...
I'm actually excited.
I haven't been looking forward to a new gen since the mess Ruby/Saph made.

Goddamn HG/SS making me enjoy pokemon again, gah...

Lol, apparently they ran out of expensive minerals and now are just using colors.

Early 2011 for a US release? Not bad at all, considering the timeline for past pokemon games and the recent released HG/SS

EDIT: I'm just thrilled they aren't being released on the "sure to be a stupid gimmick" 3DS

Black and White sounded really dull when i first read it, but after seeing images it doesn't seem half bad.

Not sure which one i'd choose though :p

Been playing since red/blue, and they've done a great job with the series the whole time. True it's a money printing series but nintendo has not been content to sit on thier tail and rake it in. They've continually added features and tweaked balance, the fact that so much of a list of 500ish pokemon is viable team building material if your creative enough is impressive. I didn't really get into gold/silver but that was mainly cause the art style put me off, I didn't get excited about the pokemon in it. However it brought loads of new system elements to the table and in doing so layed some great groundwork for the future of the series, so i must acknowledge is contribution even if its roster was entirely ugly by my thinking.

If the articles suspicions about a new type are true I wouldn't be entirely suprised. I just hope its well thought out. Adding a new type to the mix can really mess with balance and viability. So while i won't go dinasour and say "leave my types alone" I just hope its done right. After all psychic was horendously busted in red/blue, the addition of dark and steel type, as well as some system changes did a good job of fixing that. I doubt nintendo will wrecklessly blemish thier baby. I'm just suprised it's already being talked about. Seems too soon. I got a friend studying in japan right now he said something about them changing the starter tradition, as in, not fire/grass/water. Could be interesting but i fear a bit unintuitive. Most people can think "fire burns grass, grass soaks up water, water douses flame" but most people prolly won't think "dark is immune to psychic" if ya get my point.

I kinda wish it was a launch title for the 3ds though, I'd really like picking up a new handheld packed witha new pokemon game. Oh well.

What's the first, third and fourth supposed to be?

I'd guess normal, poison and, er ground. But we already have a normal (albeit not evolved). The third one doesn't look very "poisony" to be except the cloud. And the fourth one I'd only say ground from process of elimination, don't see anything really "ground" looking about it.

I hate most the new Pokemon they introduced in the last two versions, now they're going to tack on 100+ more useless rehashes of the first 250.

Heart Gold having the 3rd and 4th Gens made me have doubts about buying it....a game I'd been hoping would happen since the Red/Blue remakes. That's how much I dislike those generations.

I'm still going to though, Gold/Silver was one of my favorite games ever.
Even if you don't like 3rd and 4th Gen, it's completely transparent if you wish. You can play through Johto and Kanto and completely avoid any new pokemon, I don't think I've seen one that wasn't in Gold, and I'm 5 badges in.

Really? So soon?

Ah whatever, It shouldn't come her until next year, I should have HeartGold beaten by then.

Still, interesting Title they chose, much simpler than they've been using for a while now.
Five bucks says they're introducing a Light-type.
That would be interesting.

Damn, I imagine that there's people who's only job it is to come up with new Pokemon...

Please let this be the entry where they allow you to disable the "YOUR HP IS LOW, USE A POTION" alarm. I mean, come on. The thing doesn't even stop when you withdraw your Pokemon! No, you have to withdraw, select another, watch the withdraw animation, watch the POKEBALL GOOOOO animation, and THEN it stops. Unacceptable.

And how about an overhaul of the HM system, huh? My Pidgeotto is a flying type, it should already know how to fly. My Syther has swords for arms, it should already know Cut. I understand the reasoning behind locking the ability to use these moves outside of battle until you get a certain badge, but there's no excuse to waste a valuable move slot (which you can't back until much, much later, mind you) on something as useless as Rock Smash.
So, how's it going up there in my brain... where you're reading my thoughts?

Good? Warm enough? Can I get you a sammich?
Can I have a sammich too, while you're at it? I'm hungry.

OT: Looks interesting enough, although I really hope they introduce more different kinds this time than D/P/Pt did, as well as some more after-the-Elite-Four activities, to help increase replayability and all that.

FECKING HELL YEAH!
I do want to say though, I really want to see a new starting combination. We've had Fire-Grass-Water for four generations now, I think it's time to change it. I wouldn't know what to though, but I'm sure they could pick a balanced one. Looking at the new Pokémon there, I kinda hope they're a new Dark-type starter.
But really, I don't know what they can do for Legendaries. I mean, we can catch God (Arceus). What can be more Legendary than God?
I don't get why people don't like Pokémon from Gen three or four though (Probably have their rose-tinted nostalgia glasses on. I kid! :D). I thought there were plenty of awesome Pokémon in them, but maybe I'm in a minority.
And for the people saying it's too soon since the last generation, remember that gen four (Diamond and Pearl) came out in 2007, three years ago, which is a big enough gap if you ask me. Platinum was just the third game of it, which combines the last two, kinda, and HG/SS were only remakes, not new gens. I think it's been a good amount of time before making the new generation.
Battles could do with some actual attack animations though, or, and I'd rather this, a quick battle mode, so we don't have to spend five minutes battling the Ratata of this generation.
A new type I can go either way on. If it's balanced, sure, why not? Maybe it can be for just one Legendary, which is what makes it deserve its status.

So yeah, I'm looking forward to it, but they really do need to change some things. (And I probably have more to say, but it's late and I'm tired, so I'll leave it)

Couldn't they have at least waited a bit longer after the release of Heart Gold and Soul Silver to announce this?

I hope with the names, we'll get a new triangle - dark, psychic and fighting. With dual types of the starters coming in already wrecking the perfect triangle, may as well have a new broken triangle.

Wouldn't surprise me if that crappy black fox was a new starter.
A new triangle would actually make me want to really get into Pokemon again. I'm sick of just getting to choose the fire-type every time.

They'd better not get all innovative. The bad parts of everything nintendo has done has been innovation.
Not to say they can't improve pokemon- Indeed, one would hope they do. But really, what works works. New players still have fun battling npc folk and trading, experienced gamers still at least pretend to have fun EV training.
Oh, sorry, there is one possible innovation- The combining of all of the maps idea. That was most of the reason everyone loved g/s

While I'm hopeful that this "innovaton" will be an improvement on the original concept, like the introduction of breeding, I can't help but think it's going to be something like contests that are more of a gimmick.

Bleh, I was kinda hoping for a Pokemon series built for the new upcoming 3DS.

Because that's what Game Freak have done- every Pokemon title they've released was for a new console- RBY for the GameBoy, GSC for the Colour, RSE for the Advanced, and DPP for the DS! But now, it seems more like a cheap cash-in than anything else.

But if it's going to be a half-decent attempt at a game, then I'm hoping for several things:
1) HMs are going to be decent moves that can be used competitively. Whirlpool and Defog are crap, okay? No-one's EVER going to use them in battle.
2) Please innovate the starters. I liked what happened in Platinum/DP(the secondary types being able to counter the other secondary ones), but I'm kinda getting tired of the whole Fire/Grass/Water thing. Fighting/Dark/Psychic would be nice.
3)Make the other starters available at some point in the game. This was why I liked Yellow. It was good how I could complete my pokedex even without having to use them (all my friends picked the same starter -fire- so we were screwed for completing our pokedexes).
4) ... I cbf ranting. Oh! Wait! Let us return to the older maps, like Hoenn and Kanto/Johto and Sinnoh! That'd be awesome!
