I've revently gotten hooked on this genre, playing games like Monkey Island (love the humour and flexibility of the format - fighting pirates to add more insults to your library was hilarious), Machinarium (the art and puzzles were the best I've experienced in any game, ever) and The Longest Journey (just started this, but the world feels so real - no mean feat for a game this old). They're masterpieces, like a breath of fresh air.

What are your favourite point and click games? Do you play games from this genre often? Do you even like these games?

Answer away, my fellow Escapians.

Yahtzee's Chzo Mythos games. There may be some glaring flaws in some parts in regards to story, and some gameplay mechanics are plain stupid, but I still found playing them a very enjoyable experience, purely because of the atmosphere the games made. it was surprisingly good, considering the quality of the graphics in the game.

I very recently played through Puzzle Agent. It's incredibly short so I nabbed my friends netbook to play it off, took me around 4 to 5 hours whilst browsing forums as well.

It's much more of a Puzzle Game than a Point and Click though.

I do highly recommend "Ben There Dan That", a free point and click by Zombie Cow.
I haven't played many though, they aren't usually to my tastes.

The Longest Journey. Without a doubt.

An incredible protagonist and moving story with a surprising conclusion. TLJ is probably one of the most memorable games for the PC that i've had the pleasure of playing. Some puzzles really made you think.

Discworld 2: Morality Bytes / Missing. Presummed?
Discworld Noir

Both seriously funny point and click adventure games, based on Terry Pratchett's Discworld universe, with Pratchett involved in the scripts for both. Discworld 2 is a more lighthearted one, where you play as Rincewind. The graphics are cartoonish. Noir is a satirical take on Film Noir detective stories, and as such is a bit darker - both in tone and in graphics. Both are hilarious though.

Machinarium is probably one of first new ones in a long while that I have really enjoyed. I go back and play some of the old ones now and again.

Grim Fandango is probably my favourite. I also like Blade Runner and the first two Monkey Island Games.

The Longest Journey
There's a sequel to that game called Dreamfall: The Longest Journey. It evolved out of point and click so I'm not 100% sure if you'd be interested in it. I like both of the games, so you might want to try that out, if you haven't already.

You should check out this list. [http://www.adventuregamers.com/display.php?id=186]

I never had much experience with them growing up, but I am a fan of a few modern short ones, such as Morningstar [http://www.kongregate.com/games/RedHerringLabs/morningstar].

The Neverhood [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neverhood] is a pretty neat older one that I've played (it's soundtrack is particularly awesome/weird). Probably the favourite game of one of my friends.

I'm not a fan of them. I've played Siberia, King's Quest VI, and one of those newfangled Monkey Island sequel thingies. They weren't bad, but I just like having more control over the character, and I hate clicking on one side of the screen and waiting for the character to move there, especially if I'm lost and wandering around.
Yeah, Myst at least had quick travel if you'd already been somewhere once.

I haven't played many, and it's been quite a while. The two most memorable for me were Day of the Tentacle (Absolutely awesome and hilarious game) and the Indiana Jones games. I never liked Myst much...

Here's a real classic you might not have heard of if you're just getting into the genre. Also, it's free. You can thank me later :p

Well, here's my favourites:

Myst series (Riven WILL make you want to kill your computer)

Grim Fandango (funnier than monkey island)

The Dig (great atmosphere, and it's cheap off steam)

Also, kudos on owning Machinarium. best. art. ever.
