As a fan of pokemon games (played through all generations, as well as the remakes), i have noticed some minor things over time that just seem odd. This thread is for people to share things they have noticed that seem odd, so please tell your own stories and oddities you've noticed.

I have 2 big ones.

1. Prof. Oak is an ass!- this is something I looked over for a long time, but i realized, doesn't it seem odd that when Oak asks for you and his relative (son? nephew?) to come to the lab for a pokemon, he gives you one first, and when your rival asks what about him all Oak says is "shh! wait your turn!" seems odd that he seems to prefer his neighbor over his own flesh and blood.
2.The old lady who heals you in Emerald: in a cabin in the woods theres an old lady who will heal you, but afterwards insists on healing you again... over and over. Is it me or is it kind of creepy? i get a vibe of her being either a pedo or a witch who wants to eat me (tire me out instead of fatten me up?).

Anyway, please post your own stories!

1. Maybe because Gary Oak is a bastard

2. Rule 34

The thing I find weird is I can fit about 99 of anything in my pockets or bag, but only 6 Pokemon, all of which having the first memory to only retain 4 tricks at once.

cant argue much (rule 34?) but yea, i never noticed that. i can accept the backpack bit just because many non harcore rpgs forget that things have weight and mass, but that is some pretty pathetic memory. Especially since the pokemon in the show could most certainly use more than that (off the top of my head, pikachu could use tackle, quick attack, thunderbolt, volt tackle, and double team.)

Mainly that the regions seem full of people willing to give out random gifts to strangers they've just met (i.e. the player), everyone there either really likes the look of you, or are just really generous or something...

Maybe he realises his grandson is a arrogant dickhead who needs to learn to wait his turn?

Probably just lonely, living in the woods and all :p

A couple of explanations for this behavior that don't involve him being an ass:
- He knows he's supposed to be impartial and doesn't want to treat someone preferentially just because they are family.
- Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think it was pretty well established that the nephew was an annoying little twat and that the protagonist is the good guy, so maybe Oak feels you deserve it more.
- Maybe he does want to help his nephew, and he figures that the best way of doing so is to let you choose first, and then let his nephew choose whatever Pokemon has an advantage over yours.

I don't have anything that I think is strange, other than the fact that they just let little children roam around the world training their pets to fight each other, instead of going to school and staying safe.

Yeah when you look at Pokemon there are alot of things odd about it.

Another thing that I've noticed in that most of the games the starting town only ever has about 3 buildings; you family's, someone else's (the Professor's family's or your rivals'), and the Professor's lab. But there's always some random people walking around. And one's always fat. WHERE DO THESE PEOPLE COME FROM?

I always found it a bit strange in Pokemon and other RPG games that everyone seems to be completely fine with a total stranger just walking into their house at any time of day and having a good old look around their possessions and bedrooms then sometimes giving them stuff free.

If some stranger just strolled into my house and went round my things I wouldn't be like "Oh hello stranger please have this" I'd be like "Who the fuck are you? I'm calling the police! GET THE HELL OUT!"

I've always found it odd how willing the people of the Poke'verse are to just give away expensive electronics, like the itemfinder, or the vs. seeker, or the teachy tv. I think one of the most laughable examples was just recently in Pokemon White in Striaton City (I think) where a roughneck (the bald guy in a leather jacket) is standing around in an alleyway, and when you talk to him, instead of trying to mug you (as I would expect someone of his appearance and location to do) he gives you a dark ball, and tells you how they work. That was...hilariously incongruous.

Why do the legendaries leave after defeat or victory? I mean you can claim they they want to escape now that someone knows where they are, but they are the freaking legnedaries damn it! They have destroyed moutains, caused ice ages, and rose the continents up! What do they have to fear from a ten year old child?

If you think about it, the rival always chooses the one starter your starter is weak to so it's actually him who has the benefit. Obviously Oak figured all this and pretended to be nice to you while simultaneously stabbing you in the back.

There is a church in pokemon Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum

They never say who they are worshiping

EDIT:
Although I'd say they are worshipping Arceus, I can't be certain.

For all we know they could be worshipping Dialga or Palkia
or be Satanists and worship Giratina (All of them are deitys)

I always found it odd that Prof. Oak always aksed you what his nephew/son's name was.

yup, my theory is that the movies/tv show and the games exist in seperate dimensions.

As for Dreiko's comment, never thought of it that way. Just proves my "Oaks an ass" idea though =P

Since Pokemon replace actual animals in the poke-verse. Do people eat them?

Has a Pokemon trainer ever been stranded somewhere and figured that his Pidgey would be pretty goddamn tasty if it was roasted over an open fire?
Does Manky taste more like pig or like monkey?
Do larger, predatory Pokemon hunt smaller ones?

Do the gym leaders always stay in their gyms?

Why are there only like 2 actual homes in any town you visit?

I always considered Professor Oak to be an asshole to the protagonist. I mean, he lets his grandson have the better Pokemon. And he came when we beat the Elite Four. Clearly, he's a pedophile.

As for the old lady in Emerald, I always wondered about that. I guess the protagonist needs to get laid sometime.

There's a school in each pokemon game that has little kids in it, but you never see a high school or a college.

Yeah I thought that was rather strange too.
