They need to really get rid of them. Not being able to forget them adds insult to injury.
This. If they do anything to the system, let it be forgetting the moves. It's pretty stupid that you can't have them forget, as the HMs never run out, and once you have them, they are in your bag forever. Why should I not be allowed to make a Pokémon forget an HM move?

I'd rather seem them turn all the HM moves into TMs, and let any Pokémon that can learn those moves use them outside of battle as soon as you get the proper gym badge. I hate making space for an HM slave.

Thankfully though, Surf and Waterfall are great water moves (special and normal attack respectively), and Fly is decent enough for battling the AI, so it's not as bad as it could be, but it could easily be better.

Depends. Surf and Fly are really useful for transport and are good enough for battle, so I always keep a Water and Flying-type in my teams. I've even found room for HM's like Strenght and Waterfall in some cases. The weak ones like Rock Smash and Cut that they shove down your throat in some of the games though... *rage*

It's okay! The advances of today's technology allows us to have eight Pokemon rather than six, leavning more space for combat Pokemon!

Ok, while it IS true that the game gets good about 20 hours in, it would be unreasonable to say in the least to expect anyone to play that long to get to the "good part" if they hate it, also, there is no excuse for it taking 20 hours to get good.

For the first 20 hours of my playthrough, all I wanted to do was go to a fucking town, but apparently that is too much to ask in a FREAKING RPG!

It was good by "all games" standards, but bad by "final fantasy" standards
I have a hunch, just a slight hunch, this is in the wrong thread.
well crap, lol, too many tabs open at once, this was supposed to be in the new ZP thread

My only problem with HM's is most of them are so damn situational. Rock samsh, strength, whirpool, etc. You needed waterfall for 1 part in G/S. What a waste.
Actually there were some caves in the Ocean that needed it to as memory recalls. HOWEVER still not enough granting HM worthy.

Still as for people not going where they should, that could be easily solved by an NPC sitting in their way and not letting through for some reason until they beat the Gym or helped out with the monster in the house or w/e. IT would actually make more sense then a COMMONLY TRAVELED ROUTE with a tree in the way NO ONE EVER cut down before.

That or make other moves do the same thing. My pokemon knows slash. So. . . cut is the only thing that get rid of trees. . . well my other pokemon is Machamp. . . how come her can't just lift the damn thing out of the ground??

Bibarral seems to be good at HM slaving. I really don't know what to think about them. They add a little bit to the games but I guess it would be better if they weren't required.

Some HMs shouldnt be HMs. Maybe make thenm TMs like they did flash? at least the you can get rid of it, and buy it back when you go to a pokemart.
I have an HM whore. Its usually the first normal type that I can catch in a game. It never levels, and it cant learn any new moves as its old ones can't be forgotten.

I always have 4 combat Pokemon, one slave pokemon (for all the HM's) and one designed to catch other pokemon.
It's a good team.

HM's have always pissed me off, especially after they made rock smash a HM and went past the Fly Strength and surf, then it just got silly.
However Surf is a decent water move and strength is a good normal move so *shrugs*

Maybe that's because it's a Magikarp....

Some of the HM's (mainly surf and waterfall) are decent attacks but there are way too many of them and most of them you only use once. You either have to spread them evenly about your party and mess up all their move sets or waste one spot on your team for and HM slave. I think that once you get the HM you should be able to use it anywhere.

The rest suck.
Ninja'd but yes these are the only good Hms as they have roughly 90 power with 100% which was far as I remember is the highest power a move can generally have before accuracy starts to suffer.

Except Fly cause I ain't fucking walking.

I find it extremely annoying that you can't unlearn HMs, so you're basically forced to use an HM slave. I never found the whole HM thing to be very well designed anyway. If you want us to have to beat something before progressing, just make the area unlock after that Gym has been beaten. Most of the HMs serve as a kind of key to unlock the rest of the game.

The Pokemon games are well overdue for a re-design at this point. Nothing drastic, but there's a lot of small things that are troublesome in the series.

But it is a water pokemon.
Sorry for double post but edit doesn't send notifactions.

OT: Just because it is a water pokemon doesn't mean it can learn a move. I can't think of any examples at the moment except how can something like a Pichu use strength as to my knowledge it can. There are just some strange things in pokemon world like where do the eggs come from? they have no genitalia unless you go onto certain sites *shudders a little*.
