I'm recently in a pokemon rediscovering, thanks to a friend of mine convincing me to rent HeartGold from gamefly...
To say the least, I'm remembering why I like this game. To say the most, HG/SS has given the players more to do than 'ever' and cutting the unnecessary fat from other games. I'd like to say especially, it's convenient now that the Nat Dex is capable of being gained upon completion of the Elite Four.
And concerning the event only legendaries these days, believe it or not there ARE still legitimate ones, it's just a matter of FINDING those legitimate legendaries. Hell, I just got a Deoxys from a gamestop event from a couple years ago this past saturday just because I helped out some hardcore player transfer his Platinum team to SoulSilver.
Concerning Black/White, I'd say there are a couple factors that need to be met... At least one of them:
-Good/Simple/Singular typed starters... Or at the least, Gen III decent. Gen IV's starters, Piplup the only exclusion, were HORRIBLE, especially Chimchar.
-Fixing the level gain, because the fact that traded pokemon level TWICE AS FAST makes it feel POINTLESS to level anything you catch yourself. Why bother leveling an Onix you caught yourself that will take a 2 trainer fights, each with 4 pokemon, to level up when an Onix you got from a friend could level up in one fight, potentially on only 2 out of the four pokemon?!
-Detailed stat system guide within the game, I shouldn't have to hunt around on the net for these stupid guides about EV's, the pokerus and more. The Pokedex needs to get some kind of a fucking datalog or library already!
-And lastly, MAKING USE OF ELEMENTS FROM ANY/ALL MAIN SERIES POKEMON GAMES. I'm tired of things like apricorns, berries, contests and every single other solitary thing being forgotten about in the next game, SPECIFICALLY APRICORNS. It was one of the greatest things that came from Gen II and it took, what, 8 years or so for it finally to return IN THE DAMN REMAKES?! Stop abandoning old ideas that WORK. ...Except for some of those useless HM's that just use up a pokemon's move sets.
I've come to peace with the fact that the main series itself... Will never get a 'real time combat' iteration, it's probably 'never' going to happen. As awesome as it would be personally controlling a pokemon and stringing together their attacks in combo moves and special finisher skills, it's a bit too much work I'd assume...
