Wartorle. Never liked Blastoise. Wartortle was way cooler.

I actually lack cool pictures of Wartortle :p

Also Oshawott! It's way to adorable to evolve <3

Samurai~!

Also Whimsicott. Though its more useful then Wartortle and Oshawott, people don't like using it much, I assume, due to its grass-type. But the Prankster ability makes it so awesome.

It's so fluffy <3

Hmm. The only thing I have that vaguely qualifies on this list is Emolga.

Maybe the Unown I got into the 80s for my own vague amusement. Can't remember which letter it was though

I recently decided it'd be interesting to play Pokemon Red with ONLY poison pokemon both as a challenge and to experience pokemon that I'd never otherwise use.

My team: Venosaur, Gengar, Venomoth, Tentacruel, Golbat, Nidoking

Sabrina will either be the ultimate roadblock or the grandest victory.

Sabrina will be a pain for you I think. But other than that you have a pretty bad-ass team going there, in my opinion at-least. ^^

Training an Arcanine right now. Don't see them too often.
I have one at the moment! Love him.

My first team on Red was Venusaur, Ratticate, Nidoking, Omastar, Pidgeotto and Butterfree.

Sunflora is the only slighlty unusual one I can think of, a lot of the pokemon people have listed have been very generic that a lot of people use (shuckle?? Might as well say charmander, similarly for Arcanine).

I think OP is looking for cherim trainers and pokemon along those lines.

Bulbasaur

because everyone and their brother mother and grandmother wanted a Charmander

This it seems is a big fat IMO

Great idea! Gengar ftw.

As far as I know, I don't see very many people use Clefairy/Clefable. I dismissed it before, but when I actually added it to my party, I was surprised at how strong it was. Not to mention it can learn several different kinds of moves through TM's. Including a bunch that aren't part of it's type, like Psychic and Ice Beam. I also found Spearow to be quite useful as well. The little bird becomes really fast as he evolved and leveled up.

Both Pokemon served as valuable members of my team on my last playthrough of Red. And I'm glad I kept them with me when I caught them.

All the pokemon I train, no one else trains. I don't share my game carts, or trade across to other people.

Oh, I love Whimsicott! Deceptively cute, as it is a totally badass vampiric Pokemon.

Also, in Generation I, I used to play through the game with a team of Jigglypuff, Clefairy and Chansey. I had some kind of fixation on Jigglypuffs.

I trained a Feebas to level 60 trying to get a Milotic, not realising you had to max its beauty stat to do so.
Now, ironically, I can't even do that as my Sapphire has suffered the clock glitch so I can't grow berries to improve any of its attributes.

Heh I played a game of silver where my wild card was a souped up Jigglypuff - she made everyone her ***** after I taught her all 3 'punches'. The ghost gym leader was particularly entertaining. Sigh, silver was the best game...

I had one last time I played Platinum :) Sadly, it was too much of a one-trick pony to be of any real use... :(

Every time I run through a game, I've always got at least one pokemon that's not so common. My playthrough on Heart Gold had Psychic-wielding Butterfree (nothing like as awesome as the one I had way back in Yellow, sadly), my first playthrough of Pearl I had a Misdreavus (love that pokemon) covering a load of bases by way of type coverage. I remember running a playthrough of Silver with a Beedrill.

Seemingly I have a thing for Ghost and Bug types...

Venusaur.
When I was younger, none of my friends EVER used him, they were obsessed with Charizard.
Sure, Charizard has the type advantage in a battle, but how he is gonna use flamethrower while he's asleep?
Sleeping Powder + Leech Seed = Win.
