I knew it, I knew they'd run out of ideas eventually with their gem naming phase. Not too bad I guess. I reckon I'll get them just cos the pokemon games are teh shizz.

While they could've gone better then Heart Gold and Soul Silver, they kinda have to keep Gold and Silver in the name since these are remakes of those two. Wouldn't make sense to randomly go to Pokemon Ununnilium.

I've been putting off buying a DS in any of it's incarnations. The Phoenix Wright series tempted me, as did Mega Man ZX, but my will was strong, and I held firm. This, though... This is too much. When these games reach stateside, I fear my wallet will not survive the encounter.

Are you implying that the Japanese are naming-challenged? I don't think the failure of those names doesn't change through translation.

Heart & Soul: Ruby and Sapphire, Red & Blue, Diamond and Pearl...
I don't think the names really fail, I think they are just the only things they can come up with anymore that go together. They wouldn't make Heart & Lungs or something. That wouldn't make sense... to a kid, which is who the games are geared towards, Heart & Soul means something and is cool.

Previous names were okay. Being rocks and colors and all that. But why the sudden switch to organs normally affiliated with romance and drama? Will the game have a story for once? Which would suck, seeing as I loved Pokémon for its gameplay, not story.

I'm glad they finally made it happen. Funny names though, I get it... they match each other, but... Heart/Soul? They must've run out of cool sounding metals/gems/colors.

How can you run out of cool sounding metals? Look at the periodic table, we have Mercury, Titanium, Magnesium, the list goes on.

Well, the names kinda suck, but if the games are still good, who really cares? I mean, the name "Pokemon" is pretty strange to begin with, but I'm willing to compromise.

My pity goes to anyone still getting worked up about the name.

Actually, it's an abbreviation of the Japanese name "Pocket Monsters." Which, when you think about it makes a great deal of sense. Sorry, couldn't help myself. I a was born in Japan and I grew up on the stuff so...

I'm well aware of that. Regardless, even the term 'pocket monsters' sounds weird, let alone its abbreviation. You also need to apply the localization factor, with American and European audiences being very different from one another, and both being quite different from Japan. It all originates from the gameplay idea of carrying around monsters in your pocket, which is inarguably bizarre.

I was gutted back in the day, while talking to the dude on Cerulean Bridge, that I didn't have the option of joining Team Rocket. I would've whipped them into shape and made it awesome.
I can't be the only one who's dreamt of there being a Pokémon Purple version, with Koffing and Ekans on the box art, and rising through the ranks of grunt to awesomely named epic rank capable of overthrowing Giovanni himself, surely? XD
Okay, maybe that was just me.
