So I'm guessing most people here have heard Yahtzee's opinion on Pokemon, but what about everybody else?
What are your likes/dislikes about the Pokemon fanchise?
I enjoy the games for a few primary reasons;
1) I've always preferred games that aren't grounded to our own universe, as it gives that chance to explore something new and sometimes completely different to what you already know. Games like Mass Effect can nail this point rather well, giving you an entire galaxy to explore (somewhat).
2) The franchise may not have moved much since, but that's not essentially a bad thing. And yet, it also manages to bring something else new to the table every generation; Gen 2 had colour, animated sprites, as well as introducing new types of pokemon (dark & steel). Gen 3 had full colour, introduced double battles (still my favourite kind of battles)... I could go on, but the bottom lines is, it tends to find that little spot between not a lot of change (Total War?), and too much change (Command & Conquer 4).
3)The series might not seem very challenging, but the games offer plenty of opportunities for the player make the challenge him/herself; a good early example is the 1st gym in Black & White, which always get the type advantage over your starter type, but there's a girl that will gladly give away a Pokemon to counter the gym. The challenge? Don't take it, use only your starter against the gym (a little easier than it sounds). Another good example is the infamous 'Nuzlocke Challenge' (look it up if you don't know it).
4) THE MUSIC. Whether it be travelling tunes or battle themes, there's always something that I'll like in the Poke-playlist, even N (the green-haired Zealot) and your 'rivals' (Charen & Bianca) have cool battle themes. ...at least in my view.
