So in other words, you find two of the last 200+ pokemon un-creative, therefore they are out of ideas.

There have always been "everyday object with face" pokemon. There will be more in future generations. Get over it.

Trubbish is fantastic, I don't know what you're talking about. Garbodor was sorta shitty, but it was cool that he had cigarette butts for fingers.

I haven't played the new one yet, but the few pokemon I've seen look fairly awesome. The master fighter panda dude looks badass as hell.

Trubbish/Garbodor are great designs...
Do you want your poison types to be beautiful pieces of gothic art, or what?
And stunfisk is great too. It makes sense contextually, however 'ugly' or weak it may be.
People have been saying GF has been running out of ideas since gen 1, and they're not, really.

I'll give you the ice cream pokemon, though...

They started recycling idea on generation 3 already, which is why I stopped after generation 2. 251 were enough.

Yeah you're right. I mean, look at all the creative Gen 1 pokemon!

Fuck me it's a seal! You know what it's called? Seel. Shit man that creativity.

Whoa calm down yo it's a fucking bird! Shit's mad.

OH HOLY SHITTER IT'S ANOTHER BIIIIIIRD

Oh man eggs! Can you believe that? EGGS. EGGS I SAY.

OH AND THEY'VE GOT A SNAKE TOO

Yeah no.
Each generation does have the shitty filler yeah, but there's usually a decent bunch that look cool and original. If anything the garbage bag pokemon and the keychains should be praised for making something that seems even feasibly alive from random inanimate objects rather than "let's get a real animal and add a colour/horn/set of wings!

Yeah. I mean, don't even get me started with Pokemon like Mr. Mime. I mean COME ON! A blasted Mime? Really Gamefreak? Is that all you can do?

Don't even get me started on fucking Bedrill. A 2 year old can come up with that.

Seriously though. It wouldn't surprise me in the least in an alternate universe where generation 5 Pokemon were first gen and vice versa we would all be complaining about how the designs are still shit.

Well, I suppose if we ignore the older generations not-really-creative designs (like Muk, the pile of sludge. Or Squirtle, the blue turtle. Or Seel, the Seal) and we totally ignore all of the good designs of the new generations and act with complete bias against them, yeah, I might be able to see where you're coming from.

However, if we look at it while pretending to be giving it an even remotely fair chance, no.

Every generation has had good and bad designs.

Plus, current-gen has Espurr.

Hating on Klefki? Hating on the adorable little bastard who steals keys and has some of the best flavour of... well any pokémon?

Fun facts: Klefki fiercely jingles it's keys at attackers to scare them off. It has the prankster ability, which espouses the behavior of key theft and also gives the fairy/steel type a useful niche in the competitive game. Sometimes trainers give keys to Klefki for safe keeping. It is one of the most well designed Pokémon ever and shows how the new fairy typing can be useful defensively.

Ok, Klefki rant over. It's all subjective. The designs certainly aren't getting worse as has been pointed out by plenty of people.

Trubbish: Seriously? A pokemon based on garbage? That's really, really bad imo if Trubbish wasn't a sign of how many ideas they were running out, I don't know what is.
Grimer: Liquid waste
Koffing : Gaseous waste
Trubbish : Solid waste

Klefki: A key chain like Pokemon, uhh what?
As opposed to voltorb, the ball pokemon, right?
At least klefki is a fairy that steals people's keys and thus, gets prankster as an ability. Makes sense, quite imaginative. Voltorb is an exploding ball that is somehow soundproof... And they even made him look like a pokeball... Because designing is hard....
If I remember right it was to trick the player into collecting it, thinking it was a power up or pokeball someone left in a cave for reasons.

Then it explodes in your face, like a D&D Mimic but with explosives instead of teeth.

When people talk about Pokemon running out of ideas, all they can ever point to is the garbage bag Pokemon, the ice cream Pokemon and the keychain Pokemon. To which I would reply "...and?" That's 3 silly designs out of 700, I wouldn't call that running out of ideas. Plus, how is making Pokemon based off inanimate objects worse now than it was twenty years ago? Can you imagine if Voltorb or Eggxecute had been released this gen? A Poke-ball Pokemon and a cluster of eggs? Talk about shark-jumping.

Besides, the generation that gave us garbage bag and ice cream pokemon also gave us badass desert alligator Pokemon, clay golem Pokemon, samurai otter Pokemon and the awesomeness that is whatever Sigilyph is. The generation that bought us keychain Pokemon also bought us living sword Pokemon, luchador eagle Pokemon, ninja frog Pokemon and a friggin T-rex! Pokemon designs aren't getting worse, they're getting better.

Espurr is what happens when the ABYSS turns away out of fear.

OT:But yeah bad/uninspired designs are almost as much as a staple of the Pokemon series as Pikachu is. There will always be a handful of boring/lame/stupid designs but we won't care. Because sometimes they can be really good game play wise, like for example Electrode. It was the fastest Pokemon hands down for a while, and it was just a flipped version of Voltorb.

And if they aren't good, well, ignore them for the better designed Pokemon.

Trupish is a play on pollution in america, since Black and White is based off America. That's why I find him acceptable.

I will give you the keychain and add the Chandelier to the list of bad ides. But overall the designs are really good minus two or three pokemon. 6th gen has the coolest fossil pokemon ever, 5th has the coolest dragons, and 4th has... some cool legendaries.
4th also has Pokemon like Lucario, Infernape, Empoleon(My second favorite starter), Garchomp, Staraptor, Luxray, Torterra and Weavile.

I know not all pokemon designs have to be based on sometype of animal..but a garbage bag and a key chain as pokemon? Seriously Nintendo you can do better.

This is just my 00.02

Edit: And this is not about every design just a few specific ones that look awkward.
Pikachu is just an electric mouse right? Even the name - 'Pika', meaning very small animal and 'chu', the noise Japanese say a mouse makes, are derived from fairly basic and obvious links. The same goes with all Pokemon. I don't see how the quality is dropping. It's the same as it ever was. And that's not good nor bad. For example, Diglett.

Rather than selectively choose examples of current ones you don't like can you give some examples of what a good Pokemon should aspire to be like so we can really understand your argument here?

Actually, "Pika" comes from "Pikapika", the Japanese onomatopoeia for "sparking" (or "sparkling") like from a shorted power point.

Sorry, but when someone's whole argument falls back on "an ice cream cone, bag of trash, and now keys" as proof that Pokemon designs suck now, is when your argument falls apart. I've done experiments on people who at first say "good Pokemon died with the first 151" by showing them Pokemon from later gens. They say they look alright or even cool, and then I say it's the fifth gen you seem to hate so much, and they can't argue, because they realize they didn't do their Poke-homework.

Plus, the much maligned fifth gen is my favorite now in terms of the Pokemon, so when you say "new gens suck because ice cream! lol" you offend me sir! Also, the sixth gen has proven to be excellent, a key chain Pokemon won't ruin any of the amazing designs, unless you are overly petty. Though petty describes the garden variety "genwunner" very well.

Am I the only one who finds poor Stunfisk awesome?
I like Stunfisk for what it is, it's got good typing, and it's design isn't even bad. It is a bit unattractive and it's call sounds kinda gross. Despite all of that, it's not a bad Pokemon by far.
