and it's pretty much the only fictional thing I'd consider myself an expert in, lore-wise. Imagine my embarrassment when I spent a half-hour heatedly arguing that Morrowind was set after both Oblivion and Skyrim. I don't know what the hell went through my mind. This is the equivalent of a Harry Potter fan switching the position of Prisoner of Azkaban and Order of the Phoenix.

I don't think Lord of the Rings is particularly good. I've read the books, watched the films, and find them both alright at best. I know it's the grandad of modern fantasy, and I respect it for that, but I just don't like it. The characters, barring a precious few, are boring, flat cardboard heroes. The Hobbit, on the other hand, is one of my favourite books ever, and the first film (not really the second) is one of my favourite films ever. It's full of energy, enjoyable, and Bilbo is one of the most likeable characters in history.

I won't say the LotR isn't good. It IS good. Just SUPER dense.
But I WILL agree that The Hobbit is absolutely better.

Moviewise, I haven't seen the second Hobbit movie just yet, but if the first is anything to go by, the LotR movies are MUCH better.

I've never played a tabletop RPG. I never had any friends who were into it and never had a sufficent amount of time to do so. I think the big problem with most tabletop games in general is that it takes forever to play them. Especially RPG's and Stategy games where it can take Days to get one game completed.

Now, I've played a fair number of Computer RPGs, both western and japanese. I think part of that was I can play those in blocks and I can play them alone. It's far easier to work those into my schedule.

I felt Bioshock: Infinite was superior to Bioshock. I've beaten Infinite twice and really want to go for another round(and if I wasn't super busy right now I would). I've beaten bioshock once and every time I try to replay it, I keep losing interest after the opening. It doesn't help that much of the game is forgettable besides the fantastic opening and the confrontation with Ryan(and really, the game should have ended right there instead of dragging on for another few hours). Also, I don't see how the timey-whimey shenigans in Infinite was worse then the test-tube baby/genetically engineered magical powers shenigans from Bioshock. Not to mention at least Booker had a character arc and personality, as opposed to Jack who is a dude with a gun(whose twist doesn't mean a lot considering you don't know shit about him besides the fact he's a dude with a gun).

I can't bring myself to care about Halo. I played the first one and found it decent and nothing else. I've been told it has a really good story...if you read the books. Which still doesn't make a case why I should bother with the games.

Somewhat more seriously, I'm just having a hard time thinking of one. I tend to do a fair bit of research on topics I'm going to talk about if I don't already have the background information behind them and am going to actually tackle the topic at hand rather than something somebody said in it.
I'm in a similar boat but more because I tend not to give much in the way of a damn when it comes to what I don't know. Or its impact. I always like to learn more, and that is part of what makes me a geek, but if I thought Togepi was a gen 1 Pokémon and was wrong, I'd just shrug. Even now, I don't care about a lot of things in Pokémon. I don't care enough to ever be competitive. I don't care about EVs or IVs, I don't care about breeding, and so on.

Though it would be weird, because I played Gen 1.

And when my friends would obsess, I'd just sort f shrug there, too.

But I can't think of an example in a field where I would consider myself a geek or an expert. Maybe there is one, I don't know.

My friends have been passing around a "Geek Number" test on Facebook. I think you just failed without taking it. >.>

Though it's a stupid test that is basically "are you the kind of geek portrayed on the Big Bang Theory" more than anything else. It gives you a point for your favourite Doctor being from Classic Who but fails to address my ability to play the Doctor Who theme on multiple instruments.

I play all my games on easy mode. I hate dying all the time and I just want to experience the game, so why wouldn't I?

I dislike competitive multiplayer. Most games are full of angry people that are better than me, so I just stick to co-op.

My first console that I seriously got into was the PlayStation 3.

I have zero interest in classic games (read: anything pre-N64)

James Vega is an interesting and complex character who is woefully underrated.

Miranda Lawson is a boring and uninteresting character who is woefully overrated.

Dr. Who is okay.

I like seasons 8 and 9 of The Office.

The Hobbit movies are fantastic and get way too much hate.

BioShock Infinite wasn't too violent.

Batman: Arkham City was a serious downgrade from Arkham Asylum.

Injustice: Gods Among Us is a terrible game that false advertised.

Mass Effect 1 is a good game dragged down by awful gameplay and controls.

Mass Effect 3 is the best in the series.

The only thing I didn't like about the ending was the fact that the Catalyst decided to appear as the child. Other than that it was fine.
Totally agree with you in regards to competitive multiplayer. I loved ME3 multi for this reason. Plus it had more than just guns. I don't understand why people ONLY want to shoot

i agree with most of the things you say, except The Office bit, never watched it... and my first gaming console (as in MINE!!) was a Playstation :3 (Nintendo can burn for all i care)

I love James Vega, he's adorable, and ME3 was great, the ending was just kinda 'okay?' sci-fi shenanigans (i think i could accept it because i love Voyager... and that's some scifi shenanigans XD) and i only ever used Miranda for her missions... screw human PCs... except Vega, he's adorable :3

Thanks for the compliment on my music tastes! :) I first got a Clash cassette when I was 5, along with Missing Persons' Greatest Hits, Pleasure Victim by Berlin, Business as Usual by Men at Work (they were also my first concert) and Rio by Duran Duran. Also, I was born 3 weeks before Sex Pistols' Never Mind the Bollocks came out. One of my fav albums of all time (Sid's songs on The Great Rock & Roll Swindle soundtrack were amazing too). Speaking of Sex Pistols, I also love Tenpole Tudor, who was slated to become their second singer before they simply disbanded.

I have literally every track The Cure released from the Easy Cure demo tapes up to 1992, also with a lot of bootlegs. Likewise, I have tons and tons of Siouxsie and the Banshees (who I like MUCH more than The Cure). I have all of The Smiths' albums, all of The Jam's albums, every Pink Floyd album from Piper at the Gates of Dawn to Meddle (I don't like much of their stuff after that), I saw Jethro Tull in concert four times and have all their albums up to Songs From the Wood, I have all of Oasis up to Standing on the Shoulder of Giants, I'm FANATICAL about Blur and have been since 1991, and I have all of Pulp's albums. Jarvis Cocker was a rock god, especially when he mooned Michael Jackson at the 1995 Brit Awards. ;)

Ska and post-punk I also like. The Slits went kind of funk on their debut album (unlike the hard punk of the Peel Session era). Madness is yet another band from whom I have every album. For modern ska, I'm totally in love with Suburban Legends. They're tied with Jethro Tull as the two bands I've seen more of than any other.

No real comment on what you said, but I just had to applaud you for your AWESOME Quadrophenia avatar. :D I have more Who in my collection than any other band. For Quadrophenia alone, I have a few versions of the original LP, the 1st run Japanese (Philips) CD, the Japanese remaster CD, the original German/UK CD, the remaster German/UK CD, the US original CD, the US remaster CD, and the MFSL gold disc. My entire Who collection has about 300 pieces, including Pete's, Roger's, John's, and Keith's autographs.
