It hurts me to say this, but the last mission of Ace Combat 5 was completely pointless. The story was already over and it only served to send you through a giant set piece and be a climax after a climax.

That was the bit with the SOLG satellite, wasn't it?

Yea that is the problem with 4 and 5, rather than just ending they have to have one last giant thing you have to blow up to save everyone. Loved the level, don't get me wrong, but it didn't actually need to be there.

The Golden Pantaloons in Baldur's Gate 1, I know they made an awesome suit of Armour in Throne Of Bhaal if you got Gold Silver and Bronze. but before they brought out ToB there was nothing to do with the Gold and Silver Pantaloons.

I'm not sure which one was the most fun to get of the Gold, Silver and Bronze they were all so silly.

The last set of songs in Guitar Hero 3. Jump in a fire, Slayer, and take your Raining Blood with you. I've beaten that songs a grand total of one time since I've owned that game, and I got it a week or two after release. Difficulty curve ftw.

That fight came out of nowhere. There was no reason to kill Guilty Spark and Sergeant Johnson. It just seemed out of place.

An attempt for drama and emotion.. and a giant explosion to give you a stupid never-to-be-solved cliffhanger.

On topic, the only really pointless mission I can think of would be escort missions. They annoy me to no end and usually end in me saving and quitting immediately after finishing them to go and calm down.

i would have to say geting the crowbar that late in the game in half life 2 episode 1 was pointless.

Not really, it keeps up with the spirit of the Crowbar in the Half life series, if it wasn't included at all in that episode, Alot of people would be saying on forums "Where was the crowbar in etc etc" and Valve would get shouted at by the extremely hard-core fanboys, which are numerable.
