Oh freaking joy.
After the monumental failure that was Pokemon Diamond and Pearl, I think I'll give these two a pass.
Let me give a history of the pokemon series from my eyes:
Red and Blue: A new, innovative kind of game that really drew people's attention.
Yellow: Probably the most worthy of the title "Special Edition" in the entire series, giving you the Pikachu thing, Jesse and James right out of the cartoon series, and stuff like that.
Gold and Silver: Solid sequals, improving the game by adding new mechanics like hold items, a lot of new HMs, and, best of all, the ability to go back to the old region, which in itself added TONS of value to the game, plus the really cool PokeGear, Week Cycle, and Day Cycle.
Crystal: The best of the series, adding in the pokemon animations, the Battle Tower, and several other things such as the Suicune plot that really made things cool.
Ruby and Saphire: This is where the series started to get a bit gimmicky, with the Pokemon Contests, and the Secret Bases. However, both of those were still very fun, and adding stuff like the run button and stuff was a very good move. Disappointing that you couldn't go back to the last region, but still fun.
Emerald: Another good pokemon game, but not much added between games other than the Rayquaza plot.
Diamond and Pearl: The worst games of the series. Ruined the Pokemon Contest AND the Secret Bases, gave you a watch full of useless functions that paled in comparison to the epic PokeGear, changed the battle system (specifically Special and regular Attacks) as to confuse the hell out of fans by making them unlearn when they just spent 3 generations (3.5 if you count Fire Red and Leaf Green) learning, and just generally being terrible.
Now, I never played Fire Red/Leaf Green, Platinum, or Soul Silver/Heart Gold, but I doubted they would be worth my time anyways.
To me, someone just needs to put this franchise to sleep. With a 12 gauge shotgun if nessisary.
