Two games...no natures, no abilities, no hold items; nothing but raise the levels of your Pokemon, beat Team Rocket, kick your rival in the balls, and become the champ!
Gold/Silver came out. Some people got it, some people didn't. Those that didn't were those that knew when to quit. They got a simple thrill and they're done with it. Some folks, however, wanted more! A more complex experience! A more extreme 'high'! Pokemon grew in number...genders were included...breeding...hold items...custom Pokeballs...Berries...
The same process happened. Some people quit, some people didn't...and the vicious cycle continues! Now we're at the point of IV-breeding, EV-training, hold items, natures, breeding, contests, WiFi connectivity, Battle Frontier, over 400 Pokemon! They even got into the habit of releasing five RPGs per generation instead of three. When will it end?
Soon, people like me who continually buy games from each Generation will be sucking hobo schlong for BP and robbing convenience stores for a quick Poffin fix...

giving it a different plot.
Every single sequel since the days of Pokemon Red and Pokemon Blue has had the SAME EXACT PLOT.
Why not catch all the pokemon so that you can use them to bring down Team Rocket?
Or what about...
actually, the plot that they have going for now is pretty good. I mean, what other reason do you have to collect and train them? To beat everyone else? That's what the NPC's are for.
CURSE YOU NINTENDO FOR MAKING PERFECT PLOTS!!!!
