Why is everyone being so hateful of this? I find it hilarious! Typical Christian bullshit of giving so much shit to people but not being able to take it themselves. Keep at it OP no one ever got ahead in life without treading on a few toes.

Also the amount of hate on this site for christianity why would you only get angry at this? I smell obvious point scoring.
Why does this rub many Escapists the wrong way?

Because the Escapist aims to create a specific environment in the community; overt hostility and insults are not welcome, and anyone wanting to post satire must tread lightly.

Its not like we don't realize this is meant to be a joke, its that an insensitive satire like this tends to beget people who actually take the subject seriously, on either side of the issue.

In this case, it has brought you here to post a sincere anti-Christian message which proves that the OP has failed to make it clear that this just a joke.

That being said, this pokemon "challenge" seems to exist only as a joke; other than some inconveniences like raising eggs and arbitrary type limits, this seems like just a no-evolution run. Perhaps a greater limit of pokemon types (Zubat, cloven-hoofed 'mons, etc) and poaching something from the nuzlocke rules?

Heh, "Protestant Edition"
I see what you did there. You're not bagging on Christianity; rather, you're bagging on the Vatican. For good reason--they're not exactly the most ethical organization.

FYI: I'm a Protestant.

Because it assumes that all Christians subscribe to one set of thoughts and are incapable of rational thought. There are Christians who agree with evolution, Who dont believe in ghosts, ect and to poke fun at a group of people based on their faith and the the incorrect assumption that those within that community of which hold ignorant views embody the entirety of the faiths views. Basically this is no less offensive than the old stereotypes such as all black people love chicken or all Jewish people are all greedy that are commonly understood to be offensive.
I direct you to the factually accurate, politically sensitive, optional picture:

Don't forget, you can't use healing centers either...because only Christ can heal you.

Also:
No reviving 'dead' Pokemon - only Jebus is allowed to come back from the dead.

;)

That was an amusing read.

I love how easily offended some people on this forum get aswell.

It's like they have never been out in the world and get offended everytime someone says something slightly mocking in their general direction.

Get a grip people you make yourselves look foolish.

This is insensitive, even with your "a christian helped me make it" bit its obviously insulting. Also the idea that all Christian's disagree with evolution is false.
Yeah, maybe personally, but bible stands for what it stands. It is also false to think that all atheist hate religion, but what can you do.

I am sue that he doesn't personally try to attempt to attack people of the religion with that, I am sure he means it for all fun (as he mentioned) and jokes. He made fun of the religion, not the people in it :)

And beside, I think christian's could take this as a joke, since all the bashing they give us we take as a joke. We would be even.

Also welcome to world, people don't care...

On topic: That does seem fun. Could try, but I wonder is it possible to beat the game like that?

It is amusing right. They say stuff against us, but beware if you say anything back to them. I think the topic's title could been different, this might have caught the eye of the wrong people, in the wrong way.

They think they are so perfect, it is almost cute isn't it. Such a childish attitude. I am not saying offending just for the sake of offending is ok. What I am saying is: We can talk about it as we want and you ain't stopping us.

So yeah, Another stab at theism, and specifically christianity. Why am I not surprised. So I am just wondering why is it that we have to refrain from attacks based on various criteria such as race, sex, orientation, etc, but seemingly attacks on theists, and specifically Christianity are basically encouraged, especially when you have Contributors who like to use their contributions as a platform to stab at religion.

Oh come now, you're hardly the only group to have a stereotype. That said, the double standard on religious jokes as opposed to racist or sexist jokes is a tad uncomfortable, but there are some seriously messed up histories behind the latter two things. Christians haven't been oppressed since, what, the third century AD?

Besides which, this is a lighthearted joke; hardly an attack on your faith, nor the faithful. To say that this generalises Christians is to say that Crocodile Dundee generalised Australians. It did, and the stereotype is mildly annoying, but, well, what I'm saying is that it's not meant to be harmful or offensive, so get over it.

As if you've never told a joke that's offended someone. If someone had been seriously offended by said joke, would you have thought them rational, or tried to explain that it was simply that; a joke?

Yes I understand why this offends people but why this particular thread? I have seen many and lurked many religious threads and its usually never this bad. the only thread that is ever worse than religious threads is circumcision threads *shudder*

Heh, funny.

Also great video from Steve Hughes, so right.

That being said, if you want to avoid offending you may want to call it "The Creationist's Playthrough". But that's optional as far as I'm concerned, I don't see this as abusive in any way or form, which is a different matter.

Look you guys, someone's taking a stab at Christianity... How edgy.

Now let's see you create a "Muslim Playthrough" list, if you dare.

The Atheist Playthrough:

"There's no reason why Pokemon should exist, therefore they don't."]
Make that only legandary pokemon and we've got something.

Further rules for the Atheist/Purely scientific Playthrough:
- Every mention of a higher power should be laughed at
- Ghost type pokemon don't exist. They are clearly just the imaginations of crazy people.
- Psychic pokemon are a fraud
- Treating pokemon well is overrated. Survival of the fittest, baby!
- Most importantly: Evolutions have to take a few billions of years.

There are radical, narrow-minded people on both sides (actually, on every side, there are more than just two). Sometimes it's fun to laugh at them.

Speaking as a Christian (and a Protestant at that), this is in bad taste. Even if you do mean for it to be tongue-in-cheek, it still comes across as mean-spirited and trying to paint Christians as ignorant and closed-minded. The "avoid science labs at all possible" rule feels particularly insulting.
Truth hurts, donnit?

I'm confused why people think that Catholicism considers the Theory of Evolution anathema. In 1996 the Vatican officially recognized biological evolution as true [http://www.independent.co.uk/news/vaticans-slow-evolution-as-it-discovers-darwin-1359958.html], which means of course that Catholics accept the Theory of Evolution.

Look I can take a joke, and personally I am not offended, because this doesnt offend my sensibilities at all. But no the second modification does not really change much of anything. Its basically sort of like calling someone an asshole to their face and then saying "JUST KIDDING"

Keep in mind, If this was just a random joke, yes it would be mostly harmless. However the problem is a cumulative effect when we see torrents of Atheists who like to rail, not on religion, but on Christianity and for some reason it is tolerated here.

The joke looses context when released into that sort of environment and moves from an attempt at levity to being basically mean spirited.

Bobbity said:
Except its not wise to assume things. Much like coming to the defense of the Christians who are offended, does not even make me a Christan in the first place. So using language such as "your group" or "your beliefs" does a lot to invalidate your argument because your participating in the perpetuation of negative stereotypes.

Invariably my point of posting more often than not is to run counter to whatever the pulse of a thread may be. I have played devils advocate on MANY topics and this is a case that is no different.

Again as I said above, the Joke might have tried to be more light hearted, but its really not. If you made a similar joke pertaining to homosexuals, and portrayed all homosexuals as the "sex in the city" flamboyant homosexuals it is virtually guaranteed to incur mod wrath. It simply would not be tolerated and would almost be viewed as Hate speech. That is the very definition of a double standard.

TL;DR
Now I have spoken my piece on the matter. Its understandable someone would find this offensive, however that is more to that effect because it is just another example of tolerated hate toward Christianity much more than it is the joke is insanely offensive, because it is at worst only barely mildly offensive.
